to wonder why MN is so let wing

That's it really; MN seems to be overwhelmingly Labour leaning and that's not obviously indicative of the country as a whole, and I'm under the impression that MN covers a very wide social/ economic spectrum so you'd think it would be more representative of the electorate a s a whole
Rational non insulting reasons would be good

The overwhleming tone of the whole election debate has been

fucking selfish tories (I am quoting fomr a threa this morning)
wonderful save the world labour.

thread after thread with titles like:
Why would anyone who loves their children vote Tory?
Everyone should read this to know what those despicable tories are up to.

I am not a tory voter, or a labour one this time. But I am appalled by the tone and the way the left wing are attackign the right wing on her and apparently it is OK to make horrible personal remarks, and tell people they are stupid and don't care.
One post this morning virtually accused all tories of deliberately making life harder for her disbale ds, with such vitriol.

In my experience most people, particularly people prepared to discus things on forums like these, are wanting to vote for what they think will be the best thing for their country. They are not voting selfishly, they are voting for what they think will be the best way.

We disagree over what that way will be, but that doesn't make people heartless bastards, it just means they think the solution is different to you.

So, if I was a tory voter, or right wing in any way, I would not be posting on here

DaveTheDesigner · 07/06/2017 14:25

Many lefties can much more aggressively shouty and self righteous. Therefore they may appear to be the majority. It's an illusion.

witsender · 07/06/2017 14:25

Tbh, a lot of so called left wing chat in here is mere virtue signalling. You often see he same posters espousing left wing views whole also enjoying a good benefit bash. The overwhelming feel on here normally is very small c, benefit scum, middle class yadda yadda. But come election time the mood changes a little.

The country will still wake up blue on Friday though, in more ways than one for some of us.

malificent7 · 07/06/2017 14:25

Lol to the Tories are all at work ( while us lefties are sitting at home watching Jeremy Kyle and/ or dusting our placards off. )

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:26

No strawberry the one further along with lots and lots of links, sources and figures.

I say again Smeaton didn't really help with that first post, joking or no, but the reading in their long follow up post is important, and makes important points.

All it got was an insult "you need to get out more" rather than an attempt to refute or debate or even read the actual post.

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:26

Haha.

Should have seen this crap coming!

"Is that meant to be some kind of bizarre disablist insult? I'm struggling to find more reasonable interpretations, as I've only ever heard the phrase in that sort of context. Hopefully you'll be able to put me right. smile"

No. Its not.

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 14:26

jassley are you really pretending to be insulted by the phrase specially adapted keyboard? Really??

OP posts:
TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:27

I didnt think it was disablist, just lame.

Ah I wondered how long it would take for "virtue signalling" to make an appearence.
Yet another vague insult to try and shut down debate.
Makes it so much easier to ignore people when you convince yourself they are just saying it for the kudos.

Do you mean that you think people couldn't possibly care about others, so they must be saying it to make themselves look good?

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 14:28

I think some Tories love being called cunts so they can get on their high horse no they really don't like being called cunts.

OP posts:
TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:28

OP you would wet your pants with glee if someone called you a C bomb, admit it

squoosh · 07/06/2017 14:29

The phrase 'virtue signalling' must be utterly exhausted being trotted out 100 times a day. Give the poor thing a rest.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:29

You could say "how very dare you look how awful these dreadful lefties are"

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:30

I meant (for those who overthink perfectly reasonable posts)

An adapted keyboard With built in swear anti tory words/terms/sound bytes and emojis, but if you want to assume that because I dont vote labour I am automatically insulting disabled people then you cannot be helped or reasoned with.

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:31

themonkey did you read Smeatonsfirst post?

YogaAndRum · 07/06/2017 14:32

no they really don't like being called cunts.

This really made me laugh (with you, not at you btw). Grin

strawberrygate · 07/06/2017 14:32

the monkey believe me, I wouldn't be gleeful. This may shock you, but there are plenty of people who are genuinely insulted if someone calls them a cunt. Exactly the same as if they hear racist/ disablist language. So don't think you're doing people a favour by using it at them

OP posts:
LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:32

Well if you think media is too left wing, why don't you get in there and debate it?
Not being goady I just don't get it.

When I see something (like this thread) I don't agree with, I wade in and respectfully start a debate.

Why not do the same?
(and if the answer is "I will only get shouted down" - it's not good enough, sorry)
As evidenced by this very thread I have tried and tried to debate with people, but then get accused of goading or "virtue signalling"

If you don't like it- debate it!
It's what strong democracies thrive on.

GetAHaircutCarl · 07/06/2017 14:33

It will be interesting to see if the loss of this election brings a proper assessment as to how this campaign was run.

But I'm not holding my breath.

Flumpernickel · 07/06/2017 14:34
Grin

"no they really don't like being called cunts."

Yep, that's about the crux of it, not sure the tin foil hat brigade need to over think it!

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 14:35

I dont use it at anyone.
But i stand by what I said.
Some Tories on here would enjoy it.

notanewuser · 07/06/2017 14:36

Judge a man by the company he keeps
Corbyn

Yes it was a while ago - but if May was for example happy to address - oh I dont know - an EDL rally - all of us would rightly say she was unfit for office. She didnt by the way but it does shout double standards doesnt it

sleepyowl12 · 07/06/2017 14:36

Some threads seem to have a high proportion of people who support Conservative policies, other threads have more left wing voices, then of course there are those who are more centrist. So I personally see views from across the spectrum being voiced on here.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 07/06/2017 14:36

Oh and strawberry.
Do you fancy having a look at some of the links posted upthread?

Happy to respectfully debate any of them with you.
