London's a big place augustus. I'm sure you and your daughter can find somewhere untainted by us legions of unwashed scumbags. Have a lovely birthday!

Is that actually a serious question twinkie?

Regressive right are really tetchy these days aren't they?

The irony of that statement is deep and satisfying.

Fitzsimmons · 16/06/2017 07:41

YADNBU OP. Protest is part of our democratic right. I suggest all of those complaining go and live in North Korea or one of the other countries where protest is banned. I'm sure you will fit right in.

The majority of people did not vote for the Tories but thanks to FPTP they are in power. The whole system is flawed.

Glad to have satisfied you so early on a Friday morning Bill Wink

We're sleepwalking into an era of more disasters (that could be prevented) and misery for millions. Can i leave this here:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Martin Niemoller.

Those of us who will be marching will be speaking for many who can't. And those who object, just exercise your democratic right not to protest Grin

Peregrina · 16/06/2017 07:50

Tell me when the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea had a Labour council, then you can come back and tell me that Grenfell is Labour's fault. I am not a Labour supporter - I am just sick of seeing the wealthy try to run away from taking responsibility for the chaos they have caused.

Bananagio · 16/06/2017 07:51

the UK is already the laughing stock of Europe! Thanks to JC & TM

Agree with the first part of this - although in my part of Europe the feeling seems to be more bafflement that a country they have always held in high regard has seemingly turned into a basket case pretty much overnight (as it would seem to those who haven't followed the lead up to where we are now over the last few years). We are also seen as a cautionary tale of how you can fuck up your country. Don't agree that JC is being laughed at though. It's amazed me how everyone I talk to over here in Italy seems to know TM's name - and not in a good way.

Agree with whoever said above that some people are starting to sound rather rattled.....

Good luck with your protest marchers! And carry on ignoring those desperately trying to derail.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead

That's been posted so many times on MN it's actually lost its meaning. Probably because it's totally over the top for what you're protesting about.
Do you think the Tories are out to kill everyone who isn't a Tory?
If you want to be Che Guevara, you'd do better than marching on a sunny Saturday in London ( where the authorities are not going to shoot you )

Enjoy your stroll through London Smile

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 07:54

Oh am swating away the poison gnats

Still looking for other marched will post soon

You'd have thought the bugs would be crawling back to the sewer..hey ho

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 07:54

sleepingdragos We didn't vote for TM or JC, we voted for the candidates in our constituency. Your graph is about TM and JC.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 07:54

exploding are you going tonight?

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 16/06/2017 07:55

It might have lost its meaning for you surferjet but not for me.
And yes, actually Tory policies are killing people. Do some research.

Spectre8 · 16/06/2017 07:57

Labour supporter blames Tories for the Grenfell situation because of cuts.....pointed out that Labour didn't do anything either and they were increasing funds in public sector.....Labour supporter response is to say Yeh well Tories didn't do anything for 6 years.

I seriOusby despair at this...seriously it is such a childish response. I am more angry that Labour who poured money into the public sector and are the party for working classes as they love to say so..did not ensure that the additional money was spent where it was needed. What is the excuse there? How did they help the very people they use as political pawns to get voted in.

If the demonstration was about how successive governments have failed and anger at both Labour and Tories I could see myself going but not in its current form.

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 07:58

Democracy? Different day, different result

And that is the attitude McDonnell et al are espousing. No respect for the democratic choices of others. Showing their true colours.

MacarenaFerreiro · 16/06/2017 07:58

We don't like the result of the election so we're going to throw a tantrum about it and have a protest and a march! How COOL are we????

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 16/06/2017 08:00

Yes it's just about a result.

Not.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 16/06/2017 08:00

I dont blame you both for being worried though. The Tories are in trouble.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 08:01

Buzz buzz buzz....these bugs enjoy spreading poison

BillSykesDog · 16/06/2017 08:05

Ghost, the problem is - I think that poem these days is much, much more applicable to the left. It's the left who are holding anti-democracy riots and demanding that those who disagree with them are disregarded. It's the left who seem to issue the most threats and intimidation (#dietoryscum anyone?), it's the left who don't want certain democratically elected MPs to be allowed to fully participate in the democratic process because they disapprove of them.

Ever. You're your own worst enemy on this thread. A lot of the criticisms people are making about it just being a superior, arrogant tantrum from bad losers who can't handle losing seem to be echoed in a lot of your posts.

As I've said, it's ineffective. Let me try and imagine I'm you and that I have to answer some of the questions you have had, I might try:

'We know the police are stretched at the moment, but we know a lot of them are concerned about the cuts too so we think they'd support us. Lots of big events still happen in London and require policing so we won't be unique and the police will have contingency plans for terror attacks during large events. And of course if anything did happen the protestors would be just as concerned as police and do whatever we could to free up resources quickly including following all police instructions.'

Or 'We're not having a tantrum because we lost, we accept the democratic result, but we think that it's important that we still show that people have concerns and they've not gone away'.

You see, simple, honest, reasonable counter argument is always more effective. That sort of argument would probably attract more people to the protest as well.

Because at the moment you really are reinforcing the impression that you are inviting people to have a mass tantrum with your responses.

CrossWordSalad · 16/06/2017 08:05

I think those getting excited about protesting and marching should be very careful about stirring up riots

I think there is a certain element (not saying on this thread) that is hoping for riots.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 08:08

Oh just getting my fly spray out.....buzz buzz buzz

Peregrina · 16/06/2017 08:08

We don't like the result of the election so we're going to throw a tantrum about it and have a protest and a march! How COOL are we????

Theresa May didn't like the result of the 2015 election and decided to call another one to get a result more acceptable to her. That worked well for her, didn't it? From a serviceable majority, she is now in a minority and having to stitch up a deal with the DUP. This won't play well with the Scottish Tories, to which she owes one, since they helped her get the votes she did. How COOL is that?

explodingkittens · 16/06/2017 08:09

Sadly there's always 'a certain element' cross. Does that mean that ordinary decent law-abiding taxpaying people don't get to voice our anger?

OP posts:
GerdaLovesLili · 16/06/2017 08:10

Of course you are perfectly within your rights to tell people about a legal demonstration. But don't you think the emergency services are already overstretched? Don't you think they deserve a day off? After all, as we are constantly reminded after all the cuts, they are stretched very thin, (and it's the left that care so very much about them and the right who are so evil and don't give a shit.)

Do you think that this demonstration will convince the swing-voters who didn't vote Labour to do so next time? (Because that's what you need to do), Or do you think it makes you look like a bunch of petulant teenagers wrecking your bedrooms because you didn't get your own way?
