To think it's not normal for an 18 year old to play video games on their day off? Mine doesn't move!

I haven't gamed properly (on a console etc) in years, the cbeebies app games are my only look in these days lol, but this thread has inspired me to dust of the old PS2 and get stuck in again!

BabychamSocialist · 26/06/2017 22:24

Have you met any 18 year olds?

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 26/06/2017 22:58

I've got some scissors you can borrow if you want to cut those apron strings?!?
She's 18...unless what she is doing is illegal or distressing to others then you leave her be. She's an adult now and it isn't your life to lead.

Prideinmyplace2 · 26/06/2017 23:41

Totally normal & even recommended by many child psychologists.

Also apparently teenagers need up to 12 hours sleep a night of the changes that are going on in their brains!?

I fully understand the desire to wake them up and want them out of the house...

elfycat · 26/06/2017 23:48

I'm waiting for the kids to grow up so I can spend a week or so maybe a month or more getting submerged in a decent game.

45yo and counting...

strawberrisc · 27/06/2017 03:44

I work and I see my friends a lot. Ibhave absolutely NO interest in regular walks in the park or tramping around museums. However, I do like replaying the best game EVER made (for me!) "Zelda, the Ocarina of Time" on the old Nintendo 64. Even if the fucker nearly had me failing my GCSE's!

I fell in love with my ZX Spectrum which was my 8th Christmas present. I wouldn't surface for days. Games took dedication because they couldn't be saved and when yoy died, you died! I was addicted to the Dizzy series.

*GoldilocksAndTheThreePears

A lot of my (adult) friends I met on Destiny in the last couple of years have started playing Final Fantasy 14. A lot of them took days off for the recent expansion launch and many more will be for Destiny 2 beta and release! I talk to gaming friends every day through Discord, which is like a more modern Skype. In my 30s and gaming every day!*

High 5 for fellow Destiny player! Can't wait for the beta to drop.

DP and I are mid 30's and game pretty much every day. We have a nice array of consoles/PCs.

Currently playing -

Destiny
Killing Floor 2
Wolfenstien TNO
GTA V
Alienation

Recently finished (twice) Life is Strange.

All this talk of DAI reminds me I need to finish my current playthrough at some point.

JigglyTuff · 27/06/2017 07:52

I love the way this thread is bringing out all the gamers Grin

BalthazarImpresario · 27/06/2017 07:53

Dp has just got in from work and is playing a game. He's nearly 45

OnionKnight · 27/06/2017 07:54

I've got the day off today and I'm about to play some Rocket League Grin

Lordamighty · 27/06/2017 08:01

I am over 60 & still playing. Started with the DCs when they were young & still love it. We always have the latest console & it usually fascinates/horrifies people when they find out. Favourite games so far have been the Dark Souls series.

Lweji · 27/06/2017 08:06

@OnionKnight

You might end up playing with DS. Grin

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 27/06/2017 10:37

lordamighty Ive been scared of starting dark souls. How hardcore is it?

Do all you gamers know there is a gaming topic on MN? It was introduced by popular demand 2 or 3 years ago when there was a long running thread about HayDay.

A different kind of game to WoW but also has social interaction.
I've also played Township, Paradise Bay and my current obsession is Farmville Tropic Escape.
Any other plays Tropic Escape players around?

bogofeternalstench · 27/06/2017 16:31

I'm another 30-something gamer. Met my husband on Guild Wars. Now we happily play Guild Wars 2 together. :)

I think non-gamers don't understand that gaming can have an incredibly social aspect. Aside from my husband I've made a couple of very good friends through gaming. And when my first husband and I split, and my irl friends weren't available, my in-game friends kept me company and got me through. :)

I'm currently addicted to Civilization V & Skyrim, alongside GW2. Not much of a FPS type - historically I've preferred adventure games like Grim Fandango or Atheist Monkey Island series, or sim games like Theme Hospital/Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Bubblesagain · 27/06/2017 16:32

waves to a fellow guild wars 2 fan I thought I was all alone on here as everyone else seems to play WoW! I'm working on my second legendary ATM, I got kudzu just before Christmas Grin

bogofeternalstench · 27/06/2017 16:55

waves back
I briefly tried WoW but I'd been spoiled by the GW (1&2) graphics and just couldn't cope with the step down.
I finished my first legendary just before Christmas (Nevermore). I don't think I'll make another as I'm not keen on most of them - I tend to like realistic-looking weapons and the legendaries are a bit showy for my taste.
I'm currently playing a lot of Dragon Stand metas and trying to get all my characters sorted with their elite specialisations. Only finished Druid & Reaper so far.

bubblesagain · 27/06/2017 16:59

I'm making an underwater one for my second - Kamohoali'i Kotaki, basically just because I like the shark animation!

My main is a druid, I'm trying to get into other professions too, I have insane amount of character slots as I'm a bit of an alt-oholic but I only have a lvl 80 druid and warrior. I play a lot of wvw and dungeons lately, although finding people to run dungeons with is like pulling back teeth, everyone seems to have gone to raids or just not bother anymore.

mumeeee · 27/06/2017 17:01

It's perfectly normal. My daughters are 25.27 and 30 and they still play video games although admittedly not all the time.
Actually even me and Dh play sometimes

JoshLymanJr · 27/06/2017 17:33

Currently living in Fallout 4, but my 6 year old is getting very interested in the Playstation. I've been looking at Unravel and Grow Home as possible starters - any thoughts?

WickedLazy · 27/06/2017 17:41

I'm 25, and play a game on ps4. Used to play world of warcraft, but don't have the right kind of laptop anymore. I don't play it as often now, spend more time on other hobbies (grown up gaming is very time consuming, I tend to help/play with ds more on his games now), but in the past have devoted an entire Saturday to it. Totally normal imo. As long as it's not all she does in her spare time.

WickedLazy · 27/06/2017 17:45

Have any of you seen the series "the guild" on youtube? Worth a watch Smile

Lordamighty · 27/06/2017 17:46

@TheHeraldOfAndraste - Dark Souls is difficult but totally addictive. Lots of help online. I have played all 3 of the Souls games & have liked all of them.

WickedLazy · 27/06/2017 17:54

I also still play pokemon yellow on my gameboy advance, on the old cartridge. And have it on my phone too. The sad thing is, there are nearly as many hours logged on the two year old phone version as on the 10 year old current save on the original.Blush. I also play the odd other old gameboy game, Simcity, supermario bros etc.
