To ask for a summary on the Tory v Labour stance on what to do about terrorism?

This is looking like being the most critical issue of our times at the moment despite my thoughts that Brexit was the crux of this election.

Can anyone cut through the waffle and tell us what the 2 main parties are offering to do about extremists and terrorism?

Diane Abbott in 'not bothering to read super important & exceptionally relevant report' shocker.

She really is shit.

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 23:35

Don't worry Dianne has just lost Corbyn the election if he was in with a chance now on sky news.

She's clearly slurring and has no idea what's going on

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 23:35

He almost deserves better to be fair

CivQueen · 05/06/2017 23:39

Well, even if we disagree on some things Corbyn, we can all unite in our 'what in the holy fuck' faces watching Diane Abbott elicits.

DelphiniumBlue · 05/06/2017 23:42

Oh dear, Diane hasn't done her homework.
She seemed very ill-prepared, I guess she could have anticipated that the Harris report would be brought up. If she had read it back when it was published in October, she certainly didn't recall the detail.
i don't know enough to be sure about this, but I would have thought she would be specifically briefed on this sort of thing. If she wasn't, that throws up more issues. If she was, but couldn't retain the information, that is also a problem. Better to admit it than flounder so embarrassingly.

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 23:44

Agree it's bloody sad and I am no fan of Dianne but this is awful

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 23:45

It's more than not reading a document. It's more serious and dad than that

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 23:45

Bloody hell sad not dad

bruffian · 05/06/2017 23:52

Is there actually something wrong with diane Abbott? Is she ill?

CivQueen · 05/06/2017 23:58

bruffian I think so.

Whatever happens I imagine an announcement won't be long after Friday.

bruffian · 06/06/2017 00:00

No I expect not. Poor woman.

Charmageddon · 06/06/2017 00:02

Well, even if we disagree on some things Corbyn, we can all unite in our 'what in the holy fuck' faces watching Diane Abbott elicits.

I proper lol'd at that Grin

Poor Diane Sad

Charmageddon · 06/06/2017 00:06

I actually quite like Diane sometimes - she drives me demented as a shadow cabinet member & she's said/done many things that I don't agree with - but she doesn't seem like a mean person at all.

I think it's just too hard for her being in a high profile post like she is - she's a much better back bencher.

CivQueen · 06/06/2017 00:13

Yeah I do feel a bit guilty after watching that interview. I've been taking the piss out of her last few interviews.

It was painful, there is just so obviously something wrong.

I get that she might want to carry on but she shouldn't be working in that state.

BertrandRussell · 06/06/2017 07:31

She was crap. She should have just said "I see a lot of reports and papers, and there has been a lot going on. May I see that sheet with the bullet points?"

But it was a tedious bit of interviewing as well. Obviously designed to be an elephant trap. And what did we actually find out? "Politician does not remember details of report she read in October"

Two4One2017 · 06/06/2017 07:47

Betrand - this woman is applying for the job of Home Secretary. She will be in charge of our security. She is not fit for the post. If Amber Rudd had done this in an interview MN would have gone into meltdown.

JC has her on the front bench cos they're mates from their protesting days 30yrs ago ........ oh and 172 of his MPs supported a vote of no confidence in him so won't serve in his cabinet.

Dermot Murnaghan was gentle with her - imagine if Andrew Neil had done that interview!!

If you went to a work meeting that ill prepared you'd probably get the sack. The woman is a disgrace and now we know why she was absent from the TV at the weekend and Thornberry was sent to the rescue.

Charmageddon · 06/06/2017 07:49

It was definitely a great big obvious trap - he wasn't even sneaky about it.

I think the way Diane performed there is my biggest problem of all with politicians of all sides - they just don't choose honesty as the first option.

She should have just said "I see a lot of reports and papers, and there has been a lot going on. May I see that sheet with the bullet points?"

This would have swiftly neutralised the obvious agenda, rather than digging an ever deeper hole.

JC - "yes I did x,y,z - would I do it now? No. But I have age, wisdom & experience now that I didn't then"

TM - "I regret the way I dealt with the police federation etc; at the time their were difficult choices that I made, I felt they were achievable at the time - however now I accept that it went far too far & they were right, I was wrong. We will absolutely reverse the cuts & deal with this as a priority"

(Just off the top of my head, obvs).

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 07:50

On the Tory watch we are seeing terror death by the score across our nation.

May and Rudd should resign immediately.

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 07:50

And what did we actually find out? "Politician does not remember details of report she read in October"

or perhaps

"Politician who is shadow Home Secretary for the opposition is woefully uninformed and knowledgeable about terrorism and preventing it, one of the greatest threats to our country at this time"

and also

"Labour party consider said politician capable of being Home Secretary"

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 07:53

How about citizens dying by the score right now due to Tory ineptitude.

WalkingOnLeg0 · 06/06/2017 07:53

If Abbott was running the Home Office in a few days time we might as well all go home and admit the terrorists have won.

BertrandRussell · 06/06/2017 08:00

I absolutely agree tht she was rubbish. That is separate from the fact that it was a deeply tedious bit of interviewing.

Two4One2017 · 06/06/2017 08:12

May and Rudd should resign immediately.

I know...let's have a general election on thursday......

Betrand - it was a very gentle interview with a woman who wants to be Home Secretary. Maybe it was tedious because she didn't know her brief, the numbers, clearly had read the report and the interviewer had to point that out to her. Shame on her that she thinks it's OK to disrespect the electorate and not give a toss about the details of her Home Office portfolio.

And she has form on this...remember her brainfreeze on Nick Ferrari on LBC a few weeks ago - everytime she opens her mouth she screws it up.

My 6th former would get in real trouble for turning up to a lesson having not done his prep......

iseenodust · 06/06/2017 08:17

Just watched it. Definitely took away any last semblance of competence. I don't think it was a trap. The security report is probably the most recent focussed on London and was commissioned by the Labour Mayor (who you would hope a shadow home secretary has had some detailed conversations with, especially post Westminster bridge). Dermot M was actually quite kind, trying to prompt her recall over physical measures, someone like Paxman would have gone for the jugular.

Crackednips · 06/06/2017 08:50

How about citizens dying by the score right now due to Tory ineptitude Who - where?

That's really what it comes down to in the ned Two4one Voting Labour at the moment will make Diane Abbott, Home Secretary, in charge of police, borders, immigration, and MI5. I shhudder just writing that...

I know of courser for Labour supporters the right wing press are to blame for all their leaders failings, but this prospect of this is a creation all of their own..
