Staunch Tory wavering

FuckyDuck · 01/06/2017 07:56

So as title says, I have always been a staunch Tory supporter and I also voted leave in the EU referendum. I genuinely have the utmost faith in TM to deliver brexit to the best of her ability

BUT

the NHS & education...

JC is someone I could never respect but labours approach to the NHS and education seems to be far far better. However I simply cannot abide any of their social policies (my view on this is that EVERYONE who is physically and mentally capable of working, should, no one gets a free ride unless disabled/caring for someone who is)

Now I don't want Tory flaming but I need to decide whether the Tory economical and social policies outweigh Labours NHS plans and education policies. Can anyone help?

Isn't it interesting that all the nasty, vicious attacks are anti-Corbyn.

I guess you have missed all the nasty vicious attacks by Corbyn supporters then?

squoosh · 02/06/2017 00:35

YABVVU Jeremy Corbyn managed to completely fuck up a Woman's Hour interview. We'll all be totally screwed if he's handling the Brexit negotiations.

  1. At least he turned up to Woman's Hour. May has once again refused and is sending Greening instead.

  2. It would be Starmer leading negotiations, and I'd have a lot more faith in him than the bumbling and uninformed Davis.

DJBaggySmalls · 02/06/2017 00:37

If the Tories get in you will lose the NHS. If that is what you want then vote Tory.

TheRollingCrone · 02/06/2017 00:51

With regards to anti terrorism; who do you all think will protect the public and support the police and security services?

The Tories were always touted as the party of law & order: but so many cuts - some things cannot be done on the cheap.

Five warnings about Abedi - to me that says either 1) Our security services are incompetent or 2) they just do not have the resources/ budget to do their job as they would ideally want to.

Mrs May has shown herself to be weak. Far from strong or stable. I wold hate to see her negotiate Brexit. She's either very aggressive or a mumbling nervous wreck: I can't work her out to be honest.

Marmaladeorange · 02/06/2017 01:06

please, I beg you not to vote conservative.
according to the nspcc, 1 in 5 children referred to camhs will be turned away.
the number of young people arriving in A&E with psychiatric problems has doubled since 2009.
between 2010-2015, the government has cut £598m a year from mental health trusts - leaving 60% of facilities deemed as requiring immediate improvement.
if you ever have a child who is mentally ill, or suicidal, you will want there to be adequate support in place.

Fundamentally people choose to vote for what suits their way of life. They are entitled to do that, they don't have to be ridiculed or begged to change their minds. We can put our views across in an intelligent way without personal attacks. In my eyes although I vote labour a Tory voter or any party voter has as much right as me to vote the way they do. So please when talking politics stop insulting others and that goes for all sides!

allegretto · 02/06/2017 07:58

I would hope that a lot of people also think about society as a whole, not just their little part of it!

citroenpresse · 02/06/2017 11:12

EVERYONE who is physically and mentally capable of working, should, no one gets a free ride unless disabled/caring for someone who is . Couldn't agree more. Am voting Labour.

But the link between employment and benefits is poverty and low wages, not unwillingness to work.

PlayOnWurtz · 02/06/2017 20:57

Do you not see how raising the minimum wage isn't going to fix the problem? It's just going to reshuffle the pack, raise prices of labour manufacturing and goods and devalue wages...welcome to inflation.

citroenpresse · 02/06/2017 21:14

Depends what problem you are trying to 'fix'. There have been many many studies on employment impacts (and there could be many other reasons for inflation...welcome to Brexit). But one of the most likely outcomes is social - it protects the poorest. How do race to the bottom scenarios contribute to sustainable growth?

Sostenueto · 02/06/2017 23:08

Allegretto please read my previous posts and you will realise I am in agreement with you. I just meant it's sometimes a waste of time trying to convince others whose motives for voting differently to you are not the same as yours.

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:15

If you or your family ever plan to use the NHS or state education system, maybe talk to some teachers, nurses, doctors for their perspective? It is very admirable to change allegiance based on new developments. I see so many people digging their heels into whichever camp they are used to being in and unable even to listen to the other side. I wish more people would listen and think for themselves on both sides

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 23:17

I have. Very few will be voting Labour.

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:22

Ha! Nearly everyone I know is a teacher and I know several doctors and nurses. Some will vote lib dem because of Europe but nearly all will vote labour because they are the strongest opposition party. But I do live in London in a safe Labour seat, maybe you live somewhere where schools and hospitals are funded better Confused

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2017 23:27

In a recent poll only a small minority of teachers say they will be voting Conservative.

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:28

Still baffled actually at the idea of a teacher or doctor not voting Labour. Who are these people you have talked to piglet?! CCHQ would kill to find someone in the NHS who would endorse them!

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:29

Ok so it is just the teachers I work with then. What are they voting in your school noblegirrafe?

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:29

Oh sorry misread your post noble

mummysmellsofsick · 02/06/2017 23:33

Is there a similar poll for NHS workers? Interesting to challenge my assumptions on this

WorldsacpeLove · 02/06/2017 23:34

I was just remembering about Jeremy Corbyn's Mumsnet chat - he left within 20 minutes and mostly spoke about Jam.

Does make me wonder if he'd be dashing out of Brexit negotiations 1/3 of the way through each day to catch a train.

WorldsacpeLove · 02/06/2017 23:35

@mummysmellsofsick My partner is a doctor; he's voting conservative.

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 23:37

Does TM's behaviour this week make you wonder if she'll even bother showing up to Brexit negotiations then?

WorldsacpeLove · 02/06/2017 23:38

@christinarossetti No. Because she quite clearly said beforehand she wasn't turning up.

JC actually also said he wasn't turning up, then changed his mind at the last minute.

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 23:41

Yes, he played a blinder didn't he?

What about Woman's Hour - she's refused to take part in that.

Maybe she's planning to take that line regarding Brexit too, which would be understandable as she clearly doesn't have a plan.
