to wonder why these women wear gym clothes all the time

There are quite a few mums at my dc's primary who constantly wear lycra gym clothes. They drop off in them, pick up in them and generally seem to hang out in them all the time. From what I can see they don't actually do any exercise during the day so it puzzles me. Is it a comfort thing? I know it is none of my business and I don't know why I even care but I often wonder.

I do it because it makes me more likely to exercise. I get up, put on gym clothes and I swear that makes a workout 300% more likely to happen at some point during the day.

Don't know why it bothers people. I've seen clips on the internet laughing at women who wear gym clothes!

NotYoda · 24/05/2017 15:52

Kokusai

Work it like a Sweatshop Grin

How is it healthy to have your nethers spammed up in man-made fabrics for a whole say?

YouWhatMate · 24/05/2017 15:54

Why do you care? and
"From what I can see they don't actually do any exercise during the day..." How on earth would you know? And even if they didn't - so what?

usershitloadofnumbers · 24/05/2017 15:59

let's be honest, you would judge too if they were in a vintage dress and heels. Whatever you do, someone will smirk at you, so you might as well be comfortable. Gym clothes are everywhere, so cheap to buy and comfortable to use. It's more practical than the skinny jeans/ baggy top/ pumps that used to be everywhere.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 24/05/2017 16:07

Oh koKusai thank you , that video is great Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 16:09

Yes, I bought myself some Addidas and Nike leggings for Kickboxing, I end up wearing them, even if I am not doing exercise, as they are so comfy, much more than jeans or trousers. There are no rules that say you have to wear gym clothes for exercise only. So what, they aren't hurting you!

YoloSwaggins · 24/05/2017 16:14

Why do you care?

Why shouldn't she? Why do you care about this thread?

sheepskinshrug · 24/05/2017 16:17

Pretty much going or coming from a class or a run. I also have a painful health condition and when it is flaring clothes hurt - gym clothes not so much.
I remember a lecturer get upset with a student wearing a suit - he got all huffy about the student looking smarter than him - none of the lecturer's bloody business if you ask me - you'd think academics would have more lofty things to think about. Wink

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/05/2017 16:18

It's the athleisure look, innit! Comfy!

ShowOfHands · 24/05/2017 16:19

I have just picked up my dc and I'm wearing running tights and a vest. Because I've been running this afternoon.

TheLegendOfBeans · 24/05/2017 16:22

Kokusai that's actually hilarious Grin

Kokusai · 24/05/2017 16:24

I bleeding love the active wear video :-)

IonaNE · 24/05/2017 16:31

I go running. 5-6 mornings a week. And then I take off the lycra and don't wear that type of clothing, not in the house and not outside. I think it looks ridiculous, unless you are actually in the process of exercising. There are other types of comfortable clothes.

YouWhatMate · 24/05/2017 16:32

I wear it most days because it's comfortable. And then I don't change out of it to pick the kids up cos I'm not a nutjob who worries about what I'm wearing to pick the kids up.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 16:35

Iona I prefer sports leggings as they are more comfortable and thicker than highstreet leggings, and look cool too. Btw they are not Lycra, but cotton and spandex. Don't understand how my black sports leggings, with Nike arrow on ine side, or adidas stripes, look stupid 🤔 Nowt as queer as folk they say.

JakeBallardswife · 24/05/2017 16:36

I work from home, get up really early with DC's get them to school, walk the dog etc. Then tend to change before afternoon pick up. Gymwear is supercomfy and looks ok, but you can be dressed in 30 seconds. Love it. Its like the modern pyjamas!

Please re-read my post. The "unless" part.

Rufus27 · 24/05/2017 16:42

How do you know they don't exercise during the day? I put gym gear on in the morning because I exercise at home while DS naps. Shower and put on other clothes before he wakes. Keeps me sane.

YoloSwaggins · 24/05/2017 16:45

Because it's like PE kit for adults. Agree with @JakeBallardswife, it's like modern pyjamas.

MrsD79 · 24/05/2017 16:47

Tracksuit and trainers are just not acceptable for everyday wear.

PaulDacresFeministConscience · 24/05/2017 16:47

Kokusai as soon as I saw the thread title I thought of that video. Grin

Screwinthetuna · 24/05/2017 16:49

Comfort thing. Also looks good with 0 effort (depending on the figure, obv). Every time I'm in Scandinavia, it seems to be what 90% of women are wearing

BitOutOfPractice · 24/05/2017 16:52

I'm currently MNing in my activewear. I've been out at a meeting all day, in business clothes (did morning drop off in said businesswear) came home for a nap and changed into my gym clothes because I have a spin class at 6. I'll change into something comfy at the gym (after a shower obv). Is that OK?

usershitloadofnumbers · 24/05/2017 16:54

please do let us what is acceptable Hmm
I only wear tracksuit when I come out of the gym and I am cold, but I am assuming you mean sportswear in general?
