to wonder why these women wear gym clothes all the time

There are quite a few mums at my dc's primary who constantly wear lycra gym clothes. They drop off in them, pick up in them and generally seem to hang out in them all the time. From what I can see they don't actually do any exercise during the day so it puzzles me. Is it a comfort thing? I know it is none of my business and I don't know why I even care but I often wonder.

Fair enough. I think plain colours would be better if that's what they're being bought for solely though, not ones with designs that suggest exercise lol.

Ath-Leisure is now absolutely massive, a new trending phenomenon.... I'll never quite understand it but who am I to question lol

why do some people do the school run dressed like they are off to a dinner party?

They are weather presenters on TV?

I don't mind it but all the women in the Adult Education maths class came into the maths exam in their active wear last week, complete with active wear water bottle and (it's a boys school to sixth form) some of the boys wanted to know who they were. I told them to keep quiet and that they were under exam conditions but secretly thought I'd be confused too if I were sitting my GCSEs and there was a load of women in active wear sitting at the back

I would probably wear my gym gear most days partly because my wardrobe is crap and it would save me from thinking about what to wear, partly comfort, partly a hope I would go for a run. As it is I work and as yet it's not reached the status of acceptable workwear!

"The thing I'm more amazed about in this thread is all the women with school-age kids who can afford to not work but instead go to gym classes all day?!"

Just because someone doesn't go straight to after the school run everyday. Doesn't mean that they don't go to work at all!

I used to wear gym clothes all the time for drop off and pick up...but i would go to the gym after pick up....but then would be too busy to change after. My life went like this....drop off first child, drop off second child, go to gym, do a class, have a quick bite to eat, go to grocery shop, pick up second child, go home...busy w house and child chores...pick up first child w second child, park two hours, feed the kids, bath the kids, put second child to bed, read to first child, put first child to bed....finally time to shower and take off gym gear! But sometimes, I would skip the gym bc I was tired from all the walking (school run was an hour of walking with double buggy)...so I had plans to go to the gym and wore my gym clothes, but did not end up going. After a while...all the walking with a double buggy...I slowly stopped going to the gym bc I just didn't have enough energy and I am already slim....woudlnt be good to get any slimmer...so ditched gym gear as well. Now I wear normal clothes for pick up drop off :)

I'm sure some people go to work at some point during the day but At my school it is definitely a bit of a status thing. Only mums who don't need to work show up in active wear day in/day out. They also have perfect manicures and great hair, and they never seem to be in a hurry to get anywhere else. They look amazing and I would do the same if could!

Anyway I know IABU but can't help if im projecting my own insecurities ;)

I didn't know my belly was so offensive to people!, it's usually part of the deal when you hit menopause, I never worried about mine until then. It's your bodies way of trying to produce more oestrogen.

It's very hard to disguise though. There are some very ageist and weightest comments on here. It's really not acceptable to have a go at people because of weight and age.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/06/2017 13:09

I'm sitting in Sainsbury's café in my gym gear right now. In fairness I'm on my way to the gym and I couldn't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks of my belly or any other part of my body

I've been wearing gym clothes since I had DS 2 weeks ago. Had a section so the tight stretchy trousers hold my wobbly sore tummy in a treat. Although I usually just chuck on a long sleeved t shirt with them instead of the full regalia. Anyone who doesn't like it can fuck off, I'm up and dressed and that's a massive accomplishment some days.
