Not being offered drink in hairdressers

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

The only hairdresser I've ever liked would give you a glass of wine, unfortunately the salon closed down when she was jailed... For drink driving Hmm been doing it myself since then!

Addley · 29/05/2017 17:43

Drinks? Biscuits? Head massages? This is a different world. Are you going to these places for recreational purposes? Like, a leisure activity or something? I just go to get my hair cut. It's like having my tyres rotated or something, just a job that has to be done. Can't imagine wanting to make an experience of it Confused and am just glad when it's over as quickly as possible and competently done.

Giddyaunt18 · 29/05/2017 17:44

I'm usually there for 3 hours and am always offered a drink. I went on Saturday and ad a coffee on arrival, then when they left me to 'develop' I was offered another and I had a glass of water. Perhaps they thought you had already been asked.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2017 17:44

Yes,little biscuit on the saucer too. I don't think I've ever been to a salon that didn't offer a drink, even really basic ones have.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2017 17:45

Ooooooo yes,the head massages are out of this world, they even say " pressure ok for you?" Grin

Addley · 29/05/2017 17:45

I mean, fair enough, if you're sitting there for three hours or something maybe a cuppa would be nice but not much beyond that.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2017 17:50

I object to the telly positioned by the sinks so you can watch it while you're having your hair washed, seriously, you're they're for 10 mins max,if you can't do without a screen for a few minutes you have bigger issues than your hair!

SuperFlyHigh · 29/05/2017 17:55

I've always been offered tea or coffee and Lotus biscuits at all salons I've been to whether for cut or colour.

Prosecco also offered too sometimes.

chocoblock · 29/05/2017 18:01

I wouldn't mind not being offered a drink would rather have a hairdresser who could cut my hair how I wan't it, my hair is a hairdressers nightmare! no matter where I go they never do it right, I am not blaming the hairdressers it's my hair! it's curly and thick and I straighten it with straighteners but when I get it cut they never seem to be able to do it in any style at all it's just a mop dread going to have it cut also it grows outwards more than downwards

kfii · 29/05/2017 18:04

Hold up, does everyone else's salons have loos? I have in the part refused drink as I know I will need to use a loo.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2017 18:06

Of course there are loos!!!

Chocoblock it's not your hair,a good experienced stylist will know how to cut curly hair - it's a whole different ball game to straight hair.

SuperFlyHigh · 29/05/2017 18:06

kfii yes everyone's salons have loos as that's where the staff go!

You should always ask if you have a drink and want to use the toilet, they don't mind usually at all!

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2017 18:07

Mine has a loo. You have to ask, but if im in there ages then i have to use the facilities! I feel bad asking them though..

daisypond · 29/05/2017 18:08

I wouldn't want a drink.

Pippapotomus · 29/05/2017 18:11

The hairdressers I take my dc to have a coffee machine and a tray of cups and biscuits. You help yourself, it's awesome.

They do lovely cuts, but never manage to get my roots right, so I use a different one. At mine drinks are added onto the bill, including water with a slice of lemon.

kfii · 29/05/2017 18:12

I always assumed it was like a standard loo-free shop. I've never seen a sign or anything so assumed there wasn't, feeling a tad stupid now...

caoraich · 29/05/2017 18:12

I go round to my hairdresser's house to get my hair done.

It's usually about 8pm when I go so I get a G&T then we both have bacon butties while we wait for the foils. I love my hairdresser. Grin

But no, I would probably have expected the offer of at least a glass of water given how much you're probably spending!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/05/2017 18:13

I always use the facilities as they have really lovely hand wash and hand cream Grin

PaintingOwls · 29/05/2017 18:14

They should have offered. I haven't NOT been offered a drink since 2009.

If this was me I'd just say "any chance of a glass of water?" and see if they say yes / sorry / offer tea as well.

yaela123 · 29/05/2017 18:30

That's weird - I don't think any of the hairdressers I've been to have ever offered me drinks Confused

yaela123 · 29/05/2017 18:33

Addley Me too

toffeeboffin · 29/05/2017 18:35

You should be offered a drink imho.

It's part of the pampering process.

NoParticularPattern · 29/05/2017 18:36

My hairdresser comes to me. Should I offer myself a cuppa?! Or maybe I should point to the kettle and tell here "away you go!"?!

High quality problems as my old boss used to say!!

user1487941567 · 29/05/2017 18:38

Seriously, what kind of salons are you lot going to that you don't get offered a drink?! Shock Even when I take the kids to the Turkish barbers we all get offered a drink!

user1487941567 · 29/05/2017 18:39

I have always been offered a drink in various salons in all my 36 years. It has never not happened.
