DH banging on about me having a boys haircut

VapingForEngland · 09/06/2017 13:30

I'm a nurse and DH has made the discovery that anyone above band 5 in the NHS has boy hair. Obviously I've told him this is nonsense but he says he's never witnessed a band 6 or above have a feminine cut.

Anyway I've just applied for a band 6 job and he's banging on and on about me needing to get a hair cut to have a man's style. He won't discuss anything else, whenever I mention the interview he just goes back to the haircut thing. I even heard him on the phone saying I have a job interview so will be booking an appointment at the salon. MIL agrees with him!!!

AIBU to be finding this tiresome? A bit of support would be nice.

OP posts:
PaulDacresFeministConscience · 09/06/2017 15:32

he was correctly able to point out all the band 6s and 7s so from that he's come to the conclusion that that's what it takes to climb the ladder in the NHS

Yes, because obviously it has nothing to do with talent, experience and commitment. Nope, it's ALL about the haircut Hmm

If he honestly thinks this then you must be shitting me that he's an engineer because surely someone who is so terminally stupid as to believe this theory, cannot possibly be intelligent enough to become an engineer?

Emmageddon · 09/06/2017 15:33

I am a band 6 and have shoulder length curly hair - I guess it's boy hair if one references Brian May or Harry Styles.

Bizarre, this is. Does he have a thing about long lustrous locks?

OnionKnight · 09/06/2017 15:33

Is he thick?

ArseyTussle · 09/06/2017 15:37

Is he generally a bit of an oddbod, OP?

BitOutOfPractice · 09/06/2017 15:41

How utterly bizarre.

He thinks he's funny right?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 09/06/2017 15:46

He's being an arse... Or does he have something wrong with him..??

I know people from band 6 up to 8d banding... There is a real mix of short /long and everything in between...

Waltermittythesequel · 09/06/2017 15:47

Is this one of those joke threads that I'm just not getting?

QueenofEsgaroth · 09/06/2017 15:55

Why are you with him?

FilledSoda · 09/06/2017 16:04

This is just so weird.
So not a joke ?

MeadowDream · 09/06/2017 16:04

Congratulations on getting the interview!
I'm band six and definitely don't have "boy hair" and neither do any of my band six or seven colleagues!
I have met many senior staff over the years who do have shorter hair (and look lovely btw) but I've met many more who have got long hair.

PuppyMonkey · 09/06/2017 16:43

Not a joke Grin

barefoofdoctor · 09/06/2017 16:50

What a complete weirdo your DH is. Bit creepy really. If he's that fixated on you cutting your hair prior to your interview you might just wake up with 'boy hair' (WTF?) one morning soon.

glintwithpersperation · 09/06/2017 17:13

When my little brothers were dicking about like twats my wonderful DGM used to have a serious face and whisper "NN" (no notice). I suggest you do the same, ignore and perhaps he will stop behaving like a twat.

From a band 7 with shoulder length brown hair

LadyLoveYourWhat · 09/06/2017 17:18

Tell him to read up on confirmation bias. Loads of people have commented here about women with long hair at that band, even one would blow his theory out of the water.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 09/06/2017 18:06

He seems to think he has made some witty or astute discovery and is trying to milk it for all its worth

I think so too, sounds like his idea of a joke. Must admit it's made me chuckle although I can see how tiresome it would get.

EarlessToothlessVagabond · 09/06/2017 18:13

This is just bizarre and I'm struggling to believe it.

whyhastherumgone · 09/06/2017 18:16

Er WTAF OP. For a start even if this madness was true, why not fixate on your potential success instead of your appearance?

Christ why do we have to put up with this nonsense? Is he always like this?!

NurseButtercup · 09/06/2017 18:18

None of the band 6, 7 and 8's I've worked with this week have "boy hair".

Sounds like he's decided to use this as an opportunity to wind you up, instead of congratulating you and helping you with interview prep.

I would just ignore him.

Good luck with the job interview Flowers

pointythings · 09/06/2017 18:31

Well, all the band 6 and 7s where I work have long, feminine hair. Except for the one who's male, that is.

Bodicea · 09/06/2017 18:33

I am a band 7 and have very girly long blonde hair.
I suspect your dh is being ageist - thinking all women when the hit a certain age get a pixie type cut.

AmysTiara · 09/06/2017 18:34

Either this is a poor joke or your DH is not quite well.

Ohb0llocks · 09/06/2017 18:36

I don't think your DH is ok, OP

Intransige · 09/06/2017 18:38

If DH carried on like that I would be forced to use my "you're on fucking thin ice" voice. It's HAIR, it's not a PhD. Honestly, the way some people go on about women's hair you would think they have the impression that our primary role is decorative. Oh, wait...

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/06/2017 02:13

So if a woman (band 6)with the prerequisite short boy hair goes on maternity leave, then comes back a year later with long girl hair, does his theory mean that she either has to cut her hair or be demoted to band 5?

chickensatay · 10/06/2017 02:44

I'm a band 6 and I have waist length blonde hair. Perhaps it depends where you work. In my area all of the band 6/7s are "younger" so the minority has short hair (more often a style worn by older ladies). Our very senior nurses (30+ years in service) do all have short hair cuts.
