How the hell can we stop this?

Have you read up on the provisions that Theresa May pushed through in the RIPA bill?

That's an opportunistic political reaction to terrorism, not terrorism itself. As ever, the biggest threats come from those who take advantage of threats in the name of security.

Most terrorists don't practice Islam. They take drugs, drink alcohol, don't pray etc etc. That seems to be the case. But they kill in the name of Islam.

Anders Breivik said he was '100% Christian' in his manifesto. Doesn't mean Christianity told him to kill those kids did it?

"How many people have been stoned to death due to the application of the Old Testament this week?"

Jeremy Christian used a knife in Portland last week.

MissionItsPossible · 04/06/2017 19:48

Haven't RTFT but it's hard to fight this type of terrorism where kitchen knives and big vehicles are accessible by anyone of legal age and a driving licence. Literally anybody with access to these items and a desire to do this can do so. It's scary. Thankfully, in the grand scale of things, us humans are nice people. It's hard to believe with the media and the newspaper reports and the news but really, these acts are so atrocious because they are so rare. Evil people make the news because they are the exception to the norm.

Yes, after ranting against Jews, Christians and Muslims, so I'm not quite sure what the relevance is.

And Mission we have had three of "these acts" since 22nd March, so not so rare, really.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 20:31

not rare at all.

the knots people will tie themselves in to deny reality is incredible.

buddhist ideology is as violent as islamist? only on mn is the expression i believe.

Also publicly supporting Bernie sanders and anti trump initially.

Justanotherlurker · 04/06/2017 20:52

if you think what is happening in Syria is about religion and not about the usual suspects of oil/weapons aka money/power.

Nothing to do with the arab spring uprising then Hmm, including the nebulous "power" in there is down playing a hell of a lot and ignoring the religious overtones

Was the Arab spring not about money and power then?

Was there no religious connotations ?

No not really. Just like Northern Ireland. Religion used as broad brush stroke for the have/have nots.

Yeah, you clearly don't understand...

The fact that you even go down this route:

Do you think those people were trying to convert anyone?

Shows that you have no understanding of the sectarian religious connotations of the arab uprising, bearing in mind that I was responding, probably to you by the looks of it, that religion had nothing to do with Syria

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 22:21

i didn't even mention syria.

please do continue to say islamist ideology is no more violent than any other religions. let's have the death tolls of buddhist, christian, hindu, sikh and jain terrorists in the last three months - and the death toll of islamist attacks and see how identical they are.

can no one admit when patent untruths are spouted?

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 22:24

let's take say egypt - i'll bet just as many muslims have been killed by coptic christians in the last month as vice versa given the equally violent nature of their ideology. no? funny that.

it's not like there is a global pattern of brutal violence being waged by islamist extremists AT ALL. nope, nothing to see here move along. let's talk about those killer buddhists some more.

where does this kind of nonsensical denial get us?

can assure the copts haven't disenfranchised anyone in egypt if that helps. also that they haven't bombed anyone, been involved in syria or had any say or influence on foreign policies. they're just being murdered for not being muslim.

derxa · 05/06/2017 09:02

the knots people will tie themselves in to deny reality is incredible Yes. All the very clever arguments used by intellectually adept people. They however would never change their views because to admit they are wrong on this would mean that they would have to challenge their whole belief system.

Chloe84 · 05/06/2017 09:18

thehoneybadger Muslim Rohingya face discrimination and violence from the Buddhist majority in the country, also called Myanmar. Their plight generally goes unnoticed by the world at large, even though some rights activists say their persecution amounts to ethnic cleansing.

I often wonder what it will take for some people to acknowledge what is happening.

TheHoneyBadger · 05/06/2017 09:35

i do not know. i have to bump into a known isis recruiter and preacher in the supermarket regularly as he has relocated here from london. the guys youtube channel is still up preaching hate, he was arrested and prohibited from using social media or specifically making youtube videos and immediately went onto youtube to make a video about it which is still there.

he was in the documentary, the jihadi next door, which the leader of this attack was also in allegedly. i've jsut posted about him and it on the other thread and i got a response about some buddhists on the other side of the world are oppressing people. it is a bizarre world.

CrossWordSalad · 05/06/2017 09:38

Bizarre and very scary.
