Dd2 came home today and said the head had lost it and ranted at them calling them 'antisocial low life scum' ! Am I overreacting to think this is totally unexceptable?

But what did the Y8/9 girls DO? Show their ankles to Y11?
I have zero idea how we go from 'children messing about during an evacuation' to 'staff have decided that what the students wore is the cause'. Sounds a bit like trying to whip up a uniform debate and get a mass 'people over sexualise what girls wear'. Confused

But it terms of what loud kids messing on might do:

  1. Not being in their cirrect line but being stood in other lines talking
  2. Not being in register order so when staff go down the line they can't tick people off efficiently
  3. Talking loudly, shouting, screaming or (as some groups of girls do) putting on this silly ditzy act that makes themselves seem dumb blonde-esque. (Never under stand that one but I've seen really smart girls do it too).
  4. Calling out at members of staff to complain about anything and everything when they're trying to check people are out the building.

I can't belive it's actually required to point out what messing around and behaving inappropriately during an evacuation is.

Surely it's simple: leave the building, sensibly go to your assembly point and line up sensibly in register order so staff can roll call.

Anything that isn't doing that is an issue.

I agree that it shouldn't be necessary, unfortunately posters haven't considered the knock on effects to those taking the exam, and how long it can take to resettle a class if this behaviour is going on.

I have experienced school emergency evacuations of several kinds. They can vary from overexitedly chaotic to calm and orderly. Whatever the type of school and age of the pupils the aim is the latter to ensure their safety. That's why schools have fire practices or 'drills', obviously.

I just wondered what the Y8/9 girls were doing to get the HT's attention and prompt him to, allegedly, term them 'antisocial lowlife scum'. If he did.
Imho the Y11 who set off the alarm should go to the fire station, apologise, and do something useful there for a few hours.

Unreasonable to ask? Apparently so!

Christ what a fucking none issue.

What some parents get their knickers in a twist for makes me think they have too much time on their hands.

OK so this is a generation ago. My HT called anyone of the boys who was way out of line "You bastard son of a kicking codfish". We knew this was not "correct" but also knew that he was pointing out one of us had messed up. Personally I regret the loss of the judicious use of dramatic rudery to make a point. Every generation has its owm honour codes.

I'm with you and totally agree.

When I said it's simple what I meant was all the students have to do is follow the bloody evacuation procedure and not mess around (like showing off to y11).

The implications of an evacuation on exams etc is big enough without dealing with students who think getting some attention is the biggest issue.
