Not being offered drink in hairdressers

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

I had no idea that some hair dressers offer drinks!

WritingHome · 29/05/2017 21:54

I always get offered tea or coffee (latte / cappuchino) / hot chocolate and a posh chocolate on the side. They used to do teeny cup cakes but recently switched to posh chocolates. I have frequently been offered a glass of prosecco too, especially if I have a Friday afternoon appointment or in the summer.

The basin chairs recline so your legs are up and they have a massage built in and they regularly give an Indian head massage too while doing the conditioner.

Just as well really as with my grey hair I spend far too much money there as it is!

roywoodsbeard · 29/05/2017 22:20

At my hairdressers I'm always offered tea or coffee, free of charge.

Best ever was on holiday in Turkey. DH decides to get a haircut at a local barbers. It's hot, so I sit waiting for him outside. One of the employees of the barbers then runs across the busy road to the cafe opposite, coming back with a Turkish tea for me Smile

I haven't visited a hair salon in 5 years due to having a fab hairdresser come to my home since the hair salon she used to work for had a big falling out with her and she quit and set up on her own mobile hairdressing, the salon she used to work at and salons I've visited previously always offered a drink especially if I was there having a lengthy treatment done thought it was the done thing!

ittakes2 · 30/05/2017 17:33

I'm puzzled why if you wanted a drink, why you didn't ask for one.

Slurrycart · 30/05/2017 17:38

I've always been slightly wary of accepting offers of drinks at the hairdressers since I saw a junior wash tea cups and glasses by giving them an idle swirl of less than 5 seconds each under the tap.

cherish123 · 30/05/2017 17:39

Could have brought own water. You might get hairs in the tea or coffee - it has happened to me. Why would you expect to be pampered? You are having your haircut. Hairdressers are paid min wage so providing drinks may not be top of their priority list.

AlexRose5 · 30/05/2017 17:41

I used to work at a hairdressers as a teen... brews were offered to people who had a long treatment but if none of the junior staff (me!) were there the senior stylists saw it as below their station to play the tea girl so would never offer a client a drink. I agree it takes a little of the shine off where making a fuss of the customer was concerned ... But they were top notch stylists , and that's what people should judge them for....
Not their hosting skills.

Homebirdmama · 30/05/2017 17:46

As some one who worked as a hairdresser for a lot of my very early career, I would NEVER not offer anyone a drink! Even if I knew they'd only be in the chair 20 mins for a quick cut!

YANBU. I'd be really miffed too.

damewithaname · 30/05/2017 17:46

Nothing to be miffed about.

Lallypop · 30/05/2017 17:49

I think it really depends on their prices.

gribak · 30/05/2017 17:54

I like to be offered a drink - regardless of whether or not I want one. If you were in someone's home for 2 hours they would offer you a drink. If you were there for 2 hours, you must have been having colours done etc and pend a fair bit of money. I want to be pampered when I have my hair done, its a treat for me and I get so little opportunity for time off!

Mollymutkin · 30/05/2017 18:00

I get offered tea, coffee (choice of coffees) or a cold drink on arrival and again later at my salon. Served in a ceramic tray and with a biscuit, sometimes a little pot of popcorn or a chocolate. For the price I pay and time I spend, products I buy there id be pretty p'd off if I didn't get one!

Flipsidecatch · 30/05/2017 18:03

I never got a drink in the cheap hairdressers I went to when I was a student, but older ladies did. Really rude and bad customer service.

tronstermonster · 30/05/2017 18:06

I went to Costa coffee shop yesterday and guess what? They didn't even offer to cut my hair!!!

Krisgoeco · 30/05/2017 18:09

I'm actually jealous of your problems.

Magiconthemike · 30/05/2017 18:11

In fairness, I now take being offered a drink as a sign a hairdresser is "proper". That said, I wish I had your hairdresser "problems".

In my quest for a decent hairdresser, I've left a salon with soaking wet hair (on more than one occasion, from more than one salon), been given a towel with gum on it and had my scalp burnt to the point it was weeping.

I was 21 before I realised hairdressers are supposed to show you the back of your head with a mirror before you leave.
Genuinely.

oldkeywest · 30/05/2017 18:11

I try and have 2 cups of tea at mine as they serve homemade tablet with it!

janies8212 · 30/05/2017 18:12

My hairdresser always offers hot/cold drinks but has started cutting back on biscuits. It must add to the cost of my haircut/colour but it's one I'm willing to pay.

LookingforMaryPoppins · 30/05/2017 18:20

My salon offers drinks! Great selection including wine :)

JAPAB · 30/05/2017 18:23

This year was the first time I was ever offered a cup of tea or coffee at the barbers. Never occurred to me to ask for one before, either. But then I suppose the rules are different.

MuvaWifey77 · 30/05/2017 18:23

Only here to her to read the comments and laugh! Lol (sorry) 😬

chompy do you not feel the tiniest bit embarrassed at having so much food and drink for £2.50?

Lottahugz · 30/05/2017 18:31

Note to self - I need to change hairdressers, oh wait! I dress my own hair!! Confused
