People's Assembly

For those of us who are sick and tired and angry and devastated.

spectre8 - I think we are about to see Corbyn and McDonnells true colours coming through and it won't be pretty.

Carolinesbeanies · 16/06/2017 01:11

"That's a really poor arguement Sea."

No it isnt. The utter disregard for the 24/7 shifts our police have had to provide this week, is appalling.

But then thats part of the problem, an utter disregard that someone else is paying the bills, and that your protesting view is the only one thats important.

Guess youre expecting the council to clear up your shit afterwards too?

Take responsibility for being a member of society first, before demanding your right to protest a legal democratic general election.

SilverdaleGlen · 16/06/2017 01:14

Spectre they lost me at the inability to spell "lose", when did that become "loose" its bloody everywhere!

Good anyway led comrade JC show his colours, the louder the better and let TM show that rather than knee jerk personality politics that have screwed us over since Blair she can just knuckle down and get on with the bloody job in hand!

sleepingdragons · 16/06/2017 01:47

Democracy? Different day, different result.

Have you seen the polls recently? If the campaigning had lasted a week or so longer we'd have had a very different result indeed.

I'm not sure how anyone can say that May as PM represents the will of the people after seeing this - and this poll was taken before her disasterous handling of the aftermath of the Grenfell fire the last couple of days.

It's our democratic right to protest anyway, but especially apt IMO when a PM and her party have such low approval ratings only days after getting elected.

To remind you of the protest march in London on July 1st?

Um. That's what protesting is about. I'm not sure you really get what protesting is.

When's the last time you did something for the good of society? (Not charity).

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 01:56

People didn't expect that there was that much Labour support.

So now they are protesting in order to keep that support alive.

That is what is happening here, in my opinion.

Ylvamoon · 16/06/2017 02:07

Go on, have your protest... the UK is already the laughing stock of Europe! Thanks to JC & TM. (They both have no conscience in regards to their country.)

P.S. don't think it's going to change anything... have a look over the pond... they are clutching at Russian straws in the hope to change things.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 02:18

spectre A lot of countries have laws about owning houses you don't live in. It is to stop exactly the situation that is happening in London right now.

Obviously I'm not saying that means it is ok for people to get their homes taken away right now, but I would welcome such a law in the UK.

It is disgusting that there are people living in over-crowded, unsafe conditions, while rich people own multiple properties that they don't even use.

Carolinesbeanies · 16/06/2017 03:11

"When's the last time you did something for the good of society? (Not charity)."

Oh havent you just invited a lecture.

Paid my taxes (happily and without grumble making my donation to our welfare bill)
Supported my employer to make profit, to enable them to support more employees like me.
Paid my own mortgage.
Paid my own bills.
Didnt break any law.
Put my shit in a litter bin.
Instead of stamping my feet and tieing up stretched public services demanding 'entitled' help for my neighbour, I helped my neighbour.
Took my father to his cancer appointment at Guys which he was entitled to use arranged transport for.
(and we're back there tomorrow, so if you lot fuck up the traffic around that area, Ill be back tomorrow night. Its bad enough with the current diversions as it is)
Oh, and of course, I voted in a general election, as any socially responsible person would.

So in short, fuck off with your petulant Jeremy should have won protest.

(Im sure Ive missed loads, but you really wouldnt get it anyway)

Carolinesbeanies · 16/06/2017 03:25

Single apol needed, I note the protest is saturday 1st July, not tomorrow as I thought when I posted.

Thats ok then. Gathering crowds around London Bridge will only impact emergency case patients trying to get to Guys on a saturday.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 03:58

carlones so what, no one should ever protest in case it impacts on emergency services?

These are responsible citizens LIKE YOU who have the RIGHT to protest.

highcastle · 16/06/2017 04:10

Carolinesbeanies I'm not sure how shitting in bins is for the good of society.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/06/2017 05:01

Regressive right are really tetchy these days aren't they? Hardly surprizing since the wheels are coming off the Brexit bus and the party of economic competence are in disarray.

Democracy is about holding governments to account. Protest is part of that. People don't just shut up for 5 years. Protest brings about social change/raises awareness of issues - womens rights, end of apartheid etc.

sleepingdragons · 16/06/2017 05:17

GhostofFrankGrimes yes they sound rattled don't they?! Grin

Yabbadabbo2 · 16/06/2017 05:20

Irony is the bill to police the "peaceful" demonstration could be better spent in many other places.

olliegarchy99 · 16/06/2017 05:21
Biscuit
BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 05:25

So yabba we shouldn't protest because the money could be better spent elsewhere? You aren't serious?

The problem isn't the lack of money. It is how the current administration is spending money.

Do you really believe there is no money? We are a rich country. There is plenty of money. It's just not going to the right place.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 16/06/2017 05:28

Irony is the bill to police the "peaceful" demonstration could be better spent in many other places.

usual right wing claptrap - "we can't afford it." The pointless general election last week cost a reported 143 million.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 05:29

ghost When the Tories get what they want, it's not a waste of money, it's democracy .

sleepingdragons · 16/06/2017 05:29

Carolinesbeanies so, nothing outside of getting on with your own life then.

I'm not sure you really understand what protest is. Mass protests like this are often driven by people's desire to make our society a better place, not self interest.

Did you actually look at the poll I posted? Do you accept that TM probably would have lost if the election was this week?

Clandestino · 16/06/2017 05:56

I seriously don't get this sense of fear from the Tory supporters. People have no right to be angry, election is over, get used to it, Tories won because they have a better programme so why do people demonstrate ...
Meanwhile an apartment block went up in flames with people dying horrible death. A Tory ex-minister was sitting on information about potential serious dangers and risks related to the housing and did nothing. A Tory drastically reduced the size of London firefighting services and then told a Labour councillor to get stuffed when called out on it.
Everyday people are affected by cuts in important areas such as schools, healthcare, elderly care etc., while the people running this country are indulging the idea of reintroducing fox hunting. I think this best shows the vast gap between the people running Britain and the majority living in it.
But just like with Brexit, the moment people start protesting, they get ridiculed, told they should cope with reality the election results, shut up and pull together, like Tory success should be everybody's success. No, Tory success means that about 5% of the British population will have a great life and fuck the peasants.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 16/06/2017 06:33

Wow you took your father to an appointment and didnt throw litter on ground. That will truly revolutionise society.

GrumpyGreta · 16/06/2017 06:40

It's not fear. We're not rattled. Protest if you want. It will make no difference to anything just like it didn't last time. It just reaffirms my beliefs about Labour supporters. Entitled and arrogant. You won't see protests if Labour win a GE as reasonable people realise that that is what most people who cared enough to vote want and accept it (or leave as scaryteacher did).

We will never agree over this so have your march, thanks for the warning to avoid the area.

SeaWitchly · 16/06/2017 06:50

Grenfell. Police cuts. Fire cuts. NHS cuts. Oh and poor and black lives matter

YANBU OP, thank you for sharing this information.

Also agree with Clandestino above ^

SeaWitchly · 16/06/2017 06:52

It just reaffirms my beliefs about Labour supporters. Entitled and arrogant.

Wow, as a whole group? And as compared to Tory supporters?

Well, we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.
