DH banging on about me having a boys haircut

VapingForEngland · 09/06/2017 13:30

I'm a nurse and DH has made the discovery that anyone above band 5 in the NHS has boy hair. Obviously I've told him this is nonsense but he says he's never witnessed a band 6 or above have a feminine cut.

Anyway I've just applied for a band 6 job and he's banging on and on about me needing to get a hair cut to have a man's style. He won't discuss anything else, whenever I mention the interview he just goes back to the haircut thing. I even heard him on the phone saying I have a job interview so will be booking an appointment at the salon. MIL agrees with him!!!

AIBU to be finding this tiresome? A bit of support would be nice.

What?! How odd. Is he always so difficult when you have career success / improvement?

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 09/06/2017 13:32

Er, is he usually a misogynistic dick? So he's noticed a few people have a similar haircut, so now he has thinks he has the right to tell you to cut yours? Tell him to fuck off out of it.

Fe2O3Girl · 09/06/2017 13:33

Has he got an issue with you applying for a promotion?

Unless everyone above band 5 in the NHS are boys, they don't all have boy hair.

MikeUniformMike · 09/06/2017 13:34

What is the boy hair style? Is it one of these?

The Faux Hawk?

Your DH is a dick.

DonaldStott · 09/06/2017 13:36

Wtf Confused

MapMyMum · 09/06/2017 13:36

Sounds to me like he's put out by you going for a promotion and so is undermining you. Would you be the main earner if you got the job? Id give him an ultimatum to shut up - mention it once more and I'll give your goolies a boys cut 'd'h....

Cesar1 · 09/06/2017 13:37

Sorry what can he mean here? How has he made a link between your hair and a job? My DH would hate me to have short hair. Just don't do it. There is no logic.

ElspethFlashman · 09/06/2017 13:37

Is he a little unwell? Does he have mental health issues?

He sounds like he has a fixed delusion.

hellobonjour · 09/06/2017 13:37

Is this just light hearted banter with your husband?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 09/06/2017 13:38

It's a weird thing to notice.

Even weirder thing to get hung up on. Tell him if he mentions it again you'll adapt this look...🤡

Armadillostoes · 09/06/2017 13:40

I also work in a field where most senior women have "boy hair" not that I like that phrase! Their choice, I have long curly hair and sometimes where a pretty slide if the ocassion permits. I am also quite senior. Nobody sane and sensible cares. It doesn't worry me what style other people have if they are competent and the majority of my colleagues think the same.

pnutter · 09/06/2017 13:42

He sounds really annoying.

FastAbsorbingCake · 09/06/2017 13:42

WTF???

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 09/06/2017 13:43

That's really weird, he's totally undermining your achievement. Does he feel threatened by successful women? The only way he can cope with this is by equating success with masculinity? I'd be really pissed off too if my dp behaved like this!

PuppyMonkey · 09/06/2017 13:44

Must be a laugh a minute in your house. Confused

Lottapianos · 09/06/2017 13:44

'Boy hair'? Is he 8 years old?

I have very short hair (vaguely Sue Perkins-esque) and work in the NHS above band 5 but strangely enough I have managed to hold on to my vagina and ovaries and am still most definitely a woman.

What a plonker

TikkaToRide · 09/06/2017 13:44

He's being an ass tbh. Short hair on women is not boy hair and not is long hair on men girl hair. It's just leaving my hair or short hair. It's also a really weird thing to get fixated on. It seems like a joke just pushed and pushed when no one laughs.

fanfrickintastic · 09/06/2017 13:45

He's an idiot. None of the bad 6s in my office have short hair.

indigox · 09/06/2017 13:45

How weird.

YellowPaisley · 09/06/2017 13:46

He sounds a bit batty to me Confused

reallyanotherone · 09/06/2017 13:49

Sounds like he thinks he's thought of a good joke bit has now gone past off the cuff funny to talking it about so often he's coming across ans very serious.

Call his bluff and book into the salon? See how he reacts. Or say you've re thought the promotion as you really don't want a haircut...

ThePinkOcelot · 09/06/2017 13:49

Can't say I've noticed that tbh! I'd be telling him to stfu! Why is he banging on about it?! I don't really understand him!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/06/2017 13:50

I was band 6 and had waist length hair.

People just had their hair how they wanted.

Willow2017 · 09/06/2017 13:53

So if women have short hair its a 'boys cut'? Ok ask him when he becaume Dictator of Haircuts? FFS! what an ignorant pratt, I would be having serious words with him.

VestalVirgin · 09/06/2017 14:03

How odd. Does he have aspergers or something? Such a fixation on haircuts isn't normal.

Did he give any reasons?

I suppose it would be understandable if he thought you had no chance getting such a job without the proper haircut, but you didn't mention anything about that - and presumably, as you are the one working in the field, you'd know best what you need to have to get promoted!
