How the hell can we stop this?

OP posts:
Chloe84 · 05/06/2017 10:02

thehoneybadger are you really this wilfully obtuse? You asked about Bhuddist terrorists and I posted about Bhuddist persecution of Rohingya in Myanmar. Ethnic cleansing is terrorism too.

If you don't want an answer, don't ask a question.

Chloe84 · 05/06/2017 10:07

they're just being murdered for not being muslim.

honeybadger That's what's happening to Muslims in Myanmar, but for being Muslims. But when people post that, it's obfuscation?

CrossWordSalad · 05/06/2017 10:10

Chloe Can I ask which do you think is the biggest threat facing the UK at the present time: Islamist terrorism, Buddhist terrorism or terrorism from any other religious sect?

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2017 10:11

scale.

i was told all religions are equally violent and asked how many people had been killed in the name of e.g. buddhist ideology in the last week.

they were not 'catholics', they weren't fighting in the name of god, they were fighting for a 'free' ireland.

CrossWordSalad · 05/06/2017 10:35

And what about across Europe, at the present time? What is the biggest threat: Islamist terrorism, Buddhist terrorism or terrorism from any other religious sect?

MrsD79 · 05/06/2017 10:39

Drives me nuts. Lighting candles is not going to stop anything! What are we wining exactly???

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2017 10:39

and no, it's not 'muslim' it's 'islamist'.

mothertruck3r · 05/06/2017 10:45

The Rohingya are also commiting terrorist attacks in Myanmar.

Taylor22 · 05/06/2017 10:57

Parents have lost their sons and daughter. Husbands and wives have lost the people they should have had decades left with. Children now have to work out why their parents left the house happy and smiling and now are never coming home.
Are some people telling me that those grieving people haven't lost?
They're supposed to just put a smile on and be....British? Stiff upper lip and all that?
We as a nation have a problem. A problem that is getting worse. A problem that is going to kill and destroy morels us.
And we're to busy arguing amounts ourselves to tackle it.

BillsykesDog · 05/06/2017 11:07

What is happening to the Rohingya is, of course, awful. But it is ridiculous to pretend that what is happening in Myanmar is having anything like the worldwide impact that Islamist extremism is. Only South America seems relatively unscathed.

I'm not sure that the 'haves' and 'have nots' argument applies so much here either. As so much of it is associated with the Saudis who most certainly are the 'have nots'.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2017 12:43

utterly ridiculous. it's mindboggling.

damewithaname · 05/06/2017 17:34

Stop watching the news. So many news channels are paid by the government. They want to instill fear in the people. The more fear stricken people are, the more they win "YOU"!!

lapun34 · 05/06/2017 17:36

You can always vote for Corbyn. He will have a cup of tea with the terrorists, will oppose all anti terrorist legislstion and bring world peace to allWink

clarkl2 · 05/06/2017 17:39

I think if we can come through 2 world wars, the IRA and other crap we can get through this. Less drama.

Alidoll · 05/06/2017 17:46

Yeah, but we've got Trident don't you know!! That'll sort them out..

(and yes I'm being sarcastic!).

Here's a thought...let's put the money set aside for that into real community policing - with recruitment from all faiths that can engage with people in these areas and speak directly to those who are impressionable and try and change their mindset (or at least be able to pass info onto counter terrorism division when they believe that person / group of people are a threat to others).

Start by recruiting those 20,000 police May got rid of eh! Not by empty platitudes of "not putting up with it any more"

As a nuclear warhead isn't going to stop someone in a Ford Transit with a kitchen knife is it?

Maireadplastic · 05/06/2017 17:48

Iapun- the opposite hasn't worked has it? Teresa May was Home Secretary for quite some time....

I think we should look at who we sell arms to....it's just insanity.

mumto2two · 05/06/2017 17:56

The Northern Ireland issues were not religiously motivated. It was a civil war motivated by occupation of land. And the people involved were relatively so few, and more importantly generally known to the authorities. There are little comparisons to be drawn with this.
The issue we have now is some globalised hatred of western values, on a mass scale. Many different nationalities, many different backgrounds. The one thing they have in common, beyond their hatred, is their religion.

mumto2two · 05/06/2017 18:05

Ironically, it is the freedoms bestowed by our western society that's actually has enabled what is happening in this country today.
Freedom of speech, protection of the individual and their right to live pretty much as they please. I imagine if an army of radical Christians had decamped to somewhere like Pakistan or the Middle East, and started spouting anti Islamic propaganda and handing out hate fuelled leaflets in their local mosques, they would not be welcome for very long.
Whereas here, they were getting houses and benefits to boot, free to roam and spread hatred as they please.

fullofhope03 · 05/06/2017 18:09

First of all, it goes without saying (though I'm saying it nontheless) that our love and heartfelt condolences go to all the people who have been directly affected by the hideous atrocities. BUT, I really really hope 'they' aren't 'winning'.
I live in London and will NOT, no matter what these apologies of men, (ok, I'll veer away from sexism and say apolgies of 'human beings'), do.
I'll continue to live my life, go where I want to go, do want the hell I want to do regardless. And will not be mean to the Muslim folk in which London (and other cities) is their home.
These evil scumbags of humanity want to spread hate and fear. NO WAY.

Slarti · 05/06/2017 18:14

I've always sort of thought it was a reaction to foreign policy. Now I think they just hate us. It's always bars, concerts.

The Manchester bomber said he wanted revenge for his friend who was killed in a racist attack and for the children killed in Libya (which I think is the reason he targeted a young concert audience). Those things probably contributed to making him vulnerable to ISIS propaganda of "the evil west hates Muslims" which ultimately led to his radicalisation.

BoffinMum · 05/06/2017 18:15

They are not winning because we are all on here talking about our ovaries in public and swearing, between holding down jobs, lying on beaches in bikinis, and having free smear tests done by men if we want.

That having been said there is a need for diluting extremism by various means, mainly by distributing affluence better.

SherbrookeFosterer · 05/06/2017 18:26

Absolute rubbish OP. They are not winning. The police were there and had gunned down the three culprits within eight minutes. Amazing.

People in the bars and restaurants didn't cower, they fought back using bottles and glasses.

AmateurSwami · 05/06/2017 18:27

Today 18:05 mumto2two Ironically, it is the freedoms bestowed by our western society that's actually has enabled what is happening in this country today.

Pick up a history book.

Also, while we are a Christian country, 42% or people in the U.K. don't indentify with a religion while a further 9% are atheist. We don't have strong religious ties, but just get irate when someone with a different view comes along.

You must realise muslims are the main targets of ISIS. ISIS are psychopaths. Sick fucks who think their warped view of a religion is the right way.
