AIBU - a physical trait (of- mine) that I have always hated is now fashionable....

I have freckles, covered in the buggers. Face, arms, knees, legs - everything but my tummy. I hate them with a passion. My DF always joked that in the summer when they were at their most potent, it looked as if I had stood too close to a muddy puddle and someone had dropped a brick in it. Previous sentence is for context not father bashing. He meant it in the best possible way and in humour, I love him dearly.

I am lucky that I tan and don't burn but I do have dark hair so this may be the reason why. I feel so ugly in the summer when they come out fighting. I have good(ish) skin but I long for a clear complection and decolletage.

Anyway, I found this link before on Buzzfeed: linky

I am all for personal preference but who in their right mind would willingly get freckles?

I hated mine when I was younger (parents told me not to worry as they would fade as I got older, as I'm adopted they made me look so different to the rest of my family) but they haven't faded. At all. When I've been away somewhere sunny no matter how much sun cream I use my face is covered (like the photo of the beautiful red haired woman up there although my hair is darker) and I think I look almost alien like but I adore them. Once a very attractive man I knew was asked what type of woman he liked and he said 'freckly ones' and that's it, my freckles ROCK! I have very freckly children as well and I think they are just so beautiful and they stand out from the crowd in a really good way.

Embrace the freckle!

Ruthie2k · 19/06/2017 22:52

I have freckles and have always loved them, my eldest has them and hates them, I say she has been kissed by the freckle fairy and it's super special, she quite likes this.
The fake freckles look bloody awful, like permanent giant blackheads.

Missolford33 · 19/06/2017 22:54

I like freckles! Was a little worried when my partners daughter seemed to have a problem with them when we were doing Halloween make up. She wanted them covered up because she hates them! She's only 9. Tried to ensure her they were lovely and she looks gorgeous with them

Ollivander84 · 19/06/2017 22:55

Now I've read the whole thread, freckle no longer looks like a word Grin

GaynorGoodwin · 19/06/2017 23:06

I have freckles and love them, but then don't care enough if anyone else doesn't like them. Life is too short.

Mollymutkin · 19/06/2017 23:40

those freckle tattoos just look like a bad case of chicken pox scabs!

LadyBumps · 20/06/2017 01:21

And what age would that be then, Calyrical?! Do tell, and I'll ensure I have mine surgically removed the year they're no longer deemed age-appropriate ;)

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 20/06/2017 06:58

I actually had to read back to see what Calyrical said. It actually made me laugh it's so ludicrous. It's not like I can just stop wearing them when I reach a certain age. I'd better tell my poor dad who I get them from at nearly 70 he's probably too old for his freckles. How can something that is a physical feature start looking daft at a certain age?

Calyrical · 20/06/2017 07:12

I think it's because they are something I associate with children.

FurryLittleTwerp · 20/06/2017 07:21

I have always had a few freckles across my nose & cheeks in the summer - I have dark hair (had - now greying) & olive skin. I've always liked them Smile

Those tattooed ones look awful, like they need washing off Hmm

MrsPorth · 20/06/2017 08:50

Years ago, a 15 year old acquaintance of mine was scouted by a modelling agency because of his roman nose. Once his nose had gone out of fashion, he was spat out by the industry.

I also remember when gappy teeth were a big thing and there were stories of girls wanting braces to create a gap (don't know if that ever happened, but they would probably have looked as weird as those fake freckle women in the OP).

Nameynamechangeforthis · 20/06/2017 09:33

Ollivander I was going to say the same thing.. Read the word freckle so many times the word haa gone all weird on me.

manicmij · 20/06/2017 09:34

I have recipes and have always been very aware of keeping out of the sun. Freckles are spots of melanin and when more appear in the summer it is your skin's reaction to the sunlight and is definitely not to be encouraged, you are at risk so should make sure you cover up or use sun cream. As to what they look like they generally face with age and from experience most folk either think they are attractive or don't even notice them. Do hope you take care in the sun.

FavouriteWasteofSlime · 20/06/2017 09:45

I love my freckles! They come out on my arms in summer. When I was a child they also came out on my nose and next to my eyes but no more, I wish they did.

FfionFlorist · 20/06/2017 10:58

I am very freckly still even in my 50s and I have dark auburn hair, I inherited them from my father who inherited them from his mother. My dd2 is strawberry blonde and very freckly too. It is unusual where we live, but we feel that it is a connection to our family's gene pool. I love them.

We say " a face without freckles is like a garden without flowers"

secretselkie · 20/06/2017 13:08

I'm also pretty covered in freckles.. and have never been a fan of them 🙄 Thankfully over the years the ones on my face have faded and mostly disappeared (when I was a child they used to join up in the summer and create a war paint effect across my nose! 😮)

I can't imagine anyone actually actively wanting them 😲

MaddieElla · 20/06/2017 13:49

My daughter has freckles, lots of them. So many some of them are merging!

I actually feel really guilty about them, because despite wearing factor 50 and a hat, it is sun damage that is causing them. Sad

She says sometimes kids stare at her or ask about them, but I don't think she's particularly bothered by them. I do wonder if they'll fade/disappear with age.

clarkl2 · 20/06/2017 20:30

I love my freckles!

JinWimbledon12 · 20/06/2017 21:40

It looks great!

I would be happy to vote for this book.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.

grannytomine · 21/06/2017 20:13

I hate the sun, always cover up, factor 50 sunscreen, never go on holiday to hot countries. My freckles are the same in January as they are in July. I don't think they are likely to fade as I am 63.

SpeckledyHen · 21/06/2017 20:26

My DF would look at the developing freckles on my face each Summer and exclaim, " A girl without freckles is like a sky without stars!"

Writermom22 · 09/07/2017 12:15

I've recently seen an advert on social media for stick on freckle transfers!!

MaidOfStars · 09/07/2017 16:48

I small freckles, dark brown 1mm jobs, all over my body, along with larger marks that I call moles (but they are mostly flat, so maybe they are still freckles). I love them and think they look fab on my suntanned shoulders. I like 'proper' freckles too.

I also have white freckles on my legs and arms. These are mostly invisible except when I tan. Small, round circles, again maybe a mm or so across. Anyone else?
