to think you can't smear corbyn for supposed sympathy to the IRA and supposed willingness to do deals with the SNP and THEN do a deal yourself with the DUP?

YANBU

corythatwas · 09/06/2017 12:45

YANBU indeed.

titchy · 09/06/2017 12:45

You're forgetting the unionist terrorists were on the right side, so guerrillas rather than terrorists - so it's all fine Hmm

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 09/06/2017 12:47

Hear hear.

And i would love the Tories here who were banging on about Corbyn and IRA to come and defend this.

But i bet they won't.

Boynamedsue · 09/06/2017 12:47

YANBU but unfortunately they can and they will. Coalition of chaos indeed.

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2017 12:49

Just came on to start this thread. Would love to hear from some of them.

ShatnersWig · 09/06/2017 12:51

It smacks of appalling hypocrisy, shows an absolute desire to cling onto power as long as possible no matter who they have to deal with, and a certain knowledge that whenever the next election happens they are going to get royally shafted and possibly be out for two Parliaments. So will try and stay as long as they can.

lakehouse · 09/06/2017 12:51

DUP were not and are not paramilitary supporters. They are not the equivalent of Sinn Fein. Do not forget the Sinn Fein leaders are convicted and admitted terrorists. The DUP may hold some strange views but they are not close to the same league as Sinn Fein. Jeremy Corvyn supporting Sinn Fein showed he is a terrorist sympathiser and, as much as you may dislike TM, she does not condone terrorism.

Fab39ish · 09/06/2017 12:52

Yanbu. Hypocrisy of the highest order.

deeedeee · 09/06/2017 12:53

Remember when Gordon Brown was legitimately completing the process of looking for coalition partners in 2010 and was accused by the media of trying to steal the election?

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/173876/General-Election-2010-How-dare-deluded-Gordon-Brown-cling-to-power

I wonder if the media are going to hold Theresa May to account for doing a hypocritical deal that blows the hard Brexit that she's been pursuing out of the water ?

YANBU. The DUP have not had any proven terrorist links until evidence appeared just this week of the UVF campaigning for DUP votes.

Atasteofcreme · 09/06/2017 12:54

Yeah they only hate LGBT and women having autonomy over their own bodies.

Nothing wrong with doing a deal with them Wink

Clinging onto power by buddying up with a load of religious misogynistic wankers

BertrandRussell · 09/06/2017 12:57

" Jeremy Corvyn supporting Sinn Fein showed he is a terrorist sympathiser "
No it didn't.

ShatnersWig · 09/06/2017 12:59

Lakehouse Theresa May's new partners in government have strong historical links with Loyalist paramilitary groups. Specifically, the terrorist group Ulster Resistance was founded by a collection of people who went on to be prominent DUP politicians. Peter Robinson, for example, who was DUP leader and Northern Ireland’s first minister until last year, was an active member of Ulster Resistance. The group’s activities included collaborating with other terrorist groups including the Ulster Volunteer Force, to smuggle arms into the UK, such as RPG rocket launchers.

I'm afraid, as someone of Irish stock myself, I find that troubling.

toooldforthisshirt37 · 09/06/2017 12:59

I am from NI and this party are sanctimonious misogynists who are morally corrupt. Have you heard about the RHI scandal, NAMA etc?

But perfect bedfellows for the Tories.

Buckle up UK and God help us all.

deeedeee · 09/06/2017 13:00

DUP have sting links to Loyalist paramilitary groups. Of course they have rescinded violence, like Sinn Féin, but to deal with them after the vitriol that has been directed at Corbyn for being part of the peace process talks? Breathtaking.

So a Tory government with DUP support? besides the creationist, anti gay marriage, anti abortion...People often talk about what it would take for Sinn Féin to take their seats at Westminster. Often they talk rot.

The political context in the north of Ireland is fascinating. Sinn Féin with a strong performance in the Westminster and Assembly elections are able to prevent any administration forming.

Their position in the Republic allows them to pressurise both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, the two larger parties. That pressure may play into the Irish government using or threatening to use its veto over a Brexit deal.
I think that there is a real possibility that concessions made by the Conservatives to the DUP may force Sinn Féin into a position where they consider taking their seats.

They will do this to defend the interests of nationalists in the north. Bringing down a DUP-supported Tory government in pursuit of the unity of Ireland is one of the very few ways Sinn Féin could convince their supporters that taking their seats was acceptable.

Do I need to point out yet again that from the 80s, John Major's government were in secret talks with the IRA leadership talks that were taking place in the direct aftermath of the Warrington bombing, and which led directly to the peace process while JM was saying publicly that the mere idea of talking to the IRA turned his stomach?

SaorAlbaGuBrath · 09/06/2017 13:01

So you missed the bit about her toadying up to the Saudis and selling arms to them did you? You know, the Saudis who are arming ISIS?

YokoReturns · 09/06/2017 13:01

YANBU

BUT

Isn't TM looking to rule by minority government with the 'support' of the DUP? In which case, this is exactly the same arrangement they've always had between the two parties.
