This is the best outcome by miles. No hard brexit. (The city now predicts soft Brexit or even no Brexit!!!) No more crazy ideas by either side. Compromise. Tories given a good slap in the face for this stupid election.

This is the first election day in a long time with a good result!

Especially you Mary

GavelRavel · 09/06/2017 07:14

I am absolutely pmsl today. Nobody likes complacency and arrogance and Theresa May has had that made very clear. As someone said on Twitter, this election has been like asking to interview for your own job and then really fucking up the interview. And fair play to old Corbyn, the man is teflon..Even his own party were trying to get rid off him not that long ago and now Labour have got more seats than either of his predecessors.

Clandestino · 09/06/2017 07:14

Sleepless night but oh so interesting. Wonder if Boris gets his wet dream fulfilled. If yes, I can see Macron and Merkel laughing on their way to negotiation rooms.

The80sweregreat · 09/06/2017 07:14

Dont know who said it ( was on guardian website) but Cameron took a gamble and now May took a gamble - running a country isnt a casino! so very true. they only have themselves to blame.

TotallyConkers · 09/06/2017 07:14

As I said on another thread a hung parliament is the worst outcome. A majority (either cons or labour) would have been better as the instability in politics and the economy is bad for everyone irrespective of which side you voted for.

twofingerstoEverything · 09/06/2017 07:15

People who think a hung parliament is a good thing, really need to give themselves a damn good shake. We do NOT need the instability that causes. It's the very last thing we need.
This is actually hilarious, given the instability the Brexit vote caused and TM's insistence on ignoring 48% of the population while pursuing the hardest of hard Brexits. Giving her an increased mandate would have pushed the country off a cliff.

Scottishgirl85 · 09/06/2017 07:16

I'm very pleased as it will soften brexit, however I think it is a national embarrassment. The clock is ticking on A50 and we have no idea what government will lead it. The world is watching and laughing at us. The country voted for brexit and then panicked when they saw what it really meant. I was an avid remainer.

roundaboutthetown · 09/06/2017 07:16

I'm happy with the result - fed up with all the bullying of those who want their way or the highway and insisting that Brexit is more important than health, education, social welfare and any other public service going. No way did people want to vote for "the only thing that's important is Brexit." The young are a big reason for Labour's massive gains, anyway, and the referendum probably would not have gone the way it went if more young people had voted then, too. Time for politicians to stop shitting on young people because they "don't bother to vote," and time to stop pretending everything else can be put on hold while we stuff up in Europe, because that's another way of just stuffing up, generally. I'd rather stuff up like this than like that.

Grumpbum · 09/06/2017 07:16

I'm happy although just a little concerned TM will resign and somehow we will end up with BoJo in charge

annielouise · 09/06/2017 07:16

It's better than May in charge. It's stopped her and the Tories in their tracks. To a lot of us that is cause to be happy. The arrogance of her was astounding.

Oblomov17 · 09/06/2017 07:17

I'm not so sure it's that great. Weak government? Another election soon? How does this provide stability? Or a strong negotiating brexit table?

beepbeepimasheep · 09/06/2017 07:18

I think that there should not be another election, it's a ridiculous additional cost. Somehow a government needs to be cobbled together formed out of this mess.

Riversleep · 09/06/2017 07:18

People said the same thing in 2010 and it was a very stable government. The Lib Dems, whatever people thought about tuition fees held back the worst excesses of the Tories, as we have seen since. The only problem is that there is no party that will join with them to moderate them.

Alfieisnoisy · 09/06/2017 07:19

Delighted with it.

The country have sent a clear message to the Conservatives. That message is "you made cuts to vital services, people have suffered and yes we HAVE noticed. We also noticed that at the same time the rich have got richer".

I volunteer with vulnerable people and I have seen the impact of the cuts.

Jeremy Corbyn has achieved the kind of success his detractors will never be able to emulate. There are people out there who STILL believe in caring for others and who don't trust the Conservatives to deliver the kind of budget which will help.

Are you talking to Teresa May? Confused

Panda81 · 09/06/2017 07:20

I don't think it's a good thing. I think it's better than having TM.

@allegretto but chances are, even if May resigns, it will still be a Tory leader?

histinyhandsarefrozen · 09/06/2017 07:21

Apparently hard brexit was the will of the people and everyone should lie down and let them trample over us for the next thirty years rather than have 'uncertainty' Hmm

sparechange · 09/06/2017 07:21

We are about to get the DUP in power

Anyone who thinks this is a remotely good thing, or to be celebrated, knows nothing about politics and/or is quite thick

metalmum15 · 09/06/2017 07:23

FlyingMonkey I've read reports this morning that Amber Rudd may be heading to the top....only rumours though. From BBC news, bigwigs are certain TM will resign.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 09/06/2017 07:23

There will be another election before the end of the year.

I fear the instability this will cause to the financial markets etc will be awful.

@allegretto but chances are, even if May resigns, it will still be a Tory leader?

Yes. They are the only ones in a position to form a government with the help of DUP. The figures for the others don't add up.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 07:25

I am so very proud of the younger generation who seem to have mobilised after the referendum result the majority did not want

Well done..your voice is being heard! Even if you hate the result rejoice in the fact that so many participated in democracy.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 09/06/2017 07:26

PS politics graduate here...errmm not thick....and very very happy spare

allegretto · 09/06/2017 07:27

@allegretto but chances are, even if May resigns, it will still be a Tory leader?

Yes, but as far as Brexit is concerned anything is better than TM. She called this election for Brexit but completely failed to tell us what her intentions were, other than it seemed like it was going to be a hard Brexit (despite almost half the population voting to remain in the referendum). I would hope that anyone else would be forced to take that into account!

youarenotkiddingme · 09/06/2017 07:27

Ironic that UKIP got Brexit their main policy party - yet now they don't have any MP's.

TM wanted snap election for a bigger majority to support her hard Brexit - she now has no majority.

So what now?

Hope TM quits. Hopefully BJ does not get elected in.

I wish some of the Tory cabinet members who have been pushed or quit due to TM were still around. I'm not a fan of Tory but at least they were seeing candidates.

shinyredbus · 09/06/2017 07:28

Weak government? Nose diving pound? Markets crashing? Yet another election on the table? Yeah sure - hung parliament is the best Confused
