To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

So, people are judging her incompetence based on media appearances alone. Nothing else.

No. We're judging her on her incompetence as evidenced by her media appearances.

She's just not in top of her brief.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 09:13

Anyway, Brexit needs to be sorted first and Labour would demolish it!

How so?

Theresa May has made this campaign all about her. She's acting bullish, as if we are going to war with the EU. No, we are negotiating.

This takes charm, intellect, common sense and respect to get the best deal.

Look what happened with David Cameron when he tried to negotiate. He was as arrogant as fuck and got nothing. Funny that 🤔

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 06/06/2017 09:13

If she's that ill then she should not have been standing for an MP

maybe she caught a bug?

explodingkittens · 06/06/2017 09:13

'Destruction of the U.K.'

Hmm

Get a grip. No one buys that scaremongering bullshit any more.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 09:14

She's not on top of her brief
Which you have judged on her media appearances.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2017 09:14

No likely, she's been erratic for a while now. Remember the Nick Ferrari interview?

That was a while ago. A bug would have been gone by now.

waitforitfdear · 06/06/2017 09:14

momkey

Her performances lately have been appalling.

Last night she was slurring her words and was either pissed as a rat or on medication.

'Being ill' is often rye term used for this.

She's a liability and in the past made very racist comments regarding 'West Indian mothers' and said 'mao' did some good things.

It's time she went and it's clear Jeremy has no control or she would have been gone already

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 09:14

I like that macarena, I'd add Kezia Dugdale too, and Burnham.

BartholinsSister · 06/06/2017 09:14

Where's Ed Balls when the Labour Party need him?

0nline · 06/06/2017 09:15

Well I gather she will be on Woman's hour at 10 so it will be interesting to hear.

She's pulled out citing ill health.

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 09:16

Which you have judged on her media appearances.

Yes.

Don't you know the key facts and figures relevant to your job? Don't you prepare for presentations?

Charlotteswigwam · 06/06/2017 09:16

That's not really fair Chardonnay. I don't think it's helpful to speculate on exactly what it is but there are lots of illnesses that can sneak up on someone (for want of a better word). E.g. One of my relatives had a very bad stroke, but prior to that there had been warning signs for two weeks (slight changes of character, forgetfulness etc) which in hindsight were probably mini strokes, but at the time it wasn't clear if they were tiredness/being in a bad mood/illness etc.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 09:17

Don't you know the key facts and figures relevant to your job? Don't you prepare for presentations?

Yes I do.

But it doesn't hinder my ability to do a fucking excellent job

MacarenaFerreiro · 06/06/2017 09:18

Yes I feel very sorry for poor Kez Dugdale. She's struggling hard up here against a rampant SNP and you can almost see the poor women shrivel every time Corbyn/Abbot does something daft. She's articulate and competent. Not so sure about Burnham. I never liked Ed Balls when he was an MP but saw a totally different side to him on Strictly - genuinely nice guy.

Lifegavemelemons · 06/06/2017 09:18

Being a shadow minister doesn't mean you get the job as a shoe in after an election. Never has. If she really is ill, which is the rumour I'm hearing, then she's unlikely to get it at this point.

Not voting the Tories out because of one labour MP is just bonkers and irrational. Look at the facts, look at the policies, look beyond the personalities, make your voting decision based on which party's POLICIES you agree with.

We are not the USA, we don't vote for presidents / personalities. Any individual person in any party can be ousted, have a health issue, go under a bus, at any point. People who voted for Cameron last time got May.

Which policies are the policies we want to be implemented? That's the choice we're making.

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 09:18

No not Burnham Nolottery. He's taken a turn towards fluff himself. He's now anti the prevent strategy and pro group hugs. Good man gone peculiar.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 09:19

Also doing a presentation is a little different to appearing on TV....

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2017 09:20

I'm not speculating, my reply about the bug was because someone else mentioned it.

I agree that illnesses can sneak up, but when the signs are there, it would be reasonable not to go for a very demanding job, at least not for a while.

I never said she was ill or anything else, but I think that if she was she should retire from standing as an MP as soon as she can.

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 09:21

I don't know, if group hugs and don't look back in anger will help all of Manchester unite against terrorism, that seems a good outcome to me. Prevention strategies will go on, dropping a brand that's become toxic is fine to me.

We can call counter terrorism something new and fluffy like unite :)

sexymuthafunker · 06/06/2017 09:21

Well said lifegavemelemons

ChinaRose · 06/06/2017 09:21

wow so much defense on MN for such incompetence. Roll on Thursday, bye bye JC!!

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 09:21

Yes I do.

But it doesn't hinder my ability to do a fucking excellent job

Well no, doing your job wouldn't hinder your ability to do your job. I think we can all agree on that. Shame Abbott didn't get the same memo.

I'll still vote for them. But this stepford apologia for crapness just makes me redouble my prayers for an urgent coup.

Cherryflamingo · 06/06/2017 09:22

Do people seriously think that if labour win, the MPs who deserted JC wouldn't be crawling back for their place in the cabinet?

Of course they would. I doubt that DA would be appointed Home Secretary. She's certainly not going to stop me voting labour.

Abitofaproblem · 06/06/2017 09:22

In fact, I propose Chuka Umuna, Yvette Cooper, Margaret Beckett and Hillary Benn as the new "Gang of Four".

Then the dilemma wouldn't exist, I will vote Labour. As it is I am voting Lib Dem.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 09:22

I have to say, to me she looks obviously unwell and I wish she would be honest about it. That doesn't make her a liability, in my opinion, for these reasons:

  1. All MPs take advice from numerous bodies, organisations, experts, and they have a team of people around them to make decisions.
  2. There are a large pool of Labour representatives that could do her job very well. Those saying there aren't - I wonder what you are basing that on as it does not reflect reality as I see it.
  3. Her role in the Shadow Cabinet can be easily replaced. I would be very happy with a number of other Labour MPs taking her place.

I came on here just today because I am pregnant, due in October with my first child, and I worry about a country who calls out Abbott consistently and does not ask compassionate questions, whilst men who bungle the figures and all the lying Tory women (May, Rudd, Brady, etc.) who simply won't answer a question are not mentioned.

This is Abbott's counterpart in the Conservative government. Watch what she does from about 0.32 seconds in. Why is this not in the news?

I want my child to grow up in a country that does not fund and support terrorism, one that tries to make peace in the World and does not want nuclear warfare. The debates have shown a sinister side to Tory/UKIP supporters and the media are consistently disappointing.

What about the Tory MP who said woman's promiscuity plays a role in their being raped? What about the Tory MP who has been charged with the crime of election fraud? What about the Tory MP who said she was pleased that food banks exist and tried to have a disabled woman thrown out of her hustings?

Please consider what you read in the papers and who funds those papers. I do not want my child growing up in a World that believes Tory lies and will drag us into a censored state with no freedom of speech.

This election is important and will decide our future as a family in the UK. I'm not saying any country is any better overall, but at least we wouldn't have to watch the heartbreak.
