To think people who would otherwise vote for corbyn may not because of Diane Abbott?

Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

I honestly think she is ill. She's changed drastically over the last few years. She always used to be quite quick on political shows even if she did have a touch of foot in mouth syndrome.

These days I can see she probably struggles to commit things to memory. I think it's most likely a medical condition or a side effect of meds

GladAllOver · 06/06/2017 10:37

BBC report at 10.32:

We were expecting this argument to really kick off during the Woman’s Hour debate this morning, when Labour's Diane Abbott was set to take on Home Secretary Amber Rudd. However, Ms Abbott pulled out at the last moment.

It's not the first time she’s been absent and not feeling well at a key moment. You might remember the Brexit vote in the Commons when she couldn’t take part.

Oblomov17 · 06/06/2017 10:37

There was a thread about her interview. It got deleted. Suspect this one will too.
She is a liability.

LadyinCement · 06/06/2017 10:39

Whether she's a chicken or really ill, this is not an appropriate person to have as Home Secretary.

mummymeister · 06/06/2017 10:39

purist oh look! leftnet strikes again and pulls a thread criticising Labour.

wait a bit and they will pull this one as well.

good old MNHQ doing as they are told by the Labour Party.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:39

Yes I have a degree in International Politics and Business and I run three businesses in my town of Bromley, Kent, which is a conservative stronghold. I've voted Conservative before but I have seen what they are doing to the local economy and it is being ruined. The only ones who benefit are the corporations.

I know 'more money' isn't the answer - but I think fairer taxation of the top 5% who earn more wealth than the poorest 20% is disgraceful.

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 10:39

Theresa May ..... brushes off blatant sexism from the likes of the daily mail.

She has faced far worse, in fact deeply misogynistic and crude, sexism from the Guardian. Perhaps people on the left, Guardian readers and the like, should be challenging that.

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 10:40

I had hoped that if TM had a massive majority she might think the unthinkable and start this off.

That is not the Tory plan at all.

Slowly kill NHS. Farm out gradually to companies they have ties with.

Profit!

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 10:40

And what is your point @CrossWordSalad?

She was asked about it and laughed it off instead of calling it as it is.

CountessYgritte · 06/06/2017 10:40

Agree. He needs to get rid of her. She is incompetent and not fit to be a politician. We need driven, informed, intelligent, proactive people. Not ones who repeat words said to them and any give details about a report giving recommendations to increase national security. She has lost them the election.

Maybe she is a secret ToryGrin

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:40

@makeourfuture - EXACTLY!!!

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 10:42

There was a thread about her interview. It got deleted. Suspect this one will too.

The OP of the other thread and many of the posts were speculating about DA's health or personal issues. This one is discussing her interview and the political ramifications which is, in my view, completely different.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 10:42

Just had a look at the cartoon. Not sure how it is sexist to suggest that Theresa May is in bed with Donald trump.

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 10:43

I'm not against the individual tax rises - but I am against what they're being spent on.

Free tuition is a blanket policy at the expense of the other 50% - it could be spent on earlier education to improve outcomes for all. Some free tuition for degrees where the societal benefit outweighs the benefit to the individual I would support.

I am not against a slow increase in corporation tax, but I am against the way this is being done. I'm not against slow, testable min wage rises controlled by the LPC either, I am against a bunch of labour protest politicians with no experience unilaterally putting things up without careful consideration.

I don't for one minute believe either party is going to do well out of Brexit, that's a disaster for everyone, no glory to be had there.

CountessYgritte · 06/06/2017 10:43

And even if she is ill, it makes no difference. She should not be in that position. She should retire and get treatment. We cannot carry politicians who are not performing well. This is not a job for long term sick leave.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:45

I think Sir Keir Starmer QC will do a hell of a lot better than David Davis, BoJo, and May with her threatening language..

Jeremy has outlined their Brexit plan. When will the Tories?

No deal is better than a bad deal but no deal is a bad deal????

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 10:45

the other thread was nasty - I don't need to know why Abbott is incompetent or speculate on the reasons. Abbott's just one of the core team that I think is incompetent, as well as their policies being a huge load of not what we need and not sustainable.

Dandandandandandandan · 06/06/2017 10:46

Lots of articles about it online, make. Take 5 minutes out of posting ever shriller labour propaganda on here and try reading why the comment made sense in terms of economics.

Then turn your mind to the question - IF it's so great, why don't other countries apply it successfully?

DisorderedAllsorts · 06/06/2017 10:46

I am being completely cynical here but do you think DA is being tactically used to throw the election for Labour because they don't want to deal with the Brexit negotiations? In all honesty, I don't think anybody wants to deal with it because they don't want to be associated with the fall out. As they will be forever known as the party that didn't get Britain,a good Brexit deal. Teresa May appeared to want to lose the election last week by not appearing at the debates and going after the pensioners who are usually their core voters.

bruffian · 06/06/2017 10:46

What illness could she have? TM has had several diabetes related blackouts due to the stress apparently and has kept on working coherently.

Perhaps she's actually just given up, can't be arsed to read anything and thinks the whole thing is a massive waste of time. That's what it sounds like at the moment.

bruffian · 06/06/2017 10:48

this is exactly what my dh thinks.

Its being done on purpose.

I think Labour are crapping themselves that they might get in. They can't promise half of their manifesto and they know they will fuck up Brexit.

This way they keep the image of credibility and blame Diane.

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 10:48

And what is your point CrossWordSalad?

Are you referring to the "legs-it" piece?

Oh, I don't know, worry about a photo of two women leaders with their legs and a pun on Brexit, or worry about a misogynistic, degrading, humiliating cartoon depicting TM being sodomised by Trump?

Yes, It's a difficult one isn't it?

bruffian · 06/06/2017 10:49

They can't deliver half their manifesto that should say

mummymeister · 06/06/2017 10:49

why is no deal a bad deal? not in my book it isn't.

I know 'more money' isn't the answer - but I think fairer taxation of the top 5% who earn more wealth than the poorest 20% is disgraceful. Amy I think you got into a bit of a muddle there!

if you know more money isn't the answer then why are you voting for a party that is promising to cut nothing and make lots of other things free? just shot your own argument in the foot with that statement.

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 10:50

Exactly Amy.

How can you approach something this important/huge with no plan at all?
