Not being offered drink in hairdressers

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 16:37

Had hair done yesterday in local salon, there for nearly 2 hours. Wasn't offered a drink once. I've been offered tea/coffee before and I see it as all part of the 'pampering' experience you expect at a hairdressers. Should I have asked for one?? I felt embarrassed about it so didn't. But 2 bloody hours!! I still feel quite miffed about it.

Why on earth would you want to drink instant coffee?

Just awaiting my turn in 'the chair' £10 for a trim.

No wash, no highlights, no lowlights, no perm, no rollers, no inane chat about what conditioner to use (as I don't use such things)
No fretting over the grey and worrying that my roots will start showing a week after the cut.

velourvoyageur · 25/05/2017 17:26

Seriously... some of you go to salons that don't offer you a drink???

As do you, OP....pleb life eh.

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2017 17:30

You can't possibly have your hair cut without a cup of tea and a Lotus biscuit - WHere the hell do you people live? Shock

My hairdresser has a fully stocked bar, I love getting my hair done Grin

Why on earth would you want to drink instant coffee?

Eh? Who mentioned instant coffee?? Being offered instant would be more offensive that not being offered a drink at all! Wink

Do people still drink instant coffee???!

The last time I wasn't offered a drink at a salon I'd grown to sort-of like was the last time I went! And I told them why I wouldn't be recommending them when I was paying, as they were trying to force a load of "Recommend a Friend" cards on me. The woman said "would you like a drink now?" Confused Hmm Er, no thanks, I don't fancy sitting in a hairdresser's waiting room in my coat with a drink...

BeyondThePage · 25/05/2017 17:44

went to get my hair done yesterday - offered a baileys iced coffee mocha from a little tin poured over ice cubes. Was lush! (haircut+ straight dry was £45 though!)

RhythmAndStealth · 25/05/2017 17:52

My hairdresser offers homemade soup and crusty bread at lunchtime!

I think it depends on the salon. I've used a no frills one that offered nothing and that was fine given the price (although they did have a jog of water in the waiting bit). Another one with a truly amazing stylist where it was the done thing to pick him up a coffee from the artisan place next door (the salon did offer drinks tbf, but he was an artist...all the other hairdressers used to stand and watch him work). And other places with help yourself fridges with an array of beer, wine, juices and fizzy drinks.

Me264 · 25/05/2017 17:57

Mine offers me a drink when I arrive and then when they have finished putting the colour on and leave me while it sets they go and get me a fresh one.

I have been to one before though that added a charge for a cup of tea to the bill! I'd rather not be offered a drink than have to pay for it unexpectedly!

CarmenWedmore · 25/05/2017 18:00

hundred we have Nescafé Azera at home, I'd rather have that than nothing!

I've never ever been to any kind of hair salon or beauty salon that doesn't offer a drink.

Poor customer service

Scribblegirl · 25/05/2017 18:03

I purposefully book appointments for after 6 so I can sit there with a glass of wine while they sort out my mop. It's lovely Grin that said I'd rather lose the drink than the head massage - I'm absolutely mad about them and I never go back anywhere where I don't get one!

Timmytoo · 25/05/2017 18:08

I had the same when I went for a cut and highlights appointment! Two hour wait, my appointment was at 10, they saw me at 12pm.

Four hours there and no drink or toilet! The highlight fluid was dripping on my face and when I said it was burning for told it was just plain water!! Worst hair experience, on top of that the hair stylists were complaining about their boss to ME and they charged me extra as I had longer hair even though I had already been quoted the price. Then my hair went green so spent more time with them using toners. Worst hair experience ever.

They're closed down now not surprisingly Hmm

The other half before he was the other half and we were dating was visiting me at work in London from the States. He 'popped out' to get a quick hair cut but the silly bastard went in to Trevor Sorbie. He came back (looking fucking amazing) all merry, you get a cocktail and champagne menu to choose from, long head massage and £100 lighter.

He was horrified when I told him that's not even close to what I've spent having my hair dyed even and that future haircuts were rather dull. He thought the Brits were really amazing at haircuts. Grin

mummabubs · 25/05/2017 18:13

I always have an orange juice and my precious hairdressers used to offer cocktails! I have to say the drink part isn't the bit that makes or breaks it for me .... it's when you're not offered a head massage after you've had your hair washed! 😂😂😂

I pay about 25 quid fluffy. Last time I went the (new) hairdresser was so quick I was in and out and my feet barely touched the floor, never mind getting the chance to have a drink. Honestly, she was like Edward Scissorhands on speed. It was also the best cut I've had in years Grin.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2017 18:28

Take a bottle of water next time.

Mine offer tea in a tiny pot, hard to pour out while my poor hairdresser is trying to cut my mop ,then it goes cold or full up with hair.
Its a minefield.

Crispsheets · 25/05/2017 18:33

Proper coffee, section of teas, good wine from independent wine merchant and beers available in my salon.

SheGotOffThePlane · 25/05/2017 18:35

I got a trim today and was offered a coffee, a beer a wine or a water. I took the bottle of water because it was so hot, but I remember years ago I was there at tea time and had fish and chips and some fizzy juice Grin

CadnoDrwg · 25/05/2017 18:37

fluffy in terms of attitude yes 1970s sounds about right Grin

It's the little village I grew up in. She's been my hairdresser for 20 years and I think she's fab. I'd pay more than double to use her so do tip generously.

MyheartbelongstoG · 25/05/2017 18:39

Its only a drink!!

PeanutButterJellyTimeforTea · 25/05/2017 18:43

Mine does tea/coffee/latte etc with biscuits or toast for morning appts, sandwiches if its lunchtime or dinner time while you're there, and wine any time after lunch.

I like my salon.
