Not being offered drink in hairdressers

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 16:37

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

I work on the rule of thumb that if I'm paying a lot I expect refreshments! Pay peanuts you get monkeys with hairdressers! Why couldn't you politely ask? I do if they forget

picturesoffirelight · 30/05/2017 20:20

Yes, definitely expect a drink to be offered. Drink and small wrapped biscuit usually. I'm there approx two hours with some waiting, so am always offered magazines and coffee.
Dh's hairdresser has some sort of TV viewing above or near each seat in addition to drinks offered!

Bmh54 · 30/05/2017 20:37

I like to be asked if I would like a tea or coffee..And tbh..most hairdressers these days do charge enough! ..I had my hair done at home for years..but changed to going to a salon to have a break from being in my kitchen!.I wouldn't dream of drinking my coffee when they were cutting my hair..more like when the colour is on and cooking time....It's not much for the hairdresser to offer you a drink..and it is good customer service!..mine does..you can have latte..cappuccino..whatever!..Smile

AlpacaPicnic · 30/05/2017 20:39

My hairdresser used to bring me coffee regularly but I was in there for hours at a time, having my hair dyed two different but very bright colours. So first the bleaching, then the drying, then the dying then the drying again! And she used to ply me with iced water as the dye was heat set so I used to be under this crazy octopus heat lamp, going bright red... not too bad in winter but summer was awful.

When I got married I actually spent a whole day in there getting very long brightly coloured extensions put into my very thick brightly coloured hair, and then curled. Looked amazing but took close to six hours... with breaks built in for her and me to recover! That day I took a packed lunch - and cake for all the staff.

Clumsymumsy22 · 30/05/2017 20:54

The posh ones offer you a drink. You get what you pay for really

PinkPanther27 · 30/05/2017 20:58

Def first world problems

TheEternalForever · 30/05/2017 21:24

Last time I went to the hairdresser's they asked if I wanted a tea or coffee and I said no thanks. They came back with a coffee (obviously just a mistake, it was busy that day) and I felt so guilty that they'd made it for no reason that I drank half the cup anyway. I bloody hate coffee. It was all I could do to stop myself gagging. I didn't want them to have wasted it/gone to the effort for nothing.

Anyway, now I've finished sailing over the point, a cuppa is nice but not required. You don't go to the hairdressers to have a drink. And tbf 2 hours isn't all that long in a hairdressers anyway. You might've been offered one if you'd been there longer.

pollymere · 30/05/2017 21:40

Everyone probably assumed you'd be asked and said no! When this happens, I always ask for one and then they're hugely apologetic and usually bring extra biscuits or something!

Gracielaw · 30/05/2017 21:50

Last salon I went to I had 2 gin and tonics !

havingablondemoment · 30/05/2017 21:55

15 years in the industry, no violins needed but your stylist may have been on his/her feet for several hours by the time it's your turn in the chair, with no break and with clients at various stages of development in the salon. We love what we do (we're not in it for the money or lack of) and your comfort as a paying client is our priority, but we are human and sometimes we forget to offer little things like a drink. Just ask if we forget- we'll be apologetic and a little embarrassed and get you whatever you need.
Most restaurants now give you water for the table, if this wasn't forthcoming would you moan after or simply ask a passing staff member of you could have some water?

thetreesarealive · 30/05/2017 22:11

I don't think I've ever been offered a drink at a hair salon in my whole life. Clearly not living the dream...

Celtickitten · 30/05/2017 22:12

I always get offered drinks - always get coffee but could have wine. Mind you my colour and cut costs £100 so I'd bloody hope so!! If they forgot I'd definitely ask. The drinks, head massage and glossy mags I would never normally buy are the best bit about the whole experience!

BlondeB83 · 30/05/2017 22:19

Mine always offer a drink but I never have one.

MotherofPearl · 30/05/2017 22:37

I'm not too bothered about the drinks, although they are always offered at my salon. I'm always devastated mildly put out though if someone else is in the massage chair at the hair washing sinks (4 sinks only 1 has a massage chair).

AhhhhThatsBass · 30/05/2017 22:39

I go to a nice salon in SW3, they have a full menu and if you want something, you pay for it. Never t even so much as a glass of tap water.

bbismad · 30/05/2017 22:58

Sorry but grow up...if you wanted a drink so desperately, you should've asked. My word, the rubbish on here...

FFS honestly get a fucking grip!

persianpeach · 31/05/2017 00:35

I definitely think you should have been offered a drink and it's downright rude they didn't offer you one!
It should be part of the service when you are paying a good sum of money and spending a few hours there that a drink should be offered!! 😤

avamiah · 31/05/2017 00:46

Offred,
Hahaha,
I've just laughed out aloud
All these posts about a cup of tea/coffee.😶
I'm worried about the electricity bill that I got today.😬☹️

Offred · 31/05/2017 00:51

I know! W.T.A.F?!?

Offred · 31/05/2017 00:55

Being concerned enough to post on MN about this.... just honestly absolutely fucking speechless.... there is a general election in 8 days and nurses and fucking policemen are going to fucking foodbanks... just completely and utterly contemptible.... you want a poorly paid hairdresser to make you a fucking drink for free?!?! Just WTAF?!?!

Offred · 31/05/2017 00:59

And 'pampering' experience... 30,000 unnecessary DEATHS due to cuts to public services in 2015.... just what is going on in your head?!?!?!?

user1491572121 · 31/05/2017 01:00

I hate food and drink in salons. One that I went to gave people a complete "snacking tray" with bits of meat and cheese and crisps!

It stank of ham in there, when it should have smelled like nice hair products!

People can't stop chewing! Just wait or bring water in a bottle FFS.
