to wonder why these women wear gym clothes all the time

There are quite a few mums at my dc's primary who constantly wear lycra gym clothes. They drop off in them, pick up in them and generally seem to hang out in them all the time. From what I can see they don't actually do any exercise during the day so it puzzles me. Is it a comfort thing? I know it is none of my business and I don't know why I even care but I often wonder.

Tracksuit and trainers are just not acceptable for everyday wear

Hyacinth? Is that you?

MissCookiee · 24/05/2017 16:55

This post made me laugh, only because I'm one of those mums who wear gym clothes to do the school runs too however I do actually go to the gym. While the dc are at school. Now I'm thinking is that what people think of me? ConfusedBlush lol

usershitloadofnumbers · 24/05/2017 16:58

Now I'm thinking is that what people think of me?

don't worry, not people, just a couple of busybody mums who still have not told us what they think is suitable for the school run. Grin

SamoanSamosa · 24/05/2017 16:59

I wear it and I work out. I'm never at pick up in it though as I'm way too sweaty after. My sister though doesn't seem to sweat so doesn't feel the same need to shower or change until the evening.

TinselTwins · 24/05/2017 16:59

Gym wear packs up smaller into my work bag than "proper outfits" if I need to change before/after work.

Sometimes I'm on my way to the gym

Sometimes I just don't want to wear uncomfortable laydee clothes

meh meh meh - at least I'm not out in a onesie! gym clothes are real clothes

RunningjustasfastasIcan99 · 24/05/2017 17:01

I went to the supermarket in gym clothes after the gym. Got into a bit of agro in the carpark (he seemed to think it ok to drive the wrong way around a 1 way system) He said if I was going to wear gym clothes I should go to the gym. I am quite overweight. It was upsetting. Not sure how you know they haven't been to the gym??

ASDismynormality · 24/05/2017 17:02

I do because it's comfy.

It has done me no favours as as I've put of weight my clothes have stretched with me Blush

innurendo · 24/05/2017 17:03

Agreed. Next thing you know they'll be wearing hats without flowers on, it's all going to hell in a handcart.

I guess some mysteries are meant to go unsolved.

MissCookiee · 24/05/2017 17:05

I do pick ups in mine too. I don't sweat much at the gym anyway and I prefer showering in the evenings so I can relax after dc are in bed in my pjs. Plus it is comfy. Could be worse, could be doing the school run in your pjs 🙈😂

Orlandointhewilderness · 24/05/2017 17:17

I wear mine dropping off because I am actually on my way to running. It actually takes a fair bit of courage, I'm not exactly a supermodel and I really hope no one thinks it is because I'm posing!!

StrawberryMouse · 24/05/2017 17:19

I'm that mum when I'm on my way to running / cycling / gym straight after drop off. Grin

IfNot · 24/05/2017 17:26

I do go to the gym but don't really own any Active Wear. I wear old shorts or leggings and a T shirt. I'm a bit in awe of women who can apparently spend £££ on gym stuff!

SusanDelfino · 24/05/2017 17:34

I do the nursery drop off and pick up in gym gear! Because I drop the kids, drive to the gym, do my thing and then race straight back to pick up. There literally isn't a minute to spare between my class finishing and leaving for pick up so no time to change. I shower when I get home and have fed the DC lunch.

DeadGood · 24/05/2017 17:40

"The comfort argument doesn't really work for me, leggings and t shirts are comfy!"

Yes they are, but they make you look like shit.

Activewear looks more "smart" than loungewear. It looks like you are healthy and active, rather than someone who can't be bothered to get dressed.

I read an interview with Jools Oliver, I think, and she was talking about how she basically lives in exercise leggings.

Vintagegoth · 24/05/2017 18:09

It is when they do pick up in the same gear that makes me laugh. Am I supposed to believe that they did a run or went to the gym and did not shower or change? If I did that I would not smell good. My 36GG sports bra is an instrument of torture that tries to squeeze my boobs under my arms. Gym gear is not a good look on me. 😂

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 18:22

Iona I wear them when I am not exercising, what's the issue! They look smart, are comfy, so what. This is becoming ridiculous, like playground mentality from some, like you have the wrong brand trainers or the wrong top. Stupid, wear what is comfy for you.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 18:26

Don't be so silly yolo, absolutely absurd thinking! When I look at ladies wearing sports leggings, I think they look rather smart actually. Would you rather I wear see through high street leggings that show every bit of fat, rather than my nice sports leggings that actually do flatter me.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/05/2017 18:26

I wear mine at the weekend if I'm staying at home and not walking, comfy and looks pretty good if I have to nip put unexpectedly.

IfNot · 24/05/2017 18:30

They are a bit thrushy, those excercise trousers tho.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 18:33

Not really ifnot, no different to wearing leggings. If they are cotton than they should be fine.

sparechange · 24/05/2017 18:34

The comfort argument doesn't really work for me, leggings and t shirts are comfy!

Leggings and tshirts are for people who have given up on life (posted while wearing maternity leggings)
But there is a reason most of the sports brands employ actual fashion designers
Their clothes flatter - panels and patterns do wonders for thunder thighs and arses, and look great on slim legs
Well-cut waistbands are comfy AND flattering

Technical fabric top vs baby sick/food mess/sweat/whatever else you encounter daily will win hands down against cotton every time AND it won't run in the wash if it's a bright colour

MissCookiee · 24/05/2017 18:34

😂😂😂
Thrushy? As in they give you thrush?

Vagndidit · 24/05/2017 18:38

It's a fashion trend, isn't it? The last time I was in America, every tween, teen and soccer mum was head to toe in t-shirts, leggings or yoga pants. Athleisureific.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2017 18:39

Exactly sparechange, your not going to get that with a pair of £10 supermarket leggings. I love the stomach panel in mine, and the fabric is nice and thick and good quality. For the record, I don't have thrush Grin! My sports leggings do not cut through my stomach like normal leggings do, they sit nicely and make it look flatter.
