How the hell can we stop this?

Going back to a post from a few pages ago, to the poster user1471545174 why on earth would you not report suspicions about radicalisation to the authorities unless you could remain annonymous? If more people in the community were willing to stand up and be counted and publicly speak out rather than hiding behind a statement from the Muslim Council surely that could make a difference?

I am not a fan of the Daily Telegraph but this piece is interesting:
'Terror is killing far fewer people in the UK now than it was in the 1980s.
Between 2000 and 2015, 90 people have been killed in the UK in terrorist attacks, according to figures from the Global Terrorism Database. Although not on British soil, a further 30 British people were killed in Tunisia when a gunman attacked a hotel popular among Western tourists.
This compares to 1,094 deaths in the 15-year period before that, between 1985 and 1999, and a further 2,211 between 1970 and 1984.'

Sprinkles while I agree with most of what you say I don't think you can claim it's nothing to do with Islam.

If people are doing something in the belief that they are true Muslims, ignoring that and saying they are wrong does nothing to address the problem.

I know that Islam is a faith not a race and therefore it's practice is cultural and not the same for everyone, but there is a lot of very conservative and misogynistic practice in there.

TheBogQueen · 04/06/2017 16:25

The people who travel to Syria - they know what Isis do. They know what they stand for. They see the cruelty and brutality, the genocide, systematic rape of women and children, beheadings, crucifixion..and they still go to support it.

What is it about Isis that is so attractive to these young people when they could be changing things for the better, when they have all the advantages of growing up in this country.

I just don't understand Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 17:34

hate bogqueen. sheer hate of the 'infidel' and a desire to join in with killing them.

they happily tell you what they are and why - for some reason we don't want to believe what they tell us.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 04/06/2017 17:38

@TheHoneyBadger I think the question is where does that hate and rage come from in the first place. That's what we need to look into.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 17:43

that hate is preached to them - in mild forms and sometimes in more extreme forms all of their lives. that's where it comes from.

derxa · 04/06/2017 17:45

they happily tell you what they are and why - for some reason we don't want to believe what they tell us.
And we have been brainwashed by the 'multicultural' dogma. We don't want to believe that some people living in this country think we deserve to die because we are not Muslim. We don't want to believe it because most of us are essentially good people. And I don't know what to do about it either.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 17:48

absolutely - and people even ask 'where does that hate come from?' - errr hello? have you read the quran or many muslim 'scholars' and their decrees about western life or homosexuality or women who have sex before marriage or or or or?

is the brainwashing so complete that people can't possibly think where these muslim men might have gotten the message to hate western life and those who live it?

Many people listen to hate speech and ignore it. Why do some get taken in?
The Qu'ran also states that murder is completely unacceptable. An attack on women and children during Ramadan would be abhorrent to most Muslims. Islam is no more violent than any other religion. Try reading the Old Testament!

TheHoneyBadger · 04/06/2017 18:00

quote: Islam is no more violent than any other religion. Try reading the Old Testament!

That's a patent nonsense.

How many people have been killed by people inspired by Buddhist ideology this week?

How many people have been stoned to death due to the application of the Old Testament this week?

What is with pretending their isn't a problem with Islamist ideology?

TalkinPeece · 04/06/2017 18:04

Giving them the honour of an 11am silence across the country has to stop

no matter how many people die, honouring them in the same way that we do the millions from WW1 and WW2
elevates them from petty little shits to warriors

the silence and the flowers have to get back under control

killing plants to honour the dead is insane
plant plants to honour the dead
make noise to honour the dead
but do not submit to repression

DoctorDonnaNoble · 04/06/2017 18:13

@TheHoneyBadger - there are terrorists who define as Buddhists actually. And many who claim to be Christian (Oklahoma bomber, Soho bomber, Anders Brevik). The Old Testament is hugely violent. Most fire and brimstone Christian preaching comes from the OT. It encourages war against the non-believers (cf. Joshua's many successful campaigns).

How are they "winning" ? Are we an Islamic caliphate ? Do they control vast swathes of our territory ? Is their culture prevailing here ? Tick none of the above

TalkinPeece · 04/06/2017 18:26

But we honour their battles by bringing our country to a memorial silence at the 11th hour
that must cease

SleightOfHand · 04/06/2017 18:41

I thought we were honouring the dead.

Most terrorists don't practice Islam. They take drugs, drink alcohol, don't pray etc etc. And they take innocent lives - another no no in Islam. I don't believe they want to kill Westerners because they do some of the same things. They are brainwashed to kill people to cause distrust between Muslims and non-Muslims. That is their ultimate agenda. Not to stop Westerners going to restaurants.

derxa · 04/06/2017 18:46

Most terrorists don't practice Islam. They take drugs, drink alcohol, don't pray etc etc. That seems to be the case. But they kill in the name of Islam.

SouthWestmom · 04/06/2017 18:53

This?

I don't know how I feel about it tbh. I'm not sure we should. Maybe an annual minutes silence for all who've lost their lives in terrorism attacks.

When I hear "we won't let them win" I now think, Hallo! They are winning!
TalkinPeece · 04/06/2017 18:53

sleight
11am is for war dead
are we admitting to being at war ?
do we credit the bomb vest nutters as being a combatant army?

Giddyaunt18 · 04/06/2017 19:17

So pleased to see Muslims on the streets of London condemning these attacks. The media need to show more of this.

JoshLymanJr · 04/06/2017 19:19

Of course they are not winning and it's hysterical to suggest they are. Terrorism such as this poses a threat, on a relatively small scale, to the life and limbs of citizens, but is no threat to our democracy, civilisation or way of life.

TalkinPeece · 04/06/2017 19:21

but is no threat to our democracy, civilisation or way of life.
Have you read up on the provisions that Theresa May pushed through in the RIPA bill?
Pretty threatening to anybody who does not want to always conform
