That's it really; MN seems to be overwhelmingly Labour leaning and that's not obviously indicative of the country as a whole, and I'm under the impression that MN covers a very wide social/ economic spectrum so you'd think it would be more representative of the electorate a s a whole
Rational non insulting reasons would be good

It's not offensive to point that out. Unless you want to be all outraged

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:47

My.last post was to cross

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/06/2017 14:47

sqwosh I agree that May and the Tories have not run a particularly great campaign.
But to the victor his spoils and all that.

Plus I have little doubt that the Tories will properly assess and just get leaner and sharper.

But it's Labour who desperately need to do this. If they cannot make significant gains in the current political and economic climate then they're doing something Very Wrong.

But as I say, I won't hold my breath. I've a feeling that consolidating power within the party is far more important to JC, JM and Momentum.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:48

"Ken Livingstone has been suspended for endless trivialisation of the Holocaust and an obsession with Hitler,"
Ken Livingston does not represent the "left" though, and has rightly been suspended. Some of his quotes are also massively taken out of context.
Every single lefty I know finds anti-semetic views abhorrent.

Or does some comments by some Tories mean we can tar all of them with the same brush as well- after all fairs fair right?
, how about the totally disgusting views touted by some Kippers/BF etc - but "they're noat all racist"

"lots of Momentum supporters have been suspended for circulating images that wouldn't have been out of place in Der Stuermer,"

Proof please.

"JC's friends in Hamas called the Holocaust "a lie invented by the Zionists", and he himself had a long association with a known Holocaust denier called Paul Eisen. "

  1. JC is not a "freind" of Hammas
  2. proof please

"When JC was working for Iranian TV, do any of you truly think he took the chance to question them about their treatment of women and gays, let alone Holocaust denial (Tehran has hosted conferences on this subject)"

How do you know he didn't??

And to throw it back, how is TMs unwavering support of the Saudis not worse??

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:48

They have made gains, and will

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:49

And your comments about the left and holocaust denial were truly disgusting.

And I notice you didn't answer my point that the right wing suppressed womens and gays rights for as long as they could.
Even in the last 20 years.

But keep picking on Corbyn while TMS stuff goes completely undebated.

OCSockOrphanage · 07/06/2017 14:49

I'd like a financially competent, pragmatic, moderate government with some integrity, please. How should I vote?

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:49

OMFG.

I meant a frikking forum
Keyboard specially adapted for mumsnet users. There was NO DISABLIST context.

"Adapted" is a perfectally acceptable word to use in common vernacular and in the context I intended. Stop trying to add a PA false context to my post to suit your own narratives.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:51

Lana you are so right

Some Tories need to hold themselves to their own standards they are trying to set for left wingers.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:53

I agree that May and the Tories have not run a particularly great campaign.
But to the victor his spoils and all that.

Yes winning is certainly the main aim and the whole point of the thing and in some ways I think it's right that the Tories win and are forced to take responsibility for the Brexit shit show that they chose to launch. That may just be my pessimism talking though, as in my right mind I of course want the best possible leading EU negotiations. And I'm afraid the Tory Brexit team have shown themselves to be utterly unsuited to this task.

it's Labour who desperately need to do this. If they cannot make significant gains in the current political and economic climate then they're doing something Very Wrong.

I agree.

OlennasWimple · 07/06/2017 14:53

Dunno, OC, but when you find out please let me know?

(I'm hoping that the Lib Dems make a modest resurgence this time and re-group in time for the next GE, but I know that is optimistic. As is a new Lib-Lab pact when the current Labour party completes its implosion into oblivion)

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:53

some tories

Which ones? The "cunts"?

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:53

'best possible people leading EU negotiations' that should say.

LadyinCement · 07/06/2017 14:53

Some posters have trumpeted Noam Chomsky as a suitable inspiration for Labour. He has said that he defends the right of people to deny the Holocaust. Careful choice of words, but nonetheless...

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:54

He is Jewish

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:56

The ones who goad and then act all faux outraged when people get annoyed. HtH

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 14:56

It certainly used to be when I joined about 10 years ago but it's not now.

Lots of opinions from far left to ukip and that's great.

It's a far more interesting site now.

it's not just left 30 something new mums left wing professional graduate women from Nirth London.

No disrespect to them by the way it's just much better now with a huge selection of posters of all ages and sexes.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:56

Noam Chomsky is Jewish!!

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:56

Today 14:56 @TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin

The ones who goad and then act all faux outraged when people get annoyed. HtH"

The irony.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:57

In answer to flumpernickel

They are also usually found in company of others of similar ilk

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:57

X post with Monkey!!

JassyRadlett · 07/06/2017 14:57

"Adapted" is a perfectally acceptable word to use in common vernacular and in the context I intended. Stop trying to add a PA false context to my post to suit your own narratives.

Total overreaction to a question about a phrase ('specially adapted', not just adapted, don't be coy) that more than one regular poster in this forum hadn't encountered outside the sphere of disability before.

Interested in what 'narratives' you think I'm pushing. Yours appears to be 'anyone who has the temerity to question me is attacking me, is against all my beliefs and definitely has an ulterior motive.' Must be quite tiring.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:57

LoL at someone trying to say Noam Chomsky is pro Holocaust.

SerfTerf · 07/06/2017 14:58

I tend to read MN more at election times, so that might colour my impressions.

I think there's a large, loud, lefty faction on MN and also a large, outspoken and unapologetic right wing faction.

Sometimes particular threads become dominated by one group or the other, (not so much overtly Political threads but "issues" threads about NHS, welfare or tax for example.

What is quite striking about MN is the culture of ( some people, not all) posting as though obviously the poster's way of thinking is the one true correct way. (Although the whole internet was similar for the referendum).

So if you happen to read a succession of threads of one type, I can see you'd get a certain impression. I suspect it depends on what type of threads interest you (and the bias of noticing views that differ from your own more).

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:59

And LadyInCement just to reiterate...
As a Jewish man, he was talking about defending freedom of speech.
You know like "I may not agree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it"
