To think this is an abomination of a roast dinner!

Friend asked if I wanted to stay for her "famous roast dinner" as she'd cooked plenty.

Now I fucking love a roast dinner so was thrilled...it was Steamed chicken, peas, cheesy spinach, cauli, Yorkshire, stuffing and rice all covered in gravy and cheese with a big dollop of mayo.

Rice...in a roast...with gravy on

I love her dearly but AIBU to think she's fucking insane HmmGrin

It's the least you can do.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 28/06/2017 15:40

Oh. My. God...that sounds lovely (apart from the mayo) and I could eat that right now! Extra points for the Yorkshire puds too. Where does she live? Would she like a new friend? Wink

She also puts grated cheddar on a curry
Ooh, I'm going to try that next time I have curry! Grin

squishysquirmy · 28/06/2017 15:45

Its two completely different meals smushed up together on one plate. Each of these meals would be rather nice on its own, but neither is a roast!

Mumtobe12 · 28/06/2017 16:08

This is wrong and upsets me greatly x

dailydance · 28/06/2017 16:09

I d

dailydance · 28/06/2017 16:10

Oops!

I didn't even know one could steam a chicken Shock

Redsippycup · 28/06/2017 16:16

Cancel the fucking cheque

Clalpolly · 28/06/2017 16:16

Now "infamous " roast dinner. How did she make the gravy without roasting anything?

Edna1969 · 28/06/2017 16:17

Cheese and curry can be OK if its Paneer...Cheddar or anything strong sounds horrible and no I'm not going to try it.

As for this "roast" dinner I think your friend is in serious need of help in the kitchen. Lessons at the least so this abomination isn't repeated. Its not as if its any healthier than a proper roast with cheese and mayo pushing the fat, salt and calorie count!

Inertia · 28/06/2017 17:04

That sounds like a plateful of random leftovers. It isn't a roast dinner, it's freezer surprise.

Pastamancer · 28/06/2017 17:13

You need to invite her round and cook her a proper roast

Gingersdohavesouls · 28/06/2017 17:27

Me and my GF get in this argument a LOT as we have a Roast Dinner company that delivers a fresh roast dinner to people in their homes every Sunday, and we've had people messaging us saying "It's not a roast dinner if there is no cabbage/parsnips/horseradish" etc.

I agree that my idea of a roast would NEVER include rice but it's an individual taste... although I personally wouldn't call that a roast dinner bcoz nothing is roasted lol

olbndansmummy · 28/06/2017 17:38

Maybe invite her to yours and show her what a roast SHOULD be, as in ROAST chicken, potatoes and NO rice!

Sittinginthesun · 28/06/2017 17:38

We went to visit our extremely thin and health aware friends for Sunday lunch. They served a skinless chicken, which was steamed in a bag in the oven. We each had a potato, a carrot and a handful of peas.

We fed the dcs chips on the way home.

I actually like the sound of your friend's dinner, but it is not a roast.

Cary2012 · 28/06/2017 17:44

OP, I feel your pain.

But am intrigued by steamed chicken. Was it a whole chicken? How do you steam it and how long for? Was it all pale and floppy?

I love the smell of a roast sizzling away in the oven...did the other guests think it was great?

ChrisPrattsFace · 28/06/2017 17:49

MY DPs gran used to but super noodles on the side of his roast dinner.
I still don't understand this... neither does he Grin

Gingersdohavesouls · 28/06/2017 18:10

ChrisPrattsFace - that made me 😂😂😂

klondikecookie · 28/06/2017 18:20

The best roast I ever had was served with wild rice (with onion and mushrooms).

awesomeness · 28/06/2017 18:31

Was she needing to use stuff up in the cupboards? Confused.......

Roversandrhodes · 28/06/2017 18:35

Bork!
So many issues with this so called Sunday roast

Albatross26 · 28/06/2017 18:56

Imagining the horrible swirling consistency of gravy mixed with mayo...vom

GeekyWombat · 28/06/2017 18:58

Cheese? Chuffing cheese? Sorry. You lost me there.

canonlydoblue · 28/06/2017 19:01

That meal sounds horrendous BUT.....I grew up not knowing that roasts didn't automatically come with rice! My parents are from South Africa and apparently everyone there eats a roast with rice. Honesty don't knock it until you've tried it. Rice, roasties and gravy is prob my fave combo!!

Groovee · 28/06/2017 19:04

Steamed chicken ain't a roast!

Groovee · 28/06/2017 19:05

I would have left at being deprived of roast potatoes too
