To think it's not normal for an 18 year old to play video games on their day off? Mine doesn't move!

I'm an almost 40yr old woman and I'll happily play PS4 /pc games all day Hmm Totally normal for an 18yr old!

palmfronds · 19/04/2018 17:00

^^ what Dobby said!

I have never joined a guild but if there was a Mumsnet one I'd be on it like a flash... Someone please do it!

Lethaldrizzle · 19/04/2018 17:01

It's not very healthy though is it. I wouldn't want any teenager of mine to do that

AlmostAJillSandwich · 19/04/2018 17:02

There are more women over 30 that game than there are males under 18. Totally normal.

Spending a day off doing a hobby? Seems perfectly healthy to me.

Lethaldrizzle · 19/04/2018 17:07

Not a hobby where you don't much. Not something I would encourage

Lethaldrizzle · 19/04/2018 17:07

*don't move much

Like sewing or knitting or painting or reading or writing or colouring or watching movies etc etc.

Weekends when DD is with her dad I can quite happily spend a whole day sitting and reading 3/4 books.

There's nothing inherently healthy about any of the above, including gaming, being done on a day off. The very fact that its a "day off" suggests their life contains other things

FleurDelacoeur · 19/04/2018 17:13

I'm almost 46 and have spent the afternoon playing Fallout 4.

Lethaldrizzle · 19/04/2018 17:14

Colouring all day? Never watched movies all day either but then I like moving around.

Pretty sure one day isn’t going to kill anyone.. 🙄

JacquesHammer · 19/04/2018 17:15

@Lethaldrizzle

People in liking other things shocker!

yasmin0147 · 19/04/2018 17:17

Very normal lol

NotACleverName · 19/04/2018 17:22

Anyway, I’ve woken up from my nap and have just loaded Horizon Zero Dawn into the PS4.

BrashCandicoot · 19/04/2018 17:22

It sounds extremely normal. "Day off" suggests it's not the main focus of their life.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/04/2018 17:27

It’s normal for 18 year olds, very sad for anyone over the age of 23.

mamahanji · 19/04/2018 17:28

Mydcaremarvel 23 and have been gaming since I was 8. Does that mean I'm too old now?

adaline · 19/04/2018 17:29

ZOMBIE.

This thread is ten months old!

Woshambo · 19/04/2018 17:43

Im 30 and still like to game on my days off lol

mildshock · 19/04/2018 17:46

DP is 30, I'm 27 and we used to spend our days off gaming at home or gaming with our friends.

Now we have two small DC so no opportunity to play and we're usually asleep by half 9 anyway!

We do still have a D&D session every 2-3 weeks with some friends though, it's great fun Grin

Madratlady · 19/04/2018 17:47

Totally normal. Video games aren't just for kids OP, chances are they won't 'grow out of it' any more than someone might grow out of any other pastime they enjoy. My husband sometimes plays games on his days off, as do most of our friends, most of us are aged mid 20s-mid30s (although those of us with kids get considerably less time to). We play games together usually a few evenings a week.

What would you deem an acceptable passtime?

purpleorchidwhite · 19/04/2018 17:48

Very normal

TheWitcher · 19/04/2018 18:38

So at the stroke of midnight on my 24th birthday I will go from normal to very sad. At least according to some random judgmental Mumsnet poster. Good to know.

VickieCherry · 19/04/2018 18:40

I'm 36 and would love to spend a day off playing Pokémon Go. Not quite the same as console games, but still gaming. It's not just teenage boys!

forcryinoutloud · 19/04/2018 19:17

One day off if only they did that! I remember reading that was one reason Andy Murray's now wife left him when they were going out, she couldn't stand him constantly gaming.
