To think it's not normal for an 18 year old to play video games on their day off? Mine doesn't move!

OP posts:
SugarNyx · 26/06/2017 17:28

My husband does it at 29!

lady412 · 26/06/2017 17:38

Im a professional in my 20s and still game. When my and my other half have a day off we crack out the xbox or playstation and game :)!

Actually come to think of it on an evening once kids are dealt with and the house is sorted we game.

Its more fun than watching some crappy reality tv xD (in my opinion)

MommaL · 26/06/2017 17:39

I spend my free time cross stitching, why is that not considered a waste of time but gaming is? I love gaming too, I can blow 8-12 hours on The Sims when the mood takes me. I'm 36. Why does it matter what someone does with their own free time.

Fluffyunicorns · 26/06/2017 17:40

Normal. My 18 year old is having a gap year to try and become a professional League of Legends player. Not my first choice but "I have to support him in what he wants to do". We are at least talking moral support not financial! All those years of paying school feesConfused

wrenika · 26/06/2017 17:41

I'm 28 and I love a good weekend in front of the xbox. It's heaven when you can get it!

Sausagehead · 26/06/2017 17:45

omg sadly i know 40 year old with children who play these games on their day off/ time out. i dont know how their partners live with them.

flowergrrl77 · 26/06/2017 17:50

absolutely what is the 'thing' now!

At least they're not off getting shitfaced and catching STD's! ;)

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 26/06/2017 17:52

I try not to look at the "Hours spent playing" on my Steam account. Especially Stardew Valley. That game is addictive Blush

Sausage maybe because their partners aren't judgemental douches, and understand that different people enjoy different things to unwind?

opinionatedfreak · 26/06/2017 17:56

I've never got into gaming but my 36yo brother likes nothing better than a day at home on his x-box

Sallystyle · 26/06/2017 17:58

Thanks to this thread I just bought Planet Coaster.

jessebuni · 26/06/2017 17:59

My husband and I practically fight for the console on our days off. Kids too 😂 We do however have a rule that the games consoles are in the sitting room because if there were consoles in the bedrooms we'd probably slide down a dangerous anti-social slope.

OnionKnight · 26/06/2017 17:59

My wife has spent over 3000 hours playing The Sims and I have over 750 games in my Steam account, gaming has no age limits and frankly anyone who looks down on people who play games needs to bore off Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 26/06/2017 18:03

Sausage Dont be so judgemental. There are many things people do that dont interest me, but wont judge them for it. If someone wants to go fishing or something, crack on and enjoy it.

VickyRsuperstar · 26/06/2017 18:05

Sounds totally normal to me! I'm not giving my age, but I love gaming and so do all my kids. We play games together, we play separately, we go to meet ups and play games with other people and we have fun. Obviously it's not healthy if that is all someone does, but it's fun on a day off to have a lazy day and do nothing but chill out including play games!

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 26/06/2017 18:06

Is anyone in favour of a regular gaming and geekery thread where we can obsess talk about whatever we're playing without the judgement of the its juvenile/lazy/antisocial crowd?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 26/06/2017 18:09

Aye Herald. The Gaming threads are dead but its nice to talk to like minded folk.

HipsterHunter · 26/06/2017 18:19

My DP games a little bit.

I actually like it, either he plays of the games I like watching (like far cry) or if he is playing a less interesting one I read my book in peace.

DeleteOrDecay · 26/06/2017 18:21

Probably because their partners are decent people who realises everyone has different interests and hobbies.

R1nderCella · 26/06/2017 18:22

Haha! My ex husband used to arrange bastard Fifa nights with his friends. We were---- aged late 20's at the time.

LadyTmalia · 26/06/2017 18:26

I love gaming days, Like a previous poster said, my mage (and druid) are older than my 2 youngest, My daughter has been playing the same game since she was 7. She is so sociable, has (after careful vetting and not being alone) met so many different and wonderful people, which has helped her in university as well.

When I was younger, I would spend all night and weekends in my room with my head in a book, which is a lot less social (but it was fun - wish I could do that now and forget about the kids and DH :O )

Cant go into to much detail as I have a raid, but don't knock it til you have tried it.

LadyTmalia · 26/06/2017 18:33

mg sadly i know 40 year old with children who play these games on their day off/ time out. i dont know how their partners live with them.

Well my husband is right next to me playing his game, when the children were younger we both spent our time with them, dedicating our evening to them and spending the rare hour or so before bed gaming. Either together or separately, sometimes I go off and do something solo, sometimes he does. Now they are older, once they have done their chores and homework we will either play a game for an hour, watch TV or read.. It works for us, my kids are great kids and well adjusted.

We have taken the kids to conventions and concerts and all sorts, They are exposed to beautiful music and foreign languages - All because of some of the games we play. Eldest son is now looking at a career in coding games.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/06/2017 18:35

Of course it's normal OP, we all like to chill out at home, male or female, sometimes going out, just doesn't cut it.
Don't be harsh.🤔

LavanderBrown · 26/06/2017 18:37

I'm 24 and I've spent my whole day off today gaming
