AIBU to say that Nikki Morrison and Sherrie Ryder of the BBC are lazy-assed 'journalists' and that it's possible that BBC have just ruined my oldest and closest friendship?

Yes it's a TAAT, but it's a thread about MY thread. So for thise of you who haven't read my previous thread, I was due to be a bridesmaid on Saturday when my best friend decided she couldn't go through with it and I posted on here for some advice about what to do.

The MN massive provided me with some excellent advice and we got through an extremely difficult day. I received an email from MNHQ to say they had received a media request from the BBC who wanted to run the story, I politely declined. Now it would appear they have run the story and they have quoted me (and other posters on the thread) without my permission. Yes, I realise this is a public thread and that's they didn't need my permission but I'm still pissed off!

So I just needed to call the bride and tell her why her story in on the BBC website and needless to say she is not a happy bunny. Yes I know I deserve it but I REALLY needed advice!

Anyway BBC, YOU ARE CUNTS AND I WANT MY LICENSE FEE BACK! ( Bet they don't publish this thread)

AIBU is just a joke topic. But it's all about 'traffic' I guess.

Maudlinmaud · 14/06/2017 21:49

Hq please post a sticky at the top of AIBU warning posters not to post about weddings. If they do let them know it will be in the press before the end of that day Grin

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 14/06/2017 21:50

Support..or advice

ticketytock1 · 14/06/2017 21:50

Jesus that's wild! Scum!

TheLegendOfBeans · 14/06/2017 21:51

Fucks sakes, the hang 'em and flog 'em brigade are out in force today!

MN is an invaluable source of (mostly) intelligent people who've had a wealth of life experiences and are happy to offer practical and emotional advice on a host of subjects.

Whilst it's true that posting on a public forum could make you fair game for being the subject of lazy journalism, note the OP said "no" and was ignored.

If I had been in her position I'd have done the same thing. And I'd be colossally upset at the fall-out inadvertently caused by just seeking advice on how to help a mate.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2017 21:51

You have to use MN carefully and post wisely. Everybody knows the score.

It isn't an emergency service.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2017 21:53

But the press don't need to ask permission to lift threads from here. They were probably asking because if the OP said yes they might have agreed to a proper interview with pictures etc.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 14/06/2017 21:53

Maybe the score is wrong and needs changing so that MN can stay a source of support then?

PurpleDaisies · 14/06/2017 21:54

MN are going to have to do something about this soon, or they'll be losing posters in droves.

I don't agree. It's bloody annoying but surely everyone knows journalists lift stories and you need to be careful if you post about very identifiable situations.

People did warn you on the other thread op. Sorry this had happened though, it's rubbish for you and your friend.

RestlessTraveller · 14/06/2017 21:54

Jesus Sparkling I think you've made your point, or are you really Sherrie Ryder?

OP posts:
Shitalopram · 14/06/2017 21:54

That's awful. How do these people bloody sleep at night? It's not as if this story is remotely in the public interest.

TheNaze73 · 14/06/2017 21:55

Posting a story like that on a public forum, is like posting a nude to someone. Once it's been posted, there's basically fuck all you can do about it. It's scummy of the cunts at the BBC to that though

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2017 21:56

Well it's up to MNHQ I guess Finally. At the moment this is the way things are and you have to post accordingly.

There is usually a Topic that fits the subject better than AIBU. Better a few quality replies than six pages of mixed ones.

There's even a Weddings topic. Shock

RestlessTraveller · 14/06/2017 21:58

I think that's where I fucked up Shitalopram. I was desperate and didn't know what to do, I've been on here years and thought 'I bet someone has been through this before'. My mistake was that it never crossed my mind that this would be considered actual news. It's too late for me, I completely deserve it if she never speaks to me again, it it's worth pointing out actually does happen.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2017 21:58

I have no idea who Sherrie Ryder is so that would be a no.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 14/06/2017 21:59

I think it's fair enough for people to tell HQ they feel uncomfortable. It's not demanding anything, it's feedback

PacificDogwod · 14/06/2017 21:59

YANBU.
It is very poor journalism that I kinda expect from the DailyFail, but not from Auntie.

It is very wise to remember that we lose all legal rights to everything we post and send on here.
'Tis the nature of this forum.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 14/06/2017 22:00

Hope you resolve it with your friend OP Flowers

Sherrie Ryder is the journo who picked up this story.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 14/06/2017 22:02

Sounds like a porn name

RestlessTraveller · 14/06/2017 22:02

It so does!

A bit of a side note but I have to say that taking a thread on a forum that is (to a degree) anonymous and no way of truly backing it up or confirming it with actual, nom-anecdotal evidence is shoddy as duck before you even get into the whole gutter press article.

Just be pleased that the anonymity of it leaves them open to a grilling from the PCC and even open to defamation, plus they've not really offered a right to reply either. Piss poor.

glitterglitters · 14/06/2017 22:04

Non-anecdotal
Shoddy as fuck

Ahem autocorrect

kimchipancakes · 14/06/2017 22:04

Mumsnet is huge (10 million unique visitors per month it says on the about us page) and the thread was massively identifying, there was a huge chance she would of been identified by someone who knew her eventually, and told anyway regardless of it being on another website. Mumsnet is not a private club.
