The dress is the abomination of desolation. Me and dh go into our lovejy new M&S shop to laugh at the clothes and get a coffee.

Yes, they do some awful things.

But occasionally some really pretty, even stunning things!

I enjoy a good moan about them though.

MixedUpShookUpGirl · 27/05/2017 09:39

One thing M&S do brilliantly though is the lay-out of their shops. I can see everything! Whereas Debenhams and all these other stores are so higgedly piggedly I have to wander round looking at rails in corners and badly laid out, all squashed together etc. Whereas M&S I can walk through it and in 15 minutes see if there's something I like!

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 27/05/2017 09:40

That pink dress . Its like a 1970s nightie . Its horrible

Sparkletastic · 27/05/2017 09:44

Grazia are loving the hideous pink dress and predicting it will sell out instantly Shock

Cantusethatname · 27/05/2017 09:47

There's a lot of yellow....

NormaSmuff · 27/05/2017 09:47

there are a Lot worse shirts if you click on the link.

Usernamegone · 27/05/2017 09:48

It's not necessarily the prints (as I like bold prints) it more that their clothes are like shapeless smocks

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/05/2017 09:48

Wouldn't want that top myself, but don't think it's too bad. That pink dress, on the other hand....
I've thought for ages that M&S should sack most of their buyers - I don't know what they're thinking of. Hideous garish colours and horrible patterns, and things that might just be nice if not for fussy bits and trims ruining them. I'm sure the buyers wouldn't be seen dead in 90% of the stuff they think good enough for their customers.

However some of their plain linen stuff is nice. I bought 3 pairs of plain linen trousers the other day - and a plain linen shirt. At least you know with M&S linen that it's not going to shrink in the wash. Which is more than you can say for some other brands at twice the price.

Fortunatepiggy · 27/05/2017 09:49

I agree crumbs. I used to buy lots of workwear in m and s and jeggings and look best in faux wrap dresses with three quarter sleeves but can't find them anywhere. Jeggings now have no zip so look cheap. Hideous prints .. I'm 40 and want stylish but easy to wear .. Can't be that difficult. Agree buyers should be replaced immediately

Lweji · 27/05/2017 09:51

Btw, I don't think they chose the right model for the top. Her skin colour would suit more warm tones, IMO. The top suits more pale, or cold toned skin.

TSSDNCOP · 27/05/2017 09:52

Mixed I think you cannot have been to Bluewater. I haven't been able to win the Where Have They Put The Fucking Tights Now game for years.

SailAwaySailAwaySailAway · 27/05/2017 10:01

I want a shop where all the trousers are in one place and displayed by colour. Ditto the skirts etc etc. I.want a hand held thing so when I've found a piece I like, I can scan it and the thing will show me what goes with it. When I click something I like, I want it to navigate me to it in the shop. I want a kind of store/internet combo because I like to try on and feel clothes before buying. I don't like having to rootle through a jumble sale layout to find stuff though.

madcatwoman61 · 27/05/2017 10:09

Well it appears to be sold out in every size up to 18, so some people are wearing it. I'm afraid I actually love a lot of the Per Una things at the moment so must be a weirdo

NormaSmuff · 27/05/2017 10:11

unless they just didnt make many? because they just Knew

SailAwaySailAwaySailAway · 27/05/2017 10:11

Still plenty in my local M&S

ElsieMc · 27/05/2017 10:12

Their basic t shirts, vest tops etc are still okay, much better than Nexts the majority of which go out of shape straight away.

The pink dress, well I am in my fifties and I swear I wore that as a bridesmaid in the late sixties. I sulked all day then.

I am sick of the queues in the food hall and the unhelpful staff. Long queues in the aisles and two tills open with no quick till manned. I think there is an ingrained arrogance in our store and I know people who have actually rung the manager (at home) and have told him to sort matters out. It got better for a short while with a sign up asking customers to approach him, but it has gone back to shit again.

They are also putting up their food prices - their larger lasagne has now shrunk and you have to buy two costing £12 rather than £8 previously. I saw people putting stuff back last weekend. When I challenged it, I was told I must not have bought any for a long time. What? It is now cheaper to go to a decent takeaway for a Chinese or thai than buy there.

Sorry to go off topic here op and I don't think their clothing is sustainable any more.

SinglePringle · 27/05/2017 10:14

The blue top, pink dress and yellow 'suit' are abominations. In fact, the yellow outfit will assist those costume designers prepping for any upcoming productions of Aladdin.

The cream dress, however, is possibly good. Needs to be examined in the flesh.

reuset · 27/05/2017 10:17

I've seen that hideous pink nylon dress in the window of two M & S shops! I don't believe it's meant to be worn at all, but is one of those talking points to draw people in and create interest Grin There's even a technical term for this, but I can't honestly remember what it is.

Patchwork top looks like young children's clothing.

Benedikte2 · 27/05/2017 10:21

Well the mixed reactions on here prove that M&S are getting it right for some tastes but that the majority aren't satisfied.
My beef is that there is such a limited choice -- if I can find something I like in style and size there is often only colour or pattern. Colours and patterns I love donr come in my size. On one occasion only one unwired bra in my size ( not particularly unusual size) and only in white. I have fibromyalgia so wired bras are acutely uncomfortable. Then as I left the store there was a sign that said there was a great choice for all! I hate white bras because they start looking dowdy after a few washes and I don't think wanting a black bra is being very unreasonable/picky!

reuset · 27/05/2017 10:22

Elsie, I was complaining to somebody about M & S staff the other day. The majority are almost rude compared to the customer service I remember years ago, and other similar shops.

JaceLancs · 27/05/2017 10:31

They still do jeggings with zips I've just bought some
I also bought a white linen top and a black linen dress for work
There is a lot I wouldn't go near especially per Una but in the bigger stores it is still possible to find things - just a pity popular sizes sell out so quickly

MiladyThesaurus · 27/05/2017 10:33

Grazia should come to my local M&S. The pink dress appears to be in no danger of selling out instantly.

Is the cream dress just the punk dress in cream with a huge floral motif?

I went in there yesterday an looked round all the clothes but didn't see anything I liked at all. They were trying to push a lot of yellow frilly stuff and I would look especially horrible in yellow frilly stuff.
