The Beckhams... again

I would have expected the Beckhams to have learnt their lesson about using charitable causes for shameless self-promotion after the leaked UNICEF emails earlier in the year, but evidently nothing has changed

I was sickened to see young 'photographer' Brooklyn Beckham using the Grenfell catastrophe to promote his new book. These people are quite literally shameless

I don't think it matters Momma.

Nettletheelf · 27/06/2017 18:31

I wonder who the two photos that were sold by the auction house for 'big money' were bought by?

Who can it be? Who??

Perfectly1mperfect · 27/06/2017 18:32

The people affected by Grenfell will get more money/help. That's all that matters really.

waitforitfdear · 27/06/2017 18:39

working hand to mouth on a whelk store

Yes that's what working class cockneys people do when they arnt dressing as pearly kings! Jes snobbery.

momma clearly it still does amongst some on mumsnet and nina I was correcting a typo did you miss it while you were stalking the academic acheivments of another teenage boy or were you too busy gazing in awe at your own GCSE certificate.

waitforitfdear · 27/06/2017 18:41

Fuck me they really can't do right can they. A marriage that's had ups and downs and still survived. 4 kids who seem stable and happy and helping with a charity.

Utter utter bastards

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 18:47

Yes that's what working class cockneys people do when they arnt dressing as pearly kings! Jes snobbery

But you're the one who just can't admit she had a perfectly lovely middle class childhood. Let go of the inverted snobbery. You'll feel the better for it!

TizzyDongue · 27/06/2017 19:17

Is not pretending he's in anyway a decent photographer akin to wishing he was a drug addled teenage mess?

So he's raising a bit of money for people who have lost everything. Whether it is for selfish reasons or not fact is it's still money in the pot.

He's raising the money by displaying (and selling?) his photographs. Which is nice of him.

As a consequence of this expedition he'll get exposure for his book (which is not profiting the charity it seems). Not sure it'll help his career though, because the pictures are rubbish, but if it does it'll just look a farce as it's now very obvious he's been selected because of his name and not for talent.

ssd · 27/06/2017 19:39

I think it's pretty bad he's getting slagged here for not knowing what he wants to do at 18 and trying lots of things, this is no different to any other 18 yr old I know.

I don't like the fact the Beckhams have sort of pushed their kids into the limelight, although they seem a very close family, which is always nice to see.

I can remember reading on here an article from a top magazine, harper's or vogue or something, about Brooklyn when he turned 16...it was utterly cringeworthy and a bit creepy, the writer was going on about him being legal now.....yuck....it was really drooling and embarrassing, like he was a demi god and utterly gorgeous, when he's an ordinary looking youngster... if someone had written it about my boy I'd have honestly went for them, but I read that VB sort of encouraged it...that must be have a lie, surely.....

mind you, it must be hard if you cant answer back.

waitforitfdear · 27/06/2017 19:45

Na scrump I am fine thanks just happy for them and don't need to bitch. Try it you will feel better for it.

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 19:46

ssd My DD is 18 and she is at uni and knows exactly what she is going to do with her life, as do most of her friends. They all went off to uni after sixth form and are all studying hard and working hard to support themselves.

I expect if your mum and dad are that wealthy then having to work for your money is not really a top priority in life and therefore he can faff about doing various 'things' which he's not very good at and doing 'charity stuff' in the limelight in an effort to be something.

Michelle and Obama's daughter seems to manage being very, very famous with studying and working. As do plenty of other very rich people's children.

I do think the Beckhams have brought their children up in the limelight to be a brand and it's going to backfire spectacularly. So far they have an aspiring photographer, an aspiring model and an aspiring singer. I have no doubts the youngest will be an aspiring model/designer.

Today 18:31 Nettletheelf

I wonder who the two photos that were sold by the auction house for 'big money' were bought by?

It's totally baffling.

waitforitfdear

Erm...it's achievements.

Lymmmummy · 27/06/2017 20:58

I get your point - potentially the family PR machine trying to spin it get some publicity for the book and hope to shift more of them to build the brand value - therefore hoping the next project he does is better received and therefore generates more money - totally get it - of course he is a very wealthy young man as his parents are and he and his parents could have led the way by making a significant public donation etc

However equally I suppose itcall helps and it's not doing any real harm

ssd · 27/06/2017 20:59

mycatsapirate, what a load of shite. My ds is at uni and supporting himself blah blah blah as are most of his friends and most of them have not got too much of a clue what to do after uni...they know what they'd like to do but they realise reality doesn't always work that way... your smug take on it all is pretty nauseating.

BuzzKillington · 27/06/2017 21:01

My ds is 19 and at uni and has no flipping clue what he wants to do. He's having a great time though.

nina2b · 27/06/2017 21:04

Yep, that's what university is for: enjoying education for its own sake and having fun in the process.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/06/2017 21:27

As someone else said, it's the fact the parents allow their kids to be part of the "brand", which is just unfathomable to me.

Their 10 year old, had a single out at Xmas, "he's a talented singer" apparently. He has the same manager as JUstin Beaber, but they tried to dress it up as a "a little charity project".Hmm He was on the radio, all over Twitter etc. The single was absolutely dreadful and only sold about 3 copies. Why put a 10 year old through that?

They are doing the same with Brooklyn. His photographs are very, very bad, anyone can see that. Why not make him just go to uni, and grow up in private. It's bloody cruel to let your DC grow up in the spotlight.

TheAntiBoop · 27/06/2017 21:43

Before they had Harper I don't remember ever seeing the kids. I wonder why that changed.

brooklyn goes to a very good arts school where there are some truly talented kids in various arts - I should imagine he is getting very good teaching on photography. I wonder if any of his teachers gave him any guidance on the book.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 27/06/2017 22:09

I doubt he's getting help from his teachers if the photos are anything to go by.

I've been to A level photography "exhibitions" and I haven't seen a single photo as bad as Brooklyn's elephant photo.

It's embarrassing for him and someone ought to stop it all becoming public. He's going to get the piss taken out if him.

MommaGee · 27/06/2017 22:20

"Brooklyn when he turned 16...it was utterly cringeworthy and a bit creepy, the writer was going on about him being legal now.....yuck..." Tbf I remember the same with Charlotte Church, nothing changes, just the subject of the creepiness. Its bloody disgusting.

MycatsaPirate

ssd My DD is 18 and she is at uni and knows exactly what she is going to do with her life
goody for her. Firstly she's a year older than him then as he's just finished a-levels and is hoping to go to Uni September. Secondly my nephew signed up to join the army at 16 so he knew what he wanted to do with his life 2 years earlier than your daughter. Do i win teenage top trumps?

southeastdweller · 27/06/2017 22:25

This smells like yet another opportunity for the Beckham's to boost their (flagging) brand. The book was already delayed (supposed to have come out in April), perhaps to let the dust settle after David's email P.R gaff. I'm thinking not enough pre-sales had been ordered prior to yesterday's Grenfell announcement by B.B.

JunefromAccounts · 27/06/2017 22:27

Brooklyn's exhibition is being held at Christies Shock.

Here's the proud parents and grandad arriving

MyCats

You are sure it will backfire spectaculaly wow well let's hope you don't get your wish as they are real people you know just like you and your kids. Sad

My youngest twins are 18 and off to uni this year.

If I thought they really knew what they wanted from life and had it all sorted I would be worried.

Dh and I are 50 and we have recently totally changed our life styles and business. We may change again we are young (Ish) Grin

Ffs you know squat at 18 and if you think your kid does well wow just wow
