to wonder why these women wear gym clothes all the time

There are quite a few mums at my dc's primary who constantly wear lycra gym clothes. They drop off in them, pick up in them and generally seem to hang out in them all the time. From what I can see they don't actually do any exercise during the day so it puzzles me. Is it a comfort thing? I know it is none of my business and I don't know why I even care but I often wonder.

I'd rather see no leggings...what happened to the world that everyone walks around in leggings and hoodies? When did that become the norm? I just don't like leggings full-stop though. I don't think it's stylish to wear gym kit 24/7. What happened to pretty dresses sad

Pretty floral dresses make me shudder. You wouldn't see me wearing them dead (in fact I'd come to haunt anybody daring me to dress that way for my coffin). That said, I have no problems with others wearing them if they like it. I'll stick to my leggins, skinny jeans, hoodies and comfy lumberjack shirts. And I'm a petite size 6/XS/XXS so it's not like I've got something to hide. I'm just simply not the girly/matronly (see Oasis, Pamela Scott or Monsoon type of clothes) type.
There's one style that puts me off completely and that's the matronly types dressed in "naice" dresses which hug their size 16 bodies, with their round bellies fully in evidence, wrinkly decoltes, fake tan, lashings of make-up, heavy perfumes and either ironed out or carefully styled hair. They look like they were printed out as an identical series in a 3D printer, with no identity or personality to them.

Yes, heaven forbid women with size 16 bodies may have bellies IN EVIDENCE!!

I have no problem with that. I described the type of women overall as a package. And I also saw those women wrinkling their noses when they saw overweight women in gym gear, judging their taste. Always a hypocrisy.

Orlandointhewilderness, I have about 20 pairs of USA Pro 3/4 length leggings from Sports Direct.

They have loads of colours/designs, they're really cheap and can be washed a thousand times.

PossomInAPearTree · 25/05/2017 14:32

orlando. Try matalan. Nice gym leggings there, their size large is equivalent to an 18.

I'm pretty much in gym kit or old trousers for dog walking most days all day. Shudder at pretty dresses. But then I don't judge people who do want to wear dresses.

Sunnie1984 · 25/05/2017 14:42

Because I'm 12 weeks post partum and none of my clothes fit; because I usually go for a two hour walk after the school run; because I'm going to the gym at lunch and don't see the point in wearing additional sets of clothing.

Any of all of the above on any given day.

Aeroflotgirl · 25/05/2017 14:43

I am shocked about how some are just so shallow. Who cares what people wear, they are not walking about naked or in their underwear.

CruCru · 25/05/2017 14:51

@Orlandointhewilderness I like the Nike running leggings. They aren't cheap but they are comfortable.

Fair enough - I sort of think similar about people in all-black/sports clothes, but different strokes for different folks :)

Also, a dress or skirt can cover up all manner of legs/bellies, whereas leggings and a tight top kind of give everything away!

Currently up the school waiting for my DS. Wearing gym kit and proud 😊

Redhead17 · 25/05/2017 15:15

Sometimes I like to run back from school or a run straight after school and can't be arsed changing again.

It's comfy as hell

usershitloadofnumbers · 25/05/2017 15:27

I can't think of anything worst than wearing a dress with the kids to go to and from school. I couldn't care less about what other people do, and unless a mum wears a gorgeous outfit I don''t even notice them, but it's so much easier to be able to run, climb things, sit on the grass and play with them in trainers and gym stuff. You can buy cheap things anywhere from Primark, TK MAx, H&M etc.
It's comfy, it looks great, what's not to love.

Peanut14 · 25/05/2017 15:31

Don't know why it annoys you but they're comfy and is it not the same as the old days wearing a tracksuit all the time.

I didn't realise I had to wear appropriate attire such as a dress, jeans all the time!

Bettyspants · 25/05/2017 15:46

Can someone recommend leggings that really hold your tummy in??? Pleeeease

supermoon100 · 25/05/2017 16:22

I wear mine cos I do loads of exercise and am fit as a butchers dog. Would not catch me in high heels

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 25/05/2017 16:25

How do you know that they are not exercising at some point in the day?

Aeroflotgirl · 25/05/2017 16:42

I am not a skirt or a dress person, nothing worse than running after ds 5 on his bike and skirt getting in the way or flying up, no thank you. Don't get me started on those vile floral dresses. What the ones that were fashionable over 20 years ago!

Liketoshop · 25/05/2017 17:46

It is definitely about giving the impression you've come from gym or exercise class!

mumto2two · 25/05/2017 17:50

I also wear comfy gym wear..but only when I go for a morning run or round the house. It has also puzzled me why it's become so popular for day to day wear. But I guess there are no rules!

usershitloadofnumbers · 25/05/2017 17:51

nope, just you. I couldn't care less what people think about my outfit Grin

BunsyGirl · 25/05/2017 18:02

It's to wind the working mums up! Wink

MrsMachin · 25/05/2017 18:05

I either wear a trouser suit or skirt suit to work everyday (usually coupled with heels) and the only expression I look at the mums in gym gear with is envy - especially at 8 in the morning!

MrsMachin · 25/05/2017 18:06

Bunsy precisely! Grin

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/05/2017 18:28

I'm one of these I'm afraid. I exercise straight after the school run...generally followed by the usual daily chores so unless I specifically need to change, I'll stay in my kit until early evening and then shower. Utterly revolting but makes perfect sense to me!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/05/2017 18:47

Lots of people saying "I couldn't care less what anyone else wears" closely followed by derogatory comments about women wearing skirts / heels / dresses. Seems you do care if it's different from what you choose to wear!
