Not being offered drink in hairdressers

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 16:37

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

What also makes the experience less pleasurable than I'd expect is the fact that the mirrors make me look HIDEOUS. Far worse than I really do look. The lack of drink was quite frankly the 'straw'.

I've never seen a salon that offers drinks.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/05/2017 16:54

I always declined because could never work out how suppose to drink it whilst they doing your hair, unless having it coloured.

My dentist always offers hot beverages or cold bottles of water, I feel the membership is worthy of that alone Grin

Allthebestnamesareused · 25/05/2017 16:55

If they usually do it I guess they just forgot. I'd have probably asked for one!

BiddyPop · 25/05/2017 16:55

My hairdresser has a coffee machine that he produces in some houses.

As I tend to be an evening client, and have a decent machine myself, he leaves it in the van for me.

He's quite happy though for me to have tea, coffee or even finish my glass of wine from dinner, as the case may be.....and he hoovers the floor before he leaves Grin

Kokusai · 25/05/2017 16:55

I'm the opposite - I hate having a drink at the hairdressers!

Same!

SapphireStrange · 25/05/2017 16:56

I'd always decline, for 'leaning forward and backwards to get the cup' type reasons and because you can end up with bits ofchopped-off hair floating in your tea.

But I think they should always offer. It's part of the service IMO.

emilybrontescorset · 25/05/2017 16:56

I'm with you op, it's part of the pamper experience.

sonjadog · 25/05/2017 16:57

I never get offered a drink, I didn't realise it was a "thing".

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 16:57

Am seething with jealousy at some of the replies here ... Wine? Sandwich? Biscuits?! My previous hairdressers was more like janeeyre's. Plus they had quite up to date glossies to read.

I've always been offered coffee tea etc whatever salon I use (no extra charge)

OlennasWimple · 25/05/2017 16:59

I don't think I'd want a hairdresser who was constantly on the vino, Donald! I need them to be able to cut straight!

What is it, though, about sitting in that chair that makes it so hard to say what you really feel? I know so many women who are authoritative the rest of the time but sit there and let the hairdresser butcher their hair, but smile and agree it looks lovely rather than say anything. Or not ask for a drink when they are thirsty!

Jaxhog · 25/05/2017 17:00

I think it depends on what they charge. Mine should offer champagne, but sadly only offers coffee. No biscuit. They do include a head massage though. Couldn't do without that.

CadnoDrwg · 25/05/2017 17:00

I can have my hair cut, coloured and styled for £32

They do a great job...I honestly couldn't care less that they don't offer me a drink.

SailAwaySailAwaySailAway · 25/05/2017 17:01

I had a nasty experience in my ex hairdressers. I accepted a coffee and was getting through it when I looked in the mirror and noticed a massive thick pinky red lippy print on the other side of the cup.
I wasn't wearing lippy.
Boaktastic.

jarhead123 · 25/05/2017 17:05

I'm always offered a drink, but generally say no. I'd just ask next time

jennymac · 25/05/2017 17:08

I always buy a coffee in the café next door and bring it with me. In my experience, the coffee they serve in hairdressers is pure rank!

Boulshired · 25/05/2017 17:09

Mine always offer once the foils are on, coffee and a biscuit and a choice of magazine.

CaptainHammer · 25/05/2017 17:09

I'm always offered a drink in my salon.
I would ask if I wasn't offered and wanted one though.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 25/05/2017 17:12

I always imagine tiny bits of cut hair floating into drinks so I decline.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 25/05/2017 17:13

If they have facilities for making tea and coffee and usually offer you one, then it's definitely OK to ask. Possibly there was a problem like the kettle breaking and they couldn't yesterday.

I think I've only been offered a drink in a couple of salons I have been to. One did have white wine and champagne as well as tea or coffee which was nice. Normally I don't get offered anything.

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 17:13

It is a small, family run business and she was on her own, but it only takes a couple of minutes to make an instant coffee - I'm not fussy! Mind you, last time I was there she'd run out of coffee Hmm

Shock Where are you having your hair done? The 1970s?

Having moved about a lot and lived in various countries, I have only ever been to one hair salon that didn't offer a drink. I asked for one in the end when it became apparent I was not going to be offered. If you are sat there for hours having a lot done, it is a long time to go without!

amusedbush · 25/05/2017 17:21

The last time I went to a salon that offered drinks, I paid £45 to have my head butchered. I had to go back to have it fixed by the head stylist for free.

I now go to a tiny local place where they don't offer drinks but it's £17 for a great cut and finish.
