To think Labour should save their political point scoring re Granffell tower for later on

I'm actually quite disgusted that Labour are yet again using a tragedy to score political points (as they did with the terrorist incident) so soon after the event.
Yes questions need to be asked, but it seems inappropriate to be doing that right now, when we should all be pulling together and focusing on the victims of this awful accident. There is no need for the political point scoring today.

She was a coward not to meet them and people should be up in arms about the fact that she didn't.

She's the prime minister for God's sake. She can't even look the country in the eye.

Yanbu.
Because if the situation was reversed, the tories would milk it for what it is worth, they have no scruples, and NO sympathy for normal people.

She was very keen to announce a public enquiry, which means that apparently those affected won't have a voice Sad
You can't have a public inquiry and an inquest and the latter would allow the relatives of those who lost their lives to ask whatever questions they wanted to and to get the answers they need.
This will just blame the lowest, easiest scapegoat they can find.

I am starting to get a bit suspicious about the number of deaths still standing at 30. I understand that it is going to be a long and complicated process finding and identifying remains. But surely someone must know how many people lived in the tower, and be able to have counted by now how many of them got out and/or are in hospital, thus how many are likely to have died inside? I think people are starting to get cross that the headlines are all still reporting "at least 30" deaths when surely the real figure must be into the hundreds, it's starting to smell like an attempt to cover up or delay the real, probably horrific, number...

brasty · 17/06/2017 13:54

We know 62 people are missing. And some people are critically ill in hospital and may die. So it looks likely that 92 will have died, and some currently in hospital may also die. So it is going to be around the 100 figure.

But I assume it will take DNA to identify those they find now dead. That does take time.

Atenco · 17/06/2017 15:35

The number of dead in 9/11 didn't depend on finding the remains. The more I hear about this the more shocked I am and angry at the people who say that this is not a political issue.

BubblesBuddy · 17/06/2017 16:35

Actually it did depend on finding remains to be absolutely precise! Only 291 people were recovered intact from the World Trade Cente and these were mostly outside the building. 1 millions tons of debris was searched to find other remains. It is better not to peddle rubbish about how the investigations are carried out here.

Quite frankly we do know how many have died more or less. We tend to want evidence in this country before saying anything definitive and identifying bodies is the way we do things but everyone knows the total is 75 plus. We should be mindful that the building is dangerous and everyone is doing their best to recover bodies.

BertrandRussell · 17/06/2017 17:53

Everyone knows that the death toll will be huge. But the chances are that we will never know exactly how huge. Nobody can possibly know how many people were in the building.

SkintAsASkintThing · 17/06/2017 18:08

Maybe he's angry that people had to throw babies out of windows in a last ditch attempt to save their lives ??

As far as I'm concerned all those involved, from the manufacturer of the damn panels to those who issued threats to sue when residents raised concerns about fire safety last year should be charged with manslaughter and jailed accordingly.
