To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

mummymeister I don't believe your either/or scenarios. I believe that the unexpected Corbyn boost changes a lot of things, not least the view of his Corbyn's PLP who are probably as surprised as the rest of us. Abbot is not performing at all. I would imagine Corbyn/McDonnel/Watson and everyone else in Labour HQ is pissed off at her not pulling out. I imagine it is still up to her. Liam Fox - who should be explaining Tory Brexit policy to the nation - probably doesn't get that option. He has to do what he is told.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2017 14:23

There's no need to review, Make.

We're not revising for A levels, we can make up our own mind.
I don't need your bullet points. No one here does.

ImperialBlether · 06/06/2017 14:23

She has been dreadful, but now she's slurring and it's clear she has no memory whatsoever.

And yes, it is dereliction of duty not to take her off the job.

TreeTop7 · 06/06/2017 14:23

Her constituents must be wondering what on earth is up with her.

I hope she is ok. But I also hope never to see her in a Cabinet role.

Sostenueto · 06/06/2017 14:24

I think that Dianne Abbot has worked really hard for the party and perhaps JC thinks it's reward to keep her on front line despite what looks like to me as an illness that is a progressive one. The abuse she suffers both on and off line and stress is not helping, but she may have decided she would like to see the campaign out as she clearly loves the party and us dedicated. I would do the same for something I believe in.

Saucery · 06/06/2017 14:24

It's actually rather insulting that someone so incompetent is Shadow Home Secretary when bet there are others in the party who would do better at it. Other women. Other WOC.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/06/2017 14:25

Dandandandandandandan You think people dislike her because she's a WOC

I know she was reviled routinely for years for being female, black and working class. I suspect that would rub off on me over time if I'd been subjected to it.

Disagree with her views by all mean (I often do). I agree something seems to have changed in her recently and I've no idea what the root is.

However if you honestly believe none of her treatment over the years has anything to do with racism or sexism then we have different memories. Some of the language used about Abbot and the tiny handful of other BME MPs by MPs and even the broadsheets would shame UKIP. I can think of many white male politicians (of all stripes) who have far more to criticise ethically and on hypocrisy grounds but who barely get a mention.

user1487175389 · 06/06/2017 14:25

mummymeister that's not very inclusive of you. Why shouldn't someone with mental health problems be able to work if they want to? Of she felt unwell enough to go on sick leave I imagine that would be her decision and hers alone.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/06/2017 14:25

Her constituents don't have to vote for her.

Other candidates are available.

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2017 14:27

Where has Watson been this election, I don't think I've seen him.

C8H10N4O2 · 06/06/2017 14:28

iLoveBanff The illness must've been very sudden indeed, she looked fine shortly before

I've no idea what the issue really is - I was simply reporting that she hadn't made it to WH and the reason given. The Evening Standard not exactly in her fan club either.

Like I said - I've no idea what is wrong with her or why she seems to have changed performance wise. Illness would be a credible reason. 'You don't look sick' doesn't mean she isn't - I'm disabled, sometimes very ill, but you wouldn't know it to look at me or hear me speak.

waitforitfdear · 06/06/2017 14:28

She also told Andrew Neale that Mao did 'more good than harm' and defended her hypocrscy by saying 'West Indian mothers would go to the wall for their kids'

She should have been sacked then.

And no she wasn't 'ill' them either just an idiot.

ForalltheSaints · 06/06/2017 14:30

I expect that the Sun and Daily Mail will mention Diane Abbott as a reason not to vote Labour either tomorrow or Thursday.

mummymeister · 06/06/2017 14:31

citroen - do you sit next to Make?

yet again following the old tired Labour line.

Paragraph 1 - I wont answer the question you put but instead Paragraph 2 - here is what the Tories are doing wrong.

Its like you post from a script.

Sostenuto - really you think they know she is car crash TV and they are doing this to her to be nice? Isnt it actually a bit abusive for an employer to knowingly put his/her employee into a position like this when they are ill?

waitforitfdear · 06/06/2017 14:32

Well I have read neither of those papers as they are comics and I have a brain but it's a very valid reason to not trust labour under Corbyn leadership isn't it?

C8H10N4O2 · 06/06/2017 14:32

mummymeister C8H10N4O2 oh you mean like Jewish MP's - Labour Jewish MP's - being subjected to anti Semitism and the party standing back and doing nothing?

I've no idea why you are shifting goal points here rather than rereading my actual first post but I think the response of the LP to the antisemitism incidents was woefully inadequate.

TulipsInAJug · 06/06/2017 14:34

I don't believe she's ill. But if she is, how shockingly negligent to allow her to carry on in the public eye.

TearsOnTheGround · 06/06/2017 14:35

I wouldn't vote for her to be in any sort of power due to her racist remarks she's made several times, then tries to deny/defend those remarks when called up on it in interviews. She's bloody awful!

Two4One2017 · 06/06/2017 14:37

She's just pulled out of the Evening Standard hustings tonight. Shadow Home Sec, at a time when the country is investigating 2 terrorist attacks....and she's gone to ground.

She's applying for the job to lead our security from Friday for the next 5 years. And she's said NOTHING about the attack on Saturday.

Ill or not, she's incompetent and JC looks weak for not getting rid of her. Trouble is, there's no-one left to replace her. 172 members of the PLP have said they won't work for him. Sadly for us, that includes all the grown ups in the party.

HappydaysArehere · 06/06/2017 14:37

Agree Diane Abbot and Johnson are about as awful as each other.

citroenpresse · 06/06/2017 14:37

mummy why do you think anybody is following a 'line'. Don't you have views or beliefs of your own? I don't know what your paragraph stuff is but could you answer MY question? Was it you that posted JC confirming his front bench? Can't find any reference to that anywhere. He is being v. noncommittal which given Abbot's performance is hardly surprising. Personally she has 0 chance of a front bench position.

LadyinCement · 06/06/2017 14:38

I'm no fan but looking at that picture of her at the tube station this morning I feel sorry for her. It was obvious she was heading off to the interview and got intercepted and told to back off. Now, if it was Line of Duty or some such someone could tell who the caller was. All most intriguing.

mummymeister · 06/06/2017 14:38

user1487175389 employers have a duty of care to their employees. if she has mental health issues then is the best thing for that sticking her in front of the cameras?

No you cant get away from it. either she is well and incompetent or unwell and should not have been put in that position by her boss.

citroenpresse · 06/06/2017 14:39

TwoForOne who is replacing her? That seems to be the 'new way' of politics.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 06/06/2017 14:40

Trying to gain political capital from someone's illness is nasty.
