To ask for a summary on the Tory v Labour stance on what to do about terrorism?

This is looking like being the most critical issue of our times at the moment despite my thoughts that Brexit was the crux of this election.

Can anyone cut through the waffle and tell us what the 2 main parties are offering to do about extremists and terrorism?

^^You might find if Jeremy Corbyn were actually in power as Prime Minister he would have a wider choice of Front Bench colleagues - coz, you know, actually being Foreign Secretary as opposed to Shadow FS is quite cool if you're a politician who wants to see your policies and beliefs enacted.

Or you bide your time waiting for the leadership challenge...

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 14:04

'Necessary and effective' isn't truthful?

So he should say 'unnecessary and ineffective'?

Ontopofthesunset · 05/06/2017 14:04

Either and probably both! But of course it won't happen so we may get stuck with this lousy shadow cabinet for longer.

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 14:06

As per usual you are deliberately obfuscating.

He is using a stock phrase, which he has been specifically advised to use whenever there is a question that he wants to shut down because it is contrary to his previous on the record opinions & views.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2017 14:07

so you'd want government run by people who can only be enticed to stand up and take part when the chance of a 'cool' job is on offer? or your government led by someone who can only get people to work with him that way? that's pretty messed up.

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 14:14

Is that me you are 'as per usual'-ing at charmageddon?

Do you know me?

Or are you tying yourself up in knots again?

Ontopofthesunset · 05/06/2017 14:19

Oh, don't be silly. I was being facetious in my wording.

Politicians, just like the rest of us, are constantly assessing and reassessing their careers and their roles, and where they believe they can have the most influence. Why is it 'messed up' to think that a politician might decide they could do some real good in a Front Bench role despite their differences with the leader?

Look at the ridiculous post referendum shenanigans with old InAgainOutAgainBeginAgain Boris Johnson and StabYourBestMateInTheBack Michael Gove and NeverGiveAnOpinionOnAnything Theresa May. Why is that not 'messed up'?

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 14:21

christina

Everything has been 'done to death' on mumsnet that's no reason to try shutting down debate.

I totally agree with charms of course Corbyn is now realising that what you once shouted as a back bench agitator clearly needs to change if you are party leader. Of course he's cynically 'changed his mind/got some sense at last.

TMs record isn't good is it and if she followed through on 'enough is enough' and announced a raft of policies probably including internment (which I disagree with) she would win a landslide on Thursday but even in this when it's been handed to her on a plate like the falklands was to Thatcher, she's dithering and looking all words and no action.

God What a pathetic bunch of tossers we have in top positions now. Quite frightening.

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 14:26

I do find it strange that Corbyn is being criticised for U turning. He has, as far as I can recall, not actually changed his mind on anything- except possibly the shoot to kill thing, but isn't that something where you might well change your mind when circumstances change?

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 14:26

Will they fuck work with Corbyn. When he fails which he spectacularly will either way by winning power and he won't be able to carry out all his wonderful promises, or he presides over a decimation of Thursday, it will be a toss up which one of him stabs him first to get the leadership.

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 14:28

so a life long member of CND and an ardent pacifist would lead a government that renews trident?

Think that's a little bit of a sea change

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2017 14:34

He has not changed his mind, is open about his views and is clear about first use. As I said, that's parliamentary democracy for you!

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 14:36

*Is that me you are 'as per usual'-ing at charmageddon?

Do you know me?

Or are you tying yourself up in knots again?*

Not tying myself in knots at all, what a strange interpretation of me repeating a point almost verbatim.

Am confused by your question though - are you suggesting that I must know you as I've judged you correctly?

Crackednips · 05/06/2017 14:38

Why? Because you don't like Corbyn?

Why else???

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 14:48

No, I'm confused as to why you're 'per usual'-ing at me.

As we don't know each other, I don't understand what your 'per usual' is about.

Other than you've nothing sensible to say.

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 14:53

Isn't 'necessary and effective' a bit like him saying that he'd like to think things through before pressing the nuclear button as he did on QT the other night?

What a lily livered pacifist, eh?

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 15:03

He wants to 'think things through' if the country is under nuclear attack?

Right!!

Crackednips · 05/06/2017 15:06

Are you in any doubt as to whether or not he'll take the side of the country who wishes harm to this one? Just look at his past..

I think Corbyn and McDonnell ought to think themselves lucky that 'treason' is considered an 'old-fashioned' offence.

christinarossetti · 05/06/2017 15:10

Rather than just press a button? Are you serious?

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 15:11

The per usual is the stock shut down debate because you dare to question the dear leaders purity and morals.

You call him out as a career politician who will say anything to gain power and that she's just another power hungry politician.

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 15:12

He not she

WalkingOnLeg0 · 05/06/2017 15:26

Armed police took 8 minutes to kill the terrorists. TM has given the anti terror police the funding, support and leadership to do this. That says it all to me.

Corbyn has started spouting a stock phrase to security issues he can't deal with. Like trident and shoot to kill. I could never trust a man with his past looking after my families safety, no matter how hard he shakes the magic money tree.

Crackednips · 05/06/2017 15:30

Yes but sadly, Walking 25% or so of the electorate will vote for him regardless as he's promising lots of "free stuff"... Yaaay

waitforitfdear · 05/06/2017 15:34

They won't need the magic money tree it's fine as Dianne has the maths under control with the police pay while Jeremy knows exactly how much free child care for all costs. Oh yes and they have both costed bringing all those utilities back into their control.

Don't panic don't panic

Charmageddon · 05/06/2017 15:36

Just watched JC losing his rag at a female reporter when she pressed him on TM needing to resign.

Proper boggle-eyed unhinged.

What a 'peaceful' twat Grin
