Friend asked if I wanted to stay for her "famous roast dinner" as she'd cooked plenty.

Now I fucking love a roast dinner so was thrilled...it was Steamed chicken, peas, cheesy spinach, cauli, Yorkshire, stuffing and rice all covered in gravy and cheese with a big dollop of mayo.

Rice...in a roast...with gravy on

I love her dearly but AIBU to think she's fucking insane HmmGrin

Me and my friends have had a few roast dinner get togethers, but we hired someone in to do it. Would have been too weird for one of us to do it on mass for everyone.

Not sure this has really been the weather for roasts though!!

loaferloveforyou · 27/06/2017 19:11

Where the fuck are the roast potatoes.

Does she hate you?

AdaColeman · 27/06/2017 19:13

Yorkshire pudding served with chicken???!!!! She should be keel hauled for that alone. Grin

LucyFuckingPevensie · 27/06/2017 19:18

No, no, no. Yoorkshires go with everything.
Fuck tradition.

viques · 27/06/2017 19:20

At least there were yorkshires Envy I love yorkshires.

SmashingInAthleticWear · 27/06/2017 19:23

Now I wouldn't personally object to the cheese or mayo but STEAMED CHICKEN and RICE? Isn't that what you feed pets when they're ill? WTAF.

SmashingInAthleticWear · 27/06/2017 19:24

Do you think she forgot to buy potatoes and was too ashamed to admit it?

TizzyDongue · 27/06/2017 19:24

That sounds, erm, interesting.

Maybe it was two dinners that fell onto one plate by accident?

Maybe were you live 'the dog's bollocks' means like actual dog's bollocks and 'famous' means gossipsed about, and you just didn't realise these colloqilisms?

ShelaghTurner · 27/06/2017 19:25

Urban dictionary knows what a toast is FFS.

To think this is an abomination of a roast dinner!
SuburbanCrofter · 27/06/2017 19:27

I'm trying to picture all those things together on a plate but my brain just won't go there.

TizzyDongue · 27/06/2017 19:29

Two dinners see:

A (kinda) salad (sort of)
Steamed chicken, rice and cheese with a big dollop of mayo.

Veggie (style) roast (ish)
Peas, cheesy spinach, cauli, Yorkshire, stuffing all covered in gravy

GherkinSnatch · 27/06/2017 19:30

MAYO?!!?

Purplepicnic · 27/06/2017 19:31

I think I would cry if someone promised me a roast and then gave me that abomination.

FucksSakeSusan · 27/06/2017 19:36

WHAT
THE
ACTUAL
FUCK

BarbaraofSeville · 27/06/2017 19:36

I was that knocked over by the mention of rice that I didn't even notice the lack of potatoes.

WTF?

She likes her cheese though, respect for that, although I never let it go near a roast dinner.

BIL has gherkins on his it's the only veg he'll eat.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 27/06/2017 19:37

Steamed chicken? Why's she calling it a roast when she's not actually roasting anything.

I'm not even going to start on putting rice and mayo on the same plate as gravy. I love a roast dinner and if she'd handed that to me I might have cried...

thatorchidmoment · 27/06/2017 19:37

YABU for not putting a trigger warning on your thread title.

I'm finding the notion of steamed chicken being passed off as 'a roast' deeply upsetting.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/06/2017 19:38

These replies made me so happy Grin

I'm answer to an above question...i spotted some new potatoes in the fridge...even if she didn't have any potatoes for toasties then surely some of them (roasted or even boiled) would be your go to?!?

I love how offended people are to various parts of the meal 😂😂

OP posts:
TalkingintheDark · 27/06/2017 19:38

I'm upset just reading about it.

Me too, Forever.

YANBU, IHope; abomination is the only word for it.

Did you actually eat any of it?

BarbaraofSeville · 27/06/2017 19:38

How does one steam a chicken and what is the reason for doing this?

Is there a shortage of ovens and potatoes in your neck of the woods and she's doing her best with what's available?

bubblesbubbles · 27/06/2017 19:41

Mayo and gravy? Envy i find that more offensive then the rice! I think she hates you and this is her creative way of ending the friendship! Grin

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/06/2017 19:41

Cheese has no place in a roast dinner. Let alone rice or mayo. But cheese is the worst.

TheLiltingLies · 27/06/2017 19:41

I was so upset at steamed chicken that I didn't see the rice at first. OP, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Get ye to a kitchen for a proper roast asap.
Has she not had a proper roast? How can she think that is a roast!

Tazerface · 27/06/2017 19:43

I'm not one for hyperbole normally, but I would be horrified (MN TM) if i was promised a roast and served up that!

The combo is just about palatable but the inclusion of mayo is making me feel bilious. And I like mayo!

ItsNachoCheese · 27/06/2017 19:44

What the actual fuck is your friend on?! steamed chicken who the fuck actually steams chicken for a roast dinner? Confused
