Aibu to be so angry with the tory government regarding grenfell

GreenTreesWithLeaves · 16/06/2017 20:47

Grenfell should not have happened. Austerity, cost cutting, ignoring the poor, helping the rich get richer, all this led to the horrific circumstances.

Tory response? Theresa May didnt even speak to the survivor residents. A tory minister cited security reasons, yet the Queen managed to come out and talk to the residents without issue.

Tories have form for voting against safety issues in housing. All to benefit the wealthy. It is utterly shameful that these are the people that run our country, who care only for the rich.

It's not 2010

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 00:54

To bluegreenyellow

PickAChew · 17/06/2017 00:55

Theresa May has achieved the rare and difficult to accomplish accolade of being an even less socially accomplished PM than Gordon Brown.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 00:56

Plus labpur proposed laws to make social housing habitable blocked by Tory landlord MPs..hardly not mentioning safety.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 00:57

Carol the fact some people voted for KCtMO means literally nothing here.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 00:58

And Lol at it being Tony Blair's fsult for introducing insulation policies.god you Tories are getting desperate now.

PickAChew · 17/06/2017 00:58

And ffs, meeting energy efficiency standards is not a bad thing. Meeting those standards On the cheap, using apparrently quite legal highly flammable materials is a bloody terrible thing.

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 01:00

Agree with mrsterrypratchett when the PM is too scared to visit the site of a disaster like this, something isn't right.

She needs to go and let someone who can actually lead take charge.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:00

Plus "being appalled by the use of the suffering for political ends" is pretty stupid when the political ends are to stop.more suffering happening and provide justice for those killed.

But it does sound very worthy. Hmm

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:01

Spot on pickachew

bluegreenyellow · 17/06/2017 01:03

they proposed no such thing labour had plenty of time to pass the bill in the 13 years they had oh and i know its not 2010 dont really understand your point

PinkGlitter17 · 17/06/2017 01:04

It strikes me that TM's behaviour/reaction makes this a political points-losing exercise - her lack of humanity reduces every single fucking aspect of how she approaches and deals with this to a shallow vacuous point of tiny-ness. Some people started off, I think, with the idea that JC, on the other hand, was/is 'scoring political points' with his compassionate approach, going to see residents and hugging them etc. But no. It is not about that, and he has transcended it. It's about being a real person with a heart and a brain. If people view it through the filter of 'points', they're missing the point. It's strange, because it will definitely boost him in political terms, but at the same time, it's nothing at all to do with anything other than decency and respect and humanity.

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 01:07

Agreed pink . I know not everyone agrees but I feel like he is doing the decent thing - he has a record of being a normal human being even without the cameras on him.

TM never answers a straight question. She got destroyed on Newsnight.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:08

Well you talk about 13 straight years of Labour government and ignore the 7 years since then of Tory rule.

Hypocritical and really quite lame.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:09

Err they did propose such a thing by the way. Do some basic reading.

deffoncforthis · 17/06/2017 01:12

Literally straight up lying about

  • This is because of austerity
  • Corbyn's legislation was applicable to this issue in any way

You guys don't seem to care what you lie about and will stand on the bodies of the dead to do it. If that's how you want to be fine, but don't be surprised if a number of ordinary people see you as cheap, politically opportunistic liars.

Good luck getting your man into number 10 off the back of nightmarish human suffering.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:13

I smell delusion

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:14

Good luck keeping yout woman in number 10 after all the nightmarish human suffering , if you want to play mawkish meaningless guilt tripping.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:15

Which i don't so am off to sleep.

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 01:17

deffconn you know when you use such emotionally charged words, it is hard to either discuss with you or to take you particularly seriously.

People have different views of what government should be like. That's fine. we can still talk without everything being so emotionally dialled up.

bluegreenyellow · 17/06/2017 01:35

Err they did propose such a thing by the way. Do some basic reading. nope it was private housing not social housing do your reading you say so yourself when you talk about landlords

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 01:36

bluegreen

Could you add some punctuation to that sentence? I'm interested in what you have to say, but it is hard when you don't use correct grammar.

caroldecker · 17/06/2017 01:39

Could someone please share the Labour proposed legislation wording on 'making rented homes fit for habitation'.
please share what they were proposing that was voted against.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 17/06/2017 01:39

"Housing" then

They voted against making it safer.

I'd think on that before trying to get on your high horse.

No leg to stand on.

Goodnight.

Headofthehive55 · 17/06/2017 06:20

i would hate for a politician of any colour or the royalty to meet me straight after a disaster.

I don't think it was anything to do with austerity. A hotel, where wealthy people stayed failed in the same way in Dubai. I just don't think it was widely acknowledged that these panels would behave in that way. They are fire retardant on the outside. Reading that on making your decision in a committee, I guess no one would have batted an eyelid.

I am horrified that it's being turned into class warfare. It just isn't. The panels were meant to provide insulation so that the heating bills are not as expensive. They got it wrong. I'm sure not intentionally. Most safety improvements come about from disasters. Even experts have said sprinklers may not have helped in this situation.

Even the residents association weren't complaining about the type of cladding, more access for emergency vehicles.

Remember polystyrene tiles on ceilings anyone? Same problem. But in owner occupied houses. Until we now know they aren't a good thing.
