Dd2 came home today and said the head had lost it and ranted at them calling them 'antisocial low life scum' ! Am I overreacting to think this is totally unexceptable?

Worra I came on to post the same thing!
OP did your son actually hear this or is it one of those stories that gets more and more exciting (like Chinese whispers).
Having been in many fire drills at secondary schools it is quite difficult to hear!

grasspigeons · 16/06/2017 21:40

Well if it was 'you are an antisocial lowlife scum' not acceptable. If it was 'this is the sort of behaviour of an antisocial lowlife scum, and that's not you..what made you do this' nearly acceptable

cricketballs · 16/06/2017 21:41

Exams are ongiing atm - setting off a fire alarm is beyond disgusting; whilst I don't condone the language I fully applaud the message

Muskey · 16/06/2017 21:42

I am pretty sure op that your year 8 dc has heard worse words used than scum also in light of this weeks tragegy setting off fire alarms is the work of somebody behaving like and probably is low life scum.

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:42

Ok.

  1. There were some big GCSE exams today - it's pretty antisocial and scummy to let off a fire alarm whilst that's going on.

  2. There was a massive fire where people died - a fire alarm would've been v scary for lots of children.

FeckinCrutches · 16/06/2017 21:42

My dd2 is year 8 and hadn't even heard the word scum till today

Fuck off Grin
A 13yo hasn't heard the word scum before? She's not very well read or educated then!

PovertyPain · 16/06/2017 21:45

But they were anti social lowlife scum. I admire Heads who don't pat troublemakers on the head and give them a gold star.

StrongerThanIThought76 · 16/06/2017 21:46

You think your Y8 dc hasn't heard the word scum before?!? You'd be shocked if you really knew the full 'range' of their vocabulary!!

But yes to pps, big exams today, inexcusable to be setting off fire alarms, can understand if head lost it - you're behaving like scum sounds more likely tbh

LargeGlassofRed · 16/06/2017 21:46

He aimed it at year 8 and 9 girls, have no idea why, it was aimed at only them.
Dd2 understands the horrors of fire more than most she was present, when we lost out home due to fire last year.

Yes, to be honest if the HT said the fire alarm setter off had behaved like anti social low life scum, I'd 100% agree with him/her.

& in the unlikely event that he/she actually told the entire school that they were anti social scum, I'd agree that was wholly inappropriate.

So what, the HT gets fired because of complaints & it's all good because 10 outstanding candidates are lined up before the Board of Govs fighting over the job on Monday?

Not going to happen. Education in England is utterly broken. I'd put the pitchfork back in the rack, tbh, if he/she is otherwise a competent warm body.

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:49

Was the phrase he used "yr8&9 girls you are antisocial low life scum"?

Really?

Otherwise how was it aimed at them?

RebelRogue · 16/06/2017 21:50

Is it a girls only school? Or did the head target the girls specifically, not even from the year group that was guilty? That makes no sense.

Did she refer to them in particular, all the students in the school or the ones that were actually responsible?

He said the year 8/9 girls where showing off to the leaving year 11's

Seems as though you're trying to eke bits of the story out.
Are you waiting for someone to link your dd having never heard therefore understood the meaning of 'scum' to proof that what she says happened did so as a matter of fact?

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:53

Hang on. You said you had no idea why...what were they doing?

What did he actually say?

RebelRogue · 16/06/2017 21:55

So what's the full story? What were they doing and what did the head actually say? It's not hard to put all the info on rather that posting one sentence in dribs and drabs.

Sparklingbrook · 16/06/2017 21:56

Seems there's more to this.

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:56
gillybeanz · 16/06/2017 21:57

I'm pretty sure this isn't what was said. I believe this is what your dd believed was said, they are totally different scenarios.

I too have a Y8 dd, and wonder why yours has never heard the word scum before.
She must exist in a bubble.

RebelRogue · 16/06/2017 21:58

@SmileEachDay huh?

SmileEachDay · 16/06/2017 21:58

Maybe the OP's daughter is more hard core and prefers the word "cunt"?
