Dd2 came home today and said the head had lost it and ranted at them calling them 'antisocial low life scum' ! Am I overreacting to think this is totally unexceptable?

Crispsheets · 16/06/2017 21:17

How old and what were they doing?

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:18

If that happened it would be unacceptable, yes.

But.

I'd be very surprised if it happened. I'd want to know exactly what was going on at the time....it's not unheard of for children to embellish things, especially if they would like attention directed away from something they have done wrong...

Helloitsme88 · 16/06/2017 21:19

It's the summer term. He/she is knackered....
But no. Not acceptable. What had the kids done to warrant such a reaction?

sonjadog · 16/06/2017 21:20

Sounds unlikely.

Floggingmolly · 16/06/2017 21:20

What were they doing?

Piratesandpants · 16/06/2017 21:20

What had they been doing?

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 16/06/2017 21:21

What had they done?

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 16/06/2017 21:23

What happened before that was said?

JustCallMeKate · 16/06/2017 21:24

It doesn't matter what a child has done, no HT should be calling any child 'antisocial low life scum' if it actually happened

capercaillie · 16/06/2017 21:28

How old are the children?

HildaOg · 16/06/2017 21:29

In the unlikely event that happened, there must have been serious behaviour that provoked it and tbh, if kids are going to behave deplorably it's far kinder to be honest with them so they know what reaction the general public will have to them then to pretend they're just adorable rascals... Only oblivious, deluded parents think that.

LargeGlassofRed · 16/06/2017 21:33

It was today and it happened it was during a fire drill, one of the year 11s set of a fire alarm.
My dd2 is year 8 and hadn't even heard the word scum till today

Ideally no headteacher should be driven to that point. Even heads are human beings. Acceptable no, understandable - possibly.

We've taken away so many disciplinary rights from schools that sometimes they're having to manage really awful stuff day in day out effectively with their hands tied behind their backs. Its not surprising that heads and teachers occassionally snap. But when they do momentarily lose composure you can bet the little darlings that have pushed them too it, get parents to put in a complaint.

We cant have it all ways. Our schools and our teachers are struggling significantly because we as society aren't supporting them. Worse than that many are actively working against them.

Lead up to the coments would be interesting.

spaghettithrower · 16/06/2017 21:34

Anti-social isn't too bad
but
calling them "low life scum" is well out of order.
However, I'd be interested to know what provoked this!

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:34

So who was the HT allegedly "ranting" at?

RippleEffects · 16/06/2017 21:35

So they were collectively called antisocial low life scum, or the act of setting off the firealarm causing major disruption is the work of antisocial lowlife scum?

JustCallMeKate · 16/06/2017 21:35

there must have been serious behaviour that provoked it

I completely disagree with you. NO HT (or any other teacher) should be calling children 'low life scum'. No matter what behaviour was displayed there is no reason for any HT or teachers to say that. if it happened

WindwardCircle · 16/06/2017 21:35

Was it "you're all anti social low life scum" or "you're all behaving like anti social low life scum"? I can imagine a teen leaving the behaving out for hyperbole, but it's the difference between calling out their actions and insulting them.

Allthebestnamesareused · 16/06/2017 21:35

To be fair only "antisocial lowlife scum" would set off a fire alarm as a joke after this week's tragedy!

Seeingadistance · 16/06/2017 21:35

They set off a fire alarm, during a drill - today!

He was right.

WorraLiberty · 16/06/2017 21:36

How does a child get to year 8 without ever having heard the word 'scum'? Confused

Not even in a science/nature lesson?

FrogsLegs31 · 16/06/2017 21:38

So what he probably actually said was that "the perpetrators" were behaving like antisocial lowlife scum not every student in the school?

sonjadog · 16/06/2017 21:38

I suggest you rather focus on telling your child why letting off a fire alarm is inappropriate behaviour, rather than making it all about how awful the head is.

PovertyPain · 16/06/2017 21:38

Considering what has been happening the last few days, I'd tend to agree with him.

Crispsheets · 16/06/2017 21:39

Yes I agree too
