Not being offered drink in hairdressers

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

I love my organic hairdressers in Birmingham! Lots of choice of drinks including wine Wine

Here's a quote from their website:

Our salon is a welcoming and relaxing place with a high focus on sustainability and environmental friendliness. We recycle as much of our waste as possible including our hair cuttings and our biodegradable towels! All of our refreshments are organic and and the furniture and fittings in the salon are all vegan friendly. We have a relaxation area to sit whilst treatments process and offer a healthy lunch at a small extra cost!

I find food and drink at the hairdresser very un-hygienic... all that hair floating around and the chemicals in the air! Thanks but no thanks!

Ylvamoon me too! It just doesn't mix.

Offred I've seen that...FFS it doesn't mean I can't have ANY other conversations today.

Cheap shot really.

That poor woman's plight is awful and I hate the system for doing it to her.

But this thread has FUCK all to do with it!

Offred · 31/05/2017 04:08

Ppl expecting low wage employees to make them a drink as well as do the work they are being paid to do has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with it.

Think how she would feel re her situation reading this utterly trivial shit when she can't even get decent housing or proper medicine.

Honestly, the OP wants a low wage employee to make her a drink as well as cut her hair.... tortally crass and infuriating.

Oh stop it. You can't deny that it's a commonly carried out habit in salons and it's usually the trainee who does this.

I was a trainee in a salon at 14 and I did the teas as well as swept up the hair and handed out the rollers.

It was part of my job! I learned the trade as I went and got tipped quite often too.

Personally, I dont really care if I get offered a drink or not as long as they are good at the actual service I am there for.
I once went to a hairdressers for a head of foils, and was there 8 hours, the lady doing my hair was rude and forgetful. My appointment was for 10 in the morning, the manager forgot about me, she went to make a call to the bank and never came back. After 6 hours all the other hairdressers had finished for the day and were doing each others hair and I was still sitting there with my foils on and the manager hadn't been seen for hours. I'm a high anxiety person and eventually plucked up the courage to ask what was going on. I was offered a drink, but I don't like tea or coffee so ended up sitting there with a luke warm glass of tap water, which I would have rejected except for the fact I'd been there so long. I chose this salon because I'd heard it super fancy and luxurious, my hair really looked no difference and I was just in shock. Whether they offer you a drink makes no difference as long as I have a pleasant experiance and nice hair.
I now go to someone for £30 for a wash, cut and blow-dry. But he is amazing and is the only hairdresser I have seen who understands my vision when I talk to him. And whether I get thay instant coffee or watered down squash makes no difference, because I always come out looking and feeling amazing.

offred - calm down. Since when did AIBU become a domain for serious/politically relevant issues only??

Do you think I have no other problems/issues in RL? Perhaps, just maybe, I do - but I don't post on MN about them as I prefer to seek RL help.

I refuse to be guilt- tripped into posting a particular way just because some angry internet warrior says so.

There are some real sanctimonious windbags on MNHmm good grief do you seriously think some of us have no issues at all? In my case it's because I have tons going on that I post about trivial nonsense on MN,as a distraction. Don't breeze into a thread and derail it to make yourself feel holier than thou when you have NO idea what's going on in some people's lives.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 31/05/2017 08:39

Jesus of all the trivial threads to criticise as first world problems! I can like a coffee at the hairdresser and care about more important things!

Lweji · 31/05/2017 09:19

Some of us don't even live in the UK. Smile

38cody · 31/05/2017 11:37

Why not just ask? Hardly worth being miffed over.

FrenchJunebug · 31/05/2017 12:03

YABU I dislike being offered drinks at the hairdresser. It's awkward to drink, gets cold and hair gets in it.

jade9390 · 10/06/2017 02:13

This is embarrassing and makes us mums look like dickheads. Many of us have been to high class salons and cheaper ones. Not all offer drinks, some charge and even have a menu. It sounds like they may have been busy, ran out or stopped it to save costs. If you really wanted one, you simply could have asked.
