I'm getting sick of Tory HQ starting threads here to discredit Labour

come on guys, we can all see through it

fight the election without resorting to this

OP posts:

So what you're saying is that the person who started the post about Jezza being filthy in bed is really Diane Abbott?

JanetBrown2015 · 01/06/2017 17:12

I see a huge lot of Labour supporting threads too. We all have freedom of speech.

I still predict a massive Tory win (thank God).

Vote Conservative next week.

Orlantina · 01/06/2017 17:12

Now if I wanted to join a parenting website why would my first thread be about politics, unless that was my main goal

It happened during Brexit. Just nudging people towards an opinion.
One notable poster is absent. I do hope they were an astroturfer rather than a genuine MNer because I worry that something has happened to them - they are conspicuous by their absence.

Elendon · 01/06/2017 17:13

I don't think its Tory HQ, surely! Aren't they all busy with Brexit or something? Histinyhands

Grin

The one that got me was how sexy Jeremy is. So flipping obvious.

Where is Theresa May? Where is she?

MacarenaFerreiro · 01/06/2017 17:13

They've maybe just changed their username.

Orlantina · 01/06/2017 17:13

Vote Conservative next week

That's not very persuasive. Try harder.

The Tories will not get a massive win. That much is clear now. The Tories bleat on and on about Labour taking us back to the 70s but they may well end up like Wilson in the 70s with a very unstable government.

Ontopofthesunset · 01/06/2017 17:18

It's the ones with username7654321 who start a thread with "I'm a lifelong Labour voter but for the first time ever I'm thinking of voting Tory because....(insert scaremongering fact)."

These are very different from the long-term posters with their individual views, some of whom are left wing and some of whom are right wing.

There may be Labour party shills here too but I've noticed a few Conservative ones.

Justanotherlurker · 01/06/2017 17:19

Perhaps it's just that MN is becoming less of an echo chamber, and the previously dominant side don't like that?

Agree, I have seen just as much Momentum posters as anything, same script used across multiple sites.

HornyTortoise · 01/06/2017 17:22

"I'm a lifelong Labour voter but for the first time ever I'm thinking of voting Tory because....(insert scaremongering fact)."

Ah right..I get it now. Have seen a few of these, but from both sides. Do people really think that writing their opinions on a website changes other peoples opinions? I don't understand that but if its true that there are paid people to do this (saw it claimed about Clinton in the US election...) I don't really understand the point. Are people really likely to change their opinion based on reading some forum posts?!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 17:23

I dont think they are saying that at all

Maybe not but it is showing their own bias by not seeing that there are numerous Labour threads too.

PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 17:28

Oh god, I so nearly started a similar thread. I'm deeply bored of the astroturfers of all hues.

And yes, it definitely is happening.

It happened to strike me on a particular thread, so I followed a small bunch of the really obvious ones as they spammed multiple threads on the same issue, frequently with a single post, and generally with no sign of even reading never mind learning from the previous discussions.

Then I Advance Searched them, and lo, first posts within the last few weeks or days. Or in one wonderful case, they've been here longer but their other posts are mostly about how wonderful a particular private clinic is... Seriously mate, we can see you.

And I'm really not talking about people I just disagree with. I mean, JanetBrown may post all sorts of stuff I think is junk, but she's an actual MNer who's been here for years and is completely transparent in every namechange. So I may disagree with her, but I don't think she's a shill.

The astroturfers are just fucking tedious.

Chaotica · 01/06/2017 17:33

Surely the one about how sexy JC is was started by a mumsnetter.

HattiesBackpack · 01/06/2017 17:33

I thought this was all a bit of hot air really, but actually Ive noticed some very formulaic posts lately telling us all how wonderful Labour are!

Has made me cast a bit of cynical eye on the pro-Corbyn threads.

53rdWay · 01/06/2017 17:36

I sort of like being astroturfed at. It makes me feel all valued inside. My wages are falling in real terms and childcare is costing a fortune and I'll never get a decent pension, but at least I'm an Important Demographic!

TheWitchAndTrevor · 01/06/2017 17:37

"I'm a lifelong Labour voter but for the first time ever I'm thinking of voting Tory because....(insert scaremongering fact)."

There is s thread running in active at the moment, but saying life long tory

I saw it the other day and rolled my eyes, but then realised it was a poster I've spoken to many times on here before, so that did surprise me.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 01/06/2017 17:38

chaotica

I double dare you no returns cross keys to start one about TM

PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 17:38

Worth casting a cynical eye on all of them, I'd say. Especially any that begin "I'm so scared..." or "Well it's obviously all over for X..." or as mentioned above, "I've always voted X but now I'm voting Y."

(Though to be fair, I did see an eg of the last from a longstanding, recognisable MNer who hadn't namechanged.)

PerkingFaintly · 01/06/2017 17:39

Snap, TheWitch.

makeourfuture · 01/06/2017 17:41

The Tories should be working on their exploding Tory Debt and a plan for Brexit, which they don't have.

Elendon · 01/06/2017 17:41

I'm so itching to start a thread about May being so HAWT. Itching I tells ye!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 17:44

There is s thread running in active at the moment, but saying life long tory

I have seen that. All on the back of the Paxman debate apparently. May didn't perform badly so it seems a big leap to go from a lifelong Tory voter to full on Corbynista in one swoop off the back of it.

53rdWay · 01/06/2017 17:44

"AIBU to vote Conservative? I'm a lifelong Whig voter but I just can't agree with their take on the Corn Laws. At a time like this surely we need to support our rural aristocratic landowners! Also I wouldn't kick that Robert Peel out of bed, I'll tell you."

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 17:44

I'm so itching to start a thread about May being so HAWT. Itching I tells ye!
