To think Labour should save their political point scoring re Granffell tower for later on

angelcakerocks · 14/06/2017 20:28

I'm actually quite disgusted that Labour are yet again using a tragedy to score political points (as they did with the terrorist incident) so soon after the event.
Yes questions need to be asked, but it seems inappropriate to be doing that right now, when we should all be pulling together and focusing on the victims of this awful accident. There is no need for the political point scoring today.

Oh Dan you warrior you..ofcourse I don't know if that's true any more than you don't know I wank in a circle?

And you also don't know if I volunteer do you? Or donate?

But good for you making yourself feel superior to me. Hope it's helping you
And I hope you manage to hide your lovely views from the kids you help

explodingkittens · 15/06/2017 20:47

Love that you mention that full monetary value of all that you've donated, though. Nice touch.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 20:48

I forgot to say the kids you allegedy help

sleeponeday · 15/06/2017 20:48

Not that it's any of your fucking business, Dan, you lovely, lovely little DeathEater, but I volunteer several hours a week at a free advice clinic. Hence my awareness of the state of social housing stock managed by the private sector. In point of fact, I find it rather amusing that you are so desperately flinging around ad hominems and whatabouteries. It heavily, heavily underlines your total lack of substantive argument. Perhaps you lack the necessary critical thinking skills to recognise that? Or perhaps it's just the necessary insight. A pity, either way.

May's chosen appointee for fire safety, Hurd, chose to vote against Corbyn's amendment to a housing bill which would have made it mandatory to provide housing that was safe, and fit for human habitation. This may or may not reflect the fact that he is himself a private landlord. The argument against such legislation was, however, that it would be an unreasonably onerous demand upon landlords. I can't fathom why or how anyone with a brain would suggest this makes May trustworthy on the issue. Especially as she voted against it, too.

Wording on electrical fire risk:

“New clause 53 is about safety and would introduce a requirement for landlords to undertake electrical safety checks. Many organisations from across the sector support the measure, such as the Local Government Association, the London fire brigade, Shelter, the Association of Residential Letting Agents, British Gas, Crisis and the Fire Officers Association. They have all given their support in the past to measures that will see the introduction of mandatory electrical safety checks.

“It is estimated that electricity causes more than 20,000 house fires each year, leading to about 350 serious injuries and 70 deaths across the UK. Carbon monoxide, gas leaks and other fires and explosions cause fewer deaths and injuries, with 300 injuries and 18 deaths—these risks remain serious and it is right that we should continue to monitor them, but that shows what is at stake as regards electrical fires in the home.”

Finally - I live v near there. DP and I have donated over £1k of stuff and cash so far and have rounded up donations from friends outside London. We're trying to organise an event for the kids in Holland Park when things have settled down a tiny bit. Plus one of the charities I work for does work with children in that area; i am organising help and events through them too. Will that do?!

When you loudly scream that it's totally okay that May and her chosen fire safety appointee blocked the legislation that could have prevented this? No. CHANGE is what is needed, not playing Lady Bountiful with kids who've seen their home burn down with several of their friends still inside.

sleeponeday · 15/06/2017 20:55

Is it possible to wank in a circle and pat yourself on the back at the same time.

I wouldn't have believed so, no - but reading here, Dan's posts achieve it.

silkybear · 15/06/2017 20:56

Excellent posts Sleeponeday Wine

Dandandandandandandan · 15/06/2017 20:57

Can you link to where I said it was ok to block legislation re housing, ta?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 20:59

Sleep great post

I wonder if Dan can give me a how to manual on the wanking back patting thing. He/she seems to be in the know!

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 20:59

ta? ta? Really

Dandandandandandandan · 15/06/2017 21:00

You seem a bit too over invested in that term. Try looking it up on urban dictionary whilst you're on your walk!

EmilyBiscuit · 15/06/2017 21:00

Thousands upon thousands of people still live in similar buildings. Something must be done, and the voices of tower block residents have been silenced for far too long. If it takes a march (and the associated cost) to make the government actually DO something then so be it.

It will take years for the final outcomes to be made public, that isn't in doubt. But we don't have to wait that long. We have the recommendations of the investigations into Lakanal fire to implement as a start.

FreakOfNurture · 15/06/2017 21:01

This place has really gone to the dandaddogs.

I'm glad somebody - Jeremy Corbyn - gives a shit.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 21:06

Jeremy yes let's get back to him. Was far from a fan. However

Watch ""OH, JEREMY CORBYN" (White Stripes Seven Nation Army 2hr continuous mix)" on YouTube

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 21:08

I will be matching and if the people of Grenfell feel appropriate at that time to have banners for them. I will march with them

sleeponeday · 15/06/2017 21:13

It won't change anything. As I said, May is changing it all by herself. But why let that put you off enjoying a circle jerk and patting yourself on the back?

May who voted against the amendment is, according to you, so trustworthy that any march to hold her feet to the fire isn't necessary.

I've studiously avoided comment on your posts on other topics because I try, quite hard, to be constructive on political matters. Two of my dearest friends are Conservatives and great people, and I respect their views. They respect mine. But they are genuinely engaged in their local communities, and not in a self-exculpatory fashion. It's heartfelt and quietly unsung. I have never seen you post in a manner where I felt responding would achieve much that would help anyone, or anything. Your posts today, however... I've had enough. I've just had enough. Words about caring are cheap. Sops to charity are cheap. This country is messed up in terms of provision for the poorest, it wasn't always this way, and it needs to change.

People did not need to die. Yes, it was down to cuts. Yes, it was down to inertia. No, sitting back and awaiting the powers that be who consistently vote to fuck over the most vulnerable in our society is not an option. You either advocate a bucket under the leak, or you advocate trying to fix it at the source.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 21:20

Sleep it is people like you that can help us rebuild and retrack. The young in general understand true caring values and a lot of us older than them

Don't pay too much mind to Dan He/she isn't articulate enough to give a considered argument anyway and seems to have really hairy hands at times

FreakOfNurture · 15/06/2017 21:21

And please do report saddos.

Fab39ish · 15/06/2017 21:29

There is a petition on change for sprinklers to be fitted to high rise buildings.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 21:31

Thanks Fab will sign

Fab39ish · 15/06/2017 21:34

Thank you.
Sorry I would link it but no idea how to on my phone.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 15/06/2017 21:38

dan

As others have also said,

I hate to break this to you but you can post whatever you like about the charity work you do

And you can denigrate other peoples charity efforts or lack thereof

But no one has to believe it...we have no way of proving it

Like you cant prove i am in my pjs watching orange is the new black

But i know you know that Wink

sleeponeday · 15/06/2017 21:43

Oh bless you, but that doesn't upset me. Grenfell, and knowing what those people suffered, does. It really upsets me. Some truly idiotic online posting doesn't touch the sides.

I think that as a rule of thumb we get a lot further when assuming goodwill, and happily I tend to find it's almost always present. But sometimes, I just can't discern goodwill as a possibility.

I think for the likes of the dandedads or whatever its name is, this site is sadly a magnet. Best ignore.
