To think the new version of Dirty Dancing looks absolutely crap! (Spoilers I guess even though I haven't seen it either)

Just saw this advertised as a UK premier for Channel 5 so went on YouTube to see some videos. Now, remakes are generally crap but AIBU to think that they should actually make an attempt to surpass the original? Here is the dance to the finale in the original version:

Even if you're not a fan of the original at least it is talented dancing and an exciting scene to watch!

now to me the following is just lacklustre and pointless and uneventful compared to the original. It's just amateurish and crap, simple dancing! It's not even like I'm a huge fan but when I saw it I was utterly bored (although 'Baby's' 'run' at 3:25 really makes me laugh Grin):

All I can see when I see it advertised - is Keith Lemon and Paddy McGuinness!

And yeah it doesn't look great.

I will still watch it though.

That should have been aren't A list! If you are going to remake something surely you should attempt to change it a little otherwise what's the point?

I couldn't watch more than a few seconds of the beginning but had to watch the new version of Baby's run.

It's so bad, it's pure comedy! :o

It's already aired here, a couple of weeks ago, I think. I didn't watch it because I loved Dirty Dancing, and I didn't want some made for TV remake ruining my childhood. It looks like I made the right call. Hmm

I have seen side by side shots of Patrick Swayze holding Jennifer Grey in the water with whoever the new guy is holding Abigail Breslin, and it's not good. The guy is holding her at an odd angle that makes her look huge, and that's coupled with the fact that his arms aren't fully extended, ago it looks like he is having trouble lifting her. I'm sure it's just an awkward photo, but PS and JG look so graceful.

It would have been OK (imo) as a remake if they had cast different actors in some of the roles. Neither Johnny nor Baby was really believable in their part. And Baby looked older than her 'older' sister.

Plus the ending was a total rip off of La La Land.

Which is a bit of a worry in a film whose whole premise is based on dancing.

Patrick Swayze was such a good dancer and rather good looking and this new thing is just a travesty!!

This. I was surprised the actor is American; his accent was weird. He also went to the same college I did.

To put it into context (something I meant to do in the op) was compare it to the performance by Bindi Irwin the late Crocodile Hunter's girl not as good as the original but very impressive compared to that other rubbish!
