to wonder why MN is so let wing

That's it really; MN seems to be overwhelmingly Labour leaning and that's not obviously indicative of the country as a whole, and I'm under the impression that MN covers a very wide social/ economic spectrum so you'd think it would be more representative of the electorate a s a whole
Rational non insulting reasons would be good

Being a die hard left winger, it certainly isn't an insult to me. However, there are some views espoused by posters day to day that aren't left wing, despite their supposed leanings. But come election time, it is "cool" and "acceptable" to be anti establishment. And at that point I wonder how much they do day to day to alleviate the issues they pontificate on, and how much is mere 'virtue signalling'.

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:37

notanew

Agree.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:38

It will be interesting to see if the loss of this election brings a proper assessment as to how this campaign was run.

To be quite honest all sides need to take a long hard look at how their respective campaigns were run. I have no doubt the Tories will win, but I don't think they can deny that they have run a disastrous campaign that has really dented May's reputation. She won't be in No 10 for long.

malificent7 · 07/06/2017 14:38

This current goverment are funding lots of social workers as they know that their policies will damage the poor and that well educated, middle class people can mop up the mess whilst getting paid a good salary.... hence keeping the poor down at heel... again.

CrossWordSalad · 07/06/2017 14:38

I think some Tories love being called cunts so they can get on their high horse, seriously. I have never given them satisfaction though. The faux outrage is pathetic

Oh, if Tories get called cunts, it's their fault is it? Interesting theory Hmm

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:39

But by use of that very phrase you are shutting down debate.

Name calling is not helpful- from either fucking side

And calling someone a virue signaller is an insult.

And I agree, some of these people need to put their money where their mouth is.

BertrandRussell · 07/06/2017 14:39

I have reported SamG76's post.

I can only assume that she is unwell.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:39

Yes some of them encourage it deliberately.

The mere fact of being a Tory doesnt make one an automatic cunt though and I have never said it does.

CrossWordSalad · 07/06/2017 14:39

Some Tories on here would enjoy it.

I think you need to stop now TheMonkey , you are starting to be really offensive.

samG76 · 07/06/2017 14:40

I must have been imagining that:

Ken Livingstone has been suspended for endless trivialisation of the Holocaust and an obsession with Hitler,

lots of Momentum supporters have been suspended for circulating images that wouldn't have been out of place in Der Stuermer,

JC's friends in Hamas called the Holocaust "a lie invented by the Zionists", and he himself had a long association with a known Holocaust denier called Paul Eisen.

When JC was working for Iranian TV, do any of you truly think he took the chance to question them about their treatment of women and gays, let alone Holocaust denial (Tehran has hosted conferences on this subject)? Answers on a postcard, please

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 14:40

lanakanes my OP was about why MN appears to be so left wing. I'm not particularly interested in debating the various parties' policies at the moment and never said I was.

Judge a man by the company he keeps

Do you not judge women by the company they keep?

to wonder why MN is so let wing
LapinR0se · 07/06/2017 14:41

I always have and always will vote Tory. I agree this site is incredibly left wing and not a true reflection of the voting public.
I suppose like attracts like and so left-wingers feel at home and welcome here and the situation is self perpetuating.

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:41

Oh squoosh come on, read her whole post! Hmm

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:42

Sorry, did I miss Thatcher being on this ballot?

JassyRadlett · 07/06/2017 14:42

An adapted keyboard With built in swear anti tory words/terms/sound bytes and emojis, but if you want to assume that because I dont vote labour I am automatically insulting disabled people then you cannot be helped or reasoned with.

Thank you. I had not heard it in that context before, and only in the context of disability, so I'm glad it wasn't meant that way. That's why I asked, reasonably politely, if it was a bizarre disablist insult, or something else.

As I said, I vote neither Conservative nor Labour, so your own assumptions could use a little revisiting. Not everyone who questions you or disagrees with you (nb: I have only done one of those so far) is 'someone who cannot be helped or reasoned with' which is an interesting approach to promoting nuanced debate.

OP: not offended at all. Why is that such a go to insult these days, anyway?

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 14:42

We get a good cross section of debate on here - it can get too personal because it's 'anonymous' - I remember lovelybath getting told that she was a turkey...

Some of the vehemence is worse than in real life as you don't know people's circumstances - there are some huge Corbyn supporters I've seen on the politics threads who are living in very hard personal circumstances and you wouldn't know that unless you spend too much time on mumsnet reading many threads, as I do.

I've been told I should never have been a member of the labour party as I'm not proper labour (having been a moderate blair/brown/miliband supporter for 20 years but strongly dislike Corbyn's policies and team).

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:43

Sorry, did I miss Thatcher being on this ballot?

No but funny how Thatcher being a pal with Pinochet was of absolutely no concern to her supporters.

notanewuser · 07/06/2017 14:43

as for holocaust denial in the labour party - a quick google shows lots of articles. Guardian, Jerusalem Post, Spectator - the whole gamut. Any link anyone want in particular? Even old Ken himself keeps coming up with crackpot ideas - there is even a website that counts the days since he mentioned Hitler.

The problem lies in the recent resurgence of Trotskyist elements. There is always an element of jewish conspiracy in the internationalists.

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 14:43

Why is what such a go to insult?

OP posts:
CaptainBrickbeard · 07/06/2017 14:44

There are far more accusations of left wingers and Remainers insulting right wingers/Leavers than there are actually insulting comments. Lefties on here are continually told to grow up, called deluded, called ludicrous and accused of hysteria. The insults go both ways and they aren't dignifying either side.

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:45

'Thank you. I had not heard it in that context before, and only in the context of disability, so I'm glad it wasn't meant that way'

Neither had I.

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 14:45

Also i think there is a fairly equal amount of people from both sides of the political spectrum who sadly use insults and meaningful sound bites. As someone said above debate the policies.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:46

Crossword you don't think there are goaders around?

JassyRadlett · 07/06/2017 14:46

Why is what such a go to insult?

Asking or saying that someone is offended (or pretending to be) when they have given no indication that they are.

It comes across as at attempt to shut down discussion, though perhaps that's not the intent.
