Not being offered drink in hairdressers

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 16:37

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

FFS, if that's all you have to moan about in life then you are very lucky.

Deathstarevicki · 30/05/2017 18:41

The salon I used to go to, charged customers to blow dry their hair after colouring it. I couldn't believe it. How bad for business watching people leave with soaking wet hair. How would they know if they like the results too.

Some people are just money grabbers

iMogster · 30/05/2017 18:53

I'm usually in hair salon for 3 to 3 1/2 hours and they offer 2 free hot or cold drinks. They also offer wine, but I choose not to have it!

Oldieandgoldie · 30/05/2017 18:58

when she was jailed... For drink driving hmm been doing it myself since then!

ShockShockShock hopefully not drink driving?? WinkWinkGrinGrin

Lollipopslife17 · 30/05/2017 19:00

Katelocks- the add cost of the drink to your bill? 😲
That is so ridiculous. I do not drink at salons because of hair falling everywhere. I just say no when asked.

Ravenblack · 30/05/2017 19:03

First few posts in and the old 'first world problems' Chestnut came out. Wink

FFS, we ALL moan about them, and the First world problems shit is getting boring now.

Even when I have a TRIM I get offered a drink. I usually say no as I take a bottle of water, and I don't like anyone's coffee except mine (and the ones you get in the coffee shops and restaurants.) 2 out of 3 times that someone makes me a coffee, it's tastes like shite. Sometimes limey, often watery, and some people use awful cheap nasty coffee; bleh!

But yeah, if you have been there 2 hours, you would probably be spending 50 quid plus, so it's very bad etiquette for them to not offer you a drink.

Yawn Hmm

Ravenblack · 30/05/2017 19:06

And people saying 'if that's all you have got to worry about in life you are very lucky...' FGS! Some people are so pious. Hmm Are people not allowed a good whinge about niggly things?! That's what we humans do. Leave us alone! Hmm

ofudginghell · 30/05/2017 19:08

All salons should offer refreshments in my opinion.
It's good customer service and part of the relaxing time for clients.
We have an expensive coffee machine that does about 8 or 9 diff types of coffee aswel as lots of different teas.
We add hot frothy milk and chocolate sprinkles. Smile
We also offer more than once of clients are having longer treatments and we spend a fortune on a giant stack of glossies to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Some people go to salons as they need their hair done and want to be in and out. See it more of a chore.
Some people love having a few hours in a relaxing environment with good beverages and glossies and a relax room with massage chairs etc etc.

The higher prices the services are the more effort has gone into the salon.

Doesn't matter how busy a stylist is clients should still be offered the same as when it's quieter.

DragonNoodleCake · 30/05/2017 19:11

You get a menu of teas, coffees and cordials at my salon love it! They offer more than once too. I agree it's part of the experience.

JanetStWalker · 30/05/2017 19:13

The word 'pampering' and all it entails makes me queasy.

You should have been offered a drink though, it's polite.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/05/2017 19:16

I don't like 'pampering' either but being offered a drink is basic service imo.

manicmij · 30/05/2017 19:17

Would not accept a tea/coffee or anything to eat or drink at hairdresser. The thought of all that hair, dust and fluff flying around - yuck! Take a bottle of water with you.

simiisme · 30/05/2017 19:19

BC (before children) when I had a lot more disposable income, I used to go to a 'posh' salon. One of those that had a whole list of hairstylists, 'Stylist; Senior stylist; Style Director; Stylist Superman' you get the drift. Always went to the same chap, always for the last appointment of the day, and he'd crack open a bottle of wine and whip out the ashtray so we could both have a drink, fag and a good old natter.
Loved it.

Boomcack · 30/05/2017 19:26

I was in hairdressers today for five hours, was lucky to get water. To be honest it's not compulsory for them to do this although nice when it happens.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 30/05/2017 19:28

'Take a bottle of water' - I don't want water I want coffee!

I always get offered at least two coffees at my hairdresser. Would ask if they didn't offer though. Costs me £90 a go and there for two hours so it's nice to get them.

chompychompychompchomp · 30/05/2017 19:33

chompy do you not feel the tiniest bit embarrassed at having so much food and drink for £2.50?

Grilledaubergines, no, I don't. It seems as if everyone else there is taking full advantage of the '£2.50 all you can eat/drink deal' and my stylist actively promotes it as a bargain!

I spend quite a lot on my hair each time - think £200-£250 - plus tips, so I think it's fair enough for the salon to provide cheap drinks and snacks. I'm not bothered about roots showing so only go about 3 times a year.

GabsAlot · 30/05/2017 19:37

family business on her own she must hav ejust been sidetracked and forgot

next time ask

jazzandh · 30/05/2017 19:39

Mine has a list to choose from - it's like a bar menu! Tea, coffee, cordials, red wine, white wine, beer (these come wine small bags of peanuts!)

If you are in for a longer colouring session - it's bliss. I make sure my appointments are after lunch!

angelfacecuti75 · 30/05/2017 19:39

Not every salon does xx

cheval · 30/05/2017 19:43

I take a bottle of water with me. Don't like the tea they serve.
Also. I always give gardener a tea/soft drink. Last time was with new assistant, I was rushing to go somewhere, so didn't offer. Next thing, knock on door from young buck asking for a drink. Which I thought was dead cheeky. But I gave in and supplied. I do pay them quite a lot!

totolouise · 30/05/2017 19:43

Ravenblack, not deeply religious or devout at all, just can think of much more important things in life to complain about. I guess some people have more time on their hands than others though! She has a tongue in her mouth and if she was offended by not being offered a drink (be it water, tea, coffee, whatever) she could have used it, and requested one!

NoPressureNoDiamonds · 30/05/2017 19:45

Reading through these I just don't get the association with food/drink and having your hair done. If you're there for hours of course you'd need a drink but honestly, I always just have a bottle of water in my bag whatever I'm doing. I don't need to eat or have a hot drink every 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes I get offered one, sometimes I don't but the idea of not going back to a good salon because of not being offered a drink seems nuts to me!

HappyFlappy · 30/05/2017 20:05

I get my hair cut at a mens' barber. He has never even once offered me a cup of tea or coffee, or a head massage*.

However, it only costs £7.20 and isn't stowed out just before Christmas. Don't make an appointment, just climb the stairs to the "salon" above the chip shop.

*hasn't offered me "something for the weekend", either Grin

Lovelymess · 30/05/2017 20:08

Why didn't you just ask them for a drink if you were thirsty Confused
