To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

Presumably there will be a few shocks and unexpected surprises in the outcome of the election (there always are, and a JC victory would definitely involve a lot of people getting elected who weren't expected to win their seats). Which gives JC ample opportunity to shuffle around his options for his cabinet, and move DA into something like party leader or chief whip

Saucery · 06/06/2017 20:15

"Do you still want to add colour to the illness story?".

Wow. Mendacious and clueless about cyber security. Such a good choice for Home Secretary. Hmm

GrumpyOldBag · 06/06/2017 20:18

Diane Abbott isn't "running for Home Secretary".

She is currently Shadow Home Secretary. If Labour wins control of parliament in this election, I'd be amazed if she's given the HS role in JC's cabinet.

Justanotherlurker · 06/06/2017 20:18

To be fair, non of the front/shadow bench have a clue about cyber security, Amber Rudd wanted to ban encryption until someone whispered in her ear.

Agree with your other point though.

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2017 20:20

Does her reply mean that she does have diabetes? Some were suggesting on another thread that her behaviour looked like untreated diabetes.

Justanotherlurker · 06/06/2017 20:21

She is currently Shadow Home Secretary. If Labour wins control of parliament in this election, I'd be amazed if she's given the HS role in JC's cabinet.

Then she shouldn't be sidelined now then considering she is a liability, at this point in time we are voting for her to be Home Sec, that's all that matters

PortiaCastis · 06/06/2017 20:23

Also she has to be re-elected as an MP and Labour has to win the election before all this Home Sec stuff can come into question

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2017 20:24

Who are the Tory voters voting to be Home Secretary given that Amber Rudd might lose her seat?

I think placing any bets on cabinet positions before a general election is risky!

ffauxlivia · 06/06/2017 20:28

In 2010 Chris Grayling was running as Shadow Home Secretary. He was a liability (supported the Christian B&B owners refusing to take the gay couple), and so after the election Cameron appointed May. So it's not unheard of. And yes I know that was a coalition and there was a lot of reshuffling to get the Lib Dem positions in, but still - the replacement was a Tory.

lazycrazyhazy · 06/06/2017 20:36

Diane Abott fails because she hasn't had media training

She was/is? a permanent guest with Michael Portillo on This Week with Andrew Neil for years. She has more media experience than most politicians and a Cambridge Uni education - from a disadvantaged background.

Sadly I think she is unwell. She is still popular in her constituency- i have been there all week and there are posters in many windows - I really think she has lost it, sadly.

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 20:38

i return to the earlier point: you can talk about economic growth - government borrowing for investments in things such as infrastructure (HS2?) are supposed to help the private sector, but the reality of the Corbyn manifesto for the private sector firms is that firms facing increases in their costs from the minimum wage hike, and if they don't qualify for an exemption, from the Corporation tax increase.

It's likely some of those firms are going to have to lay people off or fold altogether. That's not going to create growth.

Saucery · 06/06/2017 20:40

If those emails are true she is colluding with backing out of media interviews and considering exaggerating an existing health condition to gain sympathy for doing so. Disgusting behaviour.

Justanotherlurker · 06/06/2017 20:41

Who are the Tory voters voting to be Home Secretary given that Amber Rudd might lose her seat?

Hopefully Rudd does lose her seat as she is dreadful, however Abbot is in a very safe seat, it is obvious there would be a reshuffle if labour win but the shadow cabinet as a whole is generally viewed as representing the party line during the election cycle, the fact she is a liability is damaging to labour.

Justanotherlurker · 06/06/2017 20:47

It's likely some of those firms are going to have to lay people off or fold altogether. That's not going to create growth.

It's also very likely that a majority of those companies push the costs onto the consumer, shrinkflation has already taken hold, interest rates are at an all time low because of the reliance on asset prices and cheap credit, its a globalised economy, it's not as simple as "just tax the rich more!!"

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 20:49

Rudd did describe Hastings (her constituency) as 'a bit depressing' but she got away with it in 2015 - i know there's been a lot of campaigning around the quote:

“You get people who are on benefits, who prefer to be on benefits by the seaside. They’re not moving down here to get a job, they’re moving down here to have easier access to friends and drugs and drink.”

MargeryFenworthy · 06/06/2017 20:51

I am appalled and, as a black woman, lament that she is such a poor role model.

sexymuthafunker · 06/06/2017 20:53

I'm going to vote for JC but have to admit that I have always found DA to be extremely irritating.

However, after watching the interview I would say she's clearly not well.

People are mean. But then so is our current government Sad

Justanotherlurker · 06/06/2017 20:55

Rudd did describe Hastings (her constituency) as 'a bit depressing'

I really don't like Rudd but I don't think that's a solely a tory issue, Thornberry isn't very "understanding" either.

just

Never liked the woman but take no pleasure in saying that.

Sostenueto · 06/06/2017 21:18

Omg! Seeing all of your comments I am not surprised that she is ill. Even if DA was a drunk it is an actual illness. I feel that attacking someone in this way just shows what an uncaring society we have become. We are supposed to be intelligent people on here. I am sick of personal attacks on almost every thread on mmsnet.

Ankleswingers · 06/06/2017 21:20

She is not unwell, she is totally incompetent and way, way out of her depth.

She was totally unable to answer basic questions that she was being asked from the Harris report.

It has been horrifically embarrassing car crash interview after interview.

This is why Emily Thornbury has been wheeled out.

Diane Abbott was meant to do two more live interviews today and was photographed at Oxford Circus this morning on her phone.
It was then announced that she was unable to do the interviews with illness cited as the reason.

What a load of shite. The real reason is because she is such a liability she has been hidden away until after the election, in the hope that people forget how incompetent she actually is.

You couldn't make it up Shock

MamaMary · 06/06/2017 21:24

Agreed she is not ill. Just incompetent. Both her car crash interviews have been a case of her simply not having done even minimal preparation.

She's just lazy and incompetent. Not being mean, but if she's putting herself out there as a potential senior cabinet minister, she needs to be prepared to answer a few basic questions. What an embarrassment she is.
