To think the new version of Dirty Dancing looks absolutely crap! (Spoilers I guess even though I haven't seen it either)

Just saw this advertised as a UK premier for Channel 5 so went on YouTube to see some videos. Now, remakes are generally crap but AIBU to think that they should actually make an attempt to surpass the original? Here is the dance to the finale in the original version:

Even if you're not a fan of the original at least it is talented dancing and an exciting scene to watch!

now to me the following is just lacklustre and pointless and uneventful compared to the original. It's just amateurish and crap, simple dancing! It's not even like I'm a huge fan but when I saw it I was utterly bored (although 'Baby's' 'run' at 3:25 really makes me laugh ):

Omg what on earth have they tried to do? Dirty dancing was and still is my all time favourite film, those actors/dancers look so stiff and fake, I know some people on here don't like the original but Johnny & Baby look like they're in love and move fluidly together almost to perfection, this almost looks painful.

Watched it last weekend........... truly truly awful. Casting was just woeful. I know baby wasn't supposed to know how to dance but she never improved...... at all. Chemistry between her and Jonny was non existant. There was a horrible back story about her parents......no need and as for Nicolles attempt at penny...... I think she should stick to the yoghurt commercials!

It is really really bad. There is no chemistry at all between Baby and Johnnie; the feminist vibe the original had is buried in all the silly extended subplots, and the dancing is completely unwatchable.

I did enjoy the setting; it was filmed at a mountain resort in North Carolina where DH and I spent part of our honeymoon. That was quite a while ago, but it still looks much the same.

Google some of the reviews. They are very funny.

Ugh, it looks awful. Surely with Dirty Dancing they should have cast actors who can actually dance.

I saw a post on Facebook this week of a couple who had done this as their first dance and it was really good compared to this !!

If Patrick Swayze isn't in it I'm not watching it.

And they changed the character of smarmy Neil. That alone is a crime.

Nobody can replace Patrick Swayze. Fact. He was a dancer. And bloody brilliant.

He was amazing in that movie. The final dance was just sexy.

The dance screen test that Grey and Swayze did for the movie is available online. It was pretty damned obvious from the beginning that they were going to sizzle.

To be fair, the Grease remake was decent for what it was and got favourable reviews, this by all accounts apparently got negative reviews. Vanessa Hudgens played Rizzo in Grease and stole the show even though her father had died the previous night (it was filmed and aired live)

I've seen the stage show twice and loved that even the little bits they had changed. This is just terrible though.

They couldn't dance at all! Is it 'modernised' because the character is bigger? Is it supposed to be body positive?

Yep, they're trying to be PC by using a bigger girl for the part of Baby, but it's a disaster. When Johnny lifts baby up in the air in the film, it's graceful, and beautiful to watch, but this is just fucking laughable. The whole thing looks a mess, and the girl looks clumsy, graceless, and cloddish. I am all for promoting body positivity, but this is taking the piss.

Paddy and Keith's version was bloody brilliant.

What is the point? It seems to have a lot of the same dialogue, same camera angles but worse dancing....a lot worse.
