Might get crucified for this but....

She won.

She's had a lot to manage a response and a
Plan to deal with since she became PM.

I didn't vote for her. My partner did.

I feel a bit sorry for her.

Anyone else?

"Ah now she didn't turn up due to a timetable clash. Right. "

No, she didn't turn up due to security- as they said numerous times before - that doesn't mean she wasn't doing anything else. She uses her time productively.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/06/2017 17:44

. just last week, told us that the majority do think she is up to the job (or they wouldn't have voted Tory). Erm, no they didn't, that's why the DUP are propping her up. More voted against the Tories than voted for them.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 17/06/2017 17:53

More voted against the Tories than voted for them.

That's the same for all parties though.

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 17:54

I clarified use of the word "majority" in my previous post (16.45) based on Orlantina's assertion that the majority of people in the country thought she wasn't up to the job.
I said, "just last week a greater number of people voted for her party (and therefore her) than did for Labour under Corbyn."

Dawndonnaagain · 17/06/2017 17:54

It is, but using the majority in a discussion when it's clearly not the case merits the reminder. May does not hold any sort of majority without the DUP. There are 650 seats available, hence the need to hold 326. She doesn't.

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 17:56

More voted against the Tories than voted for them.

And that's the nature of our election system and has resulted in parties of all persuasions in charge. Fewer than 50% *of the adults in this country" voted for Brexit in the referendum - still got it through.

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 17:57

And I clarified it, DawnDonna. I'm fully aware of how it all works, thank you.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/06/2017 18:00

I'm afraid I agree with others octupus, she isn't up to the job and is on an extremely limited tenure now. The tories will want her gone, due to the poorest election campaign in history, and her unpopularity with the general public. She messed up with Manchester, London and now this. It's just not working. Watch them retire her due to ill health...

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 18:05

Watch them retire her due to ill health...

As Labour lied did with Diane Abbot?

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 18:06

How did she mess up with Manchester?

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 18:07

More voted against the Labour Party than voted for them.

paxillin · 17/06/2017 18:09

Spiteful and ugly, thatdearoctopus. Abbothas badly controlled diabetes.

Spiteful? How? I'm not disputing that she has diabetes. My point was that she (DA) had her emails hacked and published, which showed her objecting to the fact that her diabetes was to be used as a cover story! Her (spiteful and ugly) colleagues in Labour were quite prepared to throw her under the bus - and publish her medical details to boot.

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 18:20

"with so many austerity measures,"

Austerity measures? She's released 5 million in funds and has promised more as needed. Hardly sounds like austerity is affecting her response.

AliceTown · 17/06/2017 18:22

More voted against the Labour Party than voted for them.

Isn't that the case for every single party? The Tories got 42.4% of the vote, so 57.6% "voted against" them too.

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 18:23

Yes, Alice, that is the point that is being made - for both "sides."

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 18:28

AliceTown Alice, yes, that was the point I was making.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2017 18:29

And how much will she be paying to keep the Dup sweet?

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 18:30

5 million is money for the families - it's the money that they need.

Artofnoise1 · 17/06/2017 18:55

Five million. What a fucking joke!!Probably the annual bar bill in the house of commons!
What an insult to people who have lost everything.
Maybot strikes again.

I wonder much much she's promised the DUP in her desperation to cling on to powerAngry

IloveBanff · 17/06/2017 19:20

£5 million is a paltry amount.

needsahalo · 17/06/2017 19:23

Five million. What a fucking joke!!

It's a considerable sum per family affected (somewhere between 400-600 people lived there?). That's over £8,000 per person by my calculator. It will buy clothes, bedding, kitchen equipment, toys, books, furniture, replace IT equipment and mobile phones, pay for new passports, copies of birth certificates etc. Allow people to re-set up home when they get one, get back to some kind of 'normal'. It is surely enough short term? Long term, counselling support privately could run into thousands, legal costs if required will be huge (but they have already been offered free legal support), loss of work and pension, and probably untold costs I can't think of are a major issue and I agree, £5 million won't touch the sides. But assuming they have immediate, unfettered access to this money, short-term it is a huge help. Or am I missing something?

I am no fan of TM but I think as long as this is 'no strings' money, it's a positive start.

paxillin · 17/06/2017 19:28

She did say more money will be made available should it be needed.
