Sorry if there's already a thread about her latest cringeworthy interview but I couldn't find one... here she was on sky new last night, clearly having failed to read the police report she was there to discuss:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/3731086/shadow-home-secretary-diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-sky-police-security-london-bridge-attacks-terror/amp/

I like corbyn and what he stands for, but I can't give him my vote with these buffoons around him!

Guess this is what I'm trying to say - said more eloquently!

The Tory cuts will be incredibly damaging in the long term and take a lot of money to undo.

It's what happened last time.

It will happen again.

If the Tories took a slightly different approach of investing instead of blanket naive cuts then we would be in a better place.

GerdaLovesLili · 06/06/2017 10:02

I don't think I could bring myself to vote for a woman who once said "Every defeat of the British State is a victory for all of us". She didn't sound like ideal HS material then, and she certainly doesn't seem in command of herself now. I'll be spoiling my vote.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:06

Yes it's well within the Keynesian model to put up the tax for the top 5% and giver workers a fairer wage. Otherwise what will they spend and how will the economy grow?

Many businesses can afford to pay more. Small businesses will have tax relief etc. so their operations can grow, not stagnate as our economy currently is.

Dandandandandandandan · 06/06/2017 10:06

Oh ffs, you can't compare a population of 5m to a population of 60m+

If the Scandinavian model worked so brilliantly, every country would be doing it. There's a reason why it works for countries with smaller populations and similar cultures.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 10:08

If you don't give money to schools to repair their buildings now, they will cost more to repair in 5 years time. The Tories have restricted capital funding.

If you cut funding to local authorities such that they have to close libraries and sell of buildings, they cannot afford to buy them back ever.

If you cut the salaries of lower paid workers, they will not want to remain in their jobs. They will leave and it will take years to undo.

Everything the Tories do is destructive, all for short term gain.

Please enlighten. If you will, could you explain the "similar cultures" bit?

waitforitfdear · 06/06/2017 10:11

cherry

Are you joking? Of course they won't they will be waiting until Jeremy fails and it will be a race to see who stabs him first in the front.

None of those listed would associate with the chaos that would follow a labour government under Corbyn.

And as a labour voter got years I take no pleasure in that.

OCSockOrphanage · 06/06/2017 10:13

JC has fought a much better campaign than I would have believed possible. TM has been lack-lustre at best. Sadly, we need brilliant politicians of integrity, ability and with the capacity to negotiate skilfully now more than ever. I'm not seeing any.

Believeitornot · 06/06/2017 10:17

There is no evidence that neo-liberalism works. How many years did thatcher have? How many years did the david Cameron government have?

It doesn't work.

CaveMum · 06/06/2017 10:18

Dianne Abbott was supposed to be on Radio 4 debating with Amber Rudd at 9am this morning. Shortly before it was set to rake place it was announced that Emily Thornbury would be taking part instead.

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 10:19

I don't agree amy, companies are facing unprecedented hikes in their costs under Corbyn.

And that's if you believe the figures as quoted are sufficient or that these costs are future proofed against the spiralling costs of the NHS and pensions the aging population is bringing round the corner.

I don't want state expansion, I want better funding for existing services, and if I can't vote for that then I'll vote against lunatic expansion of poor state provision.

The Tories haven't ruled out tax increases. And remember they were going to introduce the NI increase for the self employed. So let's not doubt that the Tories will keep things low.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:25

Yes BIG corporations who pay next to no tax in this country will pay tax ... and good!

SMALL corporations will have tax relief and further incentives to help them pay their staff properly.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:27

Oh and they did rule out tax increases... Fallon did. Theresa said differently. We all know you can't trust a Tory, so who knows what they'll do.

PortiaCastis · 06/06/2017 10:28

Diane has been taken ill, the other thread about her has been deleted

GladAllOver · 06/06/2017 10:32

I really can't agree with people criticising Murnaghan for trying to trip her up. Surely that's what we want interviewers to do - to get beneath the party line and find out what is beneath.
The Home Secretary's job is to think and act quickly and rationally under the pressure of unexpected events. If a candidate can't respond to the relatively harmless prodding of a TV interviewer they aren't suitable to deal with national emergencies.

amyshepherd · 06/06/2017 10:33

What has happened to Diane? Is it announced she is ill?

This is Abbott's counterpart in the Conservative government. Watch what she does [on this video] from about 0.32 seconds in. Why is this not in the news?

Very blinkered viewing on your part. Did you not notice that the Chairman only intervened when the LibDem bloke also started objecting?

mummymeister · 06/06/2017 10:35

amyshepherd do you run your own business? or do you just have a degree in economics?

if you want to spend more money on something then that money has to come from somewhere. If you soak the rich as Momentum want to do - and yes, Momentum is JC and vice versa - then the rich have the capacity to bail their money somewhere else.

so who is left to be soaked? anyone who is in work that is who. it has to be a balance. tax people enough so that they will pay and pay fairly.

I have a big family and hopefully they will all go on to further education. but someone has to pay for this and I believe it should be through tuition fees and no grants. similarly if you own a house or any other assets why shouldn't you pay for your care when you are old. save the money that you would have spent there and spend it on the people who have nothing. sorry but its a very middle class view to believe that you have a right to pass on money and property to your family when you die. you don't.

I would be more than happy to pay more tax - on top of the 20% vat, 25% of turnover on business rates and all the other little taxes I pay. but if and only if I thought the services would improve.

they wont. we need a revolution in this country. we need an open and frank discussion about the sacred cow health service which is no longer fit for purpose. More money is not the answer. we need to start again with it and design something for the 21st century. I had hoped that if TM had a massive majority she might think the unthinkable and start this off. now she wont.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/amber-rudd-saudi-arabia-speech-shut-down-claims-nicholas-wilson-a7774126.html

I don't think I'm blinkered. I think this is truly frightening behaviour at a hustings where all candidates need to have their say. He was completely on topic and discussing issues widely raised since both terror attacks. I don't care what the Lib Dem bloke did. He was in a coalition with the Tories not long ago..

Woah! MN have pulled the other DA thread. I am not impressed by that.
